Do you think you'll ever buy another handgun caliber? Me, I think I'll have a 9mm again sometime down the line. .40 interests me somewhat.

Probably. It will depend on finding a good deal. If I do find a good deal, then the caliber I would be looking for would be .45 ACP. I do not find .40 S&W particularly interesting. I find 10mm somewhat interesting, but not interesting enough to really look into any pistol chambered in it. If we were to bring revolvers into the mix, then I would like something in .357 Magnum.

Congrats on the 10/22. I can't remember: Did you have the standard 10/22?

I did not.

How about used handguns? I ask because you are more likely to find caliber specific "deals" in private sales.

Anywho, I forgot about the .357 Magnum. I sort of consider those the superior caliber, except they are almost exclusive to revolvers, and while I'd love to have something like a S&W revolver, I like high-capacity a lot. :P

If I ever find a steal on a .40, or 10mm, I think I could see myself with those. If money was no object, I'd love to have a really shiny S&W like this:

No worries. You can send it to me, and I can take the pictures for you, but you may *ahem* not see it back for many months(i.e. ever). :P

The Ruger 10/22 Takedown that I ordered arrived today and I picked it up today. Very neat little rifle. I am looking forward to shooting it. I guess this means I need to add some pictures of it and the shotgun I picked up on Saturday.

Are you thinking of putting a scope on it?

I thought about the takedown model as well as I use my .22 for squirrel primarily. The farthest recorded shot I have (based off of Google Earth and a pace count) was just under 100 yards so accuracy is sort of important especially due to how close the houses are around me (I no longer use the .22 at my house, but the Stoeger ATAC). I was worried most that every time I actually take it apart, the scope would be off...

@Swagger897 Not really sure what I am going to do optics wise. I have thought about picking up a Bushnell TRS-25 or a Primary Arms Red Dot, but I have also thought something with magnification would be nice too. I could also look into a set of Tech Sights. So I really do not have a clue what I am going to do.

The 10/22 Takedown has an adjustment knob for barrel lock up. Once that is properly adjusted, from what I understand, the rifle should return to zero. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll have to look up the Bushnell scope I have. It is also a magnification scope and is really clear. My dad purchased the scope however so it doesn't have mil-dots like I would prefer it, but the cross-hairs are rectangles which point into triangles. Basically the point where there is an angle is where 100 yards is sighted in at whatever the 1/2 point on the mag scale, but that is just something I learned from it, everyone knows their stuff like the back of their hands...

I did have to put a rail on it but it looks pretty good as it's really shallow. The scope is set for life on it, as i can't tell you what type of concoction I created with lock-tight to make it never come off (or come loose for that matter).

I am small build so I like the scope as far back and as low as possible. Rifles with check rests like my 7400 .270 I don't really like.

My next rifle to be scoped is my Mosin... Even after looking at all the Web sites in the world on the Internet, I have no idea where mine was made. I'll probably make it a PE option, as I am a lefty. I'll also make sure that if I don't like the old PE scope, I can still put a new one on with mill dots.... got way off topic..

Need some opinions on this...

I know when it comes to scopes, you get what you pay for. But can somebody give me an honest non-condescending opinion on just how bad will this scope be?

I'm starting to look for scopes to mount on a Mosin 91/30 project I'm working on.
I have been thinking for a while to mount a scope on mine.
Is yours sporterized?

In progress. I have an Arch Angel stock on it and a Rock Solid Industries bent bolt body on it right now. I'll be ordering a Rock Solid Industries scope mount on it in the next week or so.

Few other things I'm considering is a Timney Trigger and getting the end of the barrel tapped for a compensator. The Trigger on my Mosin feels pretty good as it is, and I'm undecided if I want to trust the cheap compensators that lock onto the front sight lug.

ah...
I don't think I'll ever sporterize mine, as I do somewhat like the look of it. It's an 1929 Hex model (I can't tell you the factory as I have searched and searched and have not seen similar markings..) so I think I'll keep it in the wood.

I am also a lefty so the PU scope wont do and I'm not sure if I could see clear enough with a PE scope, although I desperately want one.
Sorry but I can't help you on the scope though...

I actually have two. I have one from 1936, and another one from 1944. The one from 1944 was at one point a PU sniper model, but the scope mount holes were filled in. I'm sporterizing the 1944 one, the 1936 one is in much better condition. I've been thinking about getting a third one with a hex receiver and doing the modifications to that one though. As of now I haven't done any modification that isn't reversible.

Cool. I overpaid for mine by about 65-75 depending on how you rate condition, but I enjoy it very much. I was a bit worried about the recoil after reading some of the jokes and whatnot on forums (since I'm a super small build), but i have phased it out since.

If anyone wants to tell me what these markings mean, please do:

Nice! Some great news for California!

Breaking News: 9th Circuit Court denies appeal, California Gun Rights Restored

You may remember that the 9th Circuit Court struck down the “good cause” provision for concealed carry in the County of San Diego. The ruling went to appeal, thanks to The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Presidential heartthrob Attorney General Kamala D. Harris. The two parties attempted to weigh-in on the side of – you guessed it – reversing the ruling, so that statists like San Diego Sheriff William Gore could continue to deny Americans their natural, civil and Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. [Click here for Aaron J. Bailey most excellent analysis of the appeal.] The Court has ruled that Brady’s and Harris’ interest in Peruta came too late in the game. [Click here for the Court's decision.] In the Court’s words . . .

The panel denied motions to intervene, which were filed after the panel’s opinion and judgment holding that a responsible, law-abiding citizen has a right under the Second Amendment to carry a firearm in public for self-defense.
TTAG tipster dwb breaks it down for us . . .

Harris (“Pretty please, may I join the case?”)- DENIED
Brady (“Blood in the Streets!”)- DENIED

Ever Strike
Peruta is settled law in 9th. There is no one to appeal. If you live in CA, you may now do a victory dance and exercise your natural civil rights in CA. “Self defense” must be recognized as a good cause for a carry permit. Sheriffs are going to have to start abiding by Peruta if they are not already.
It also means it’s now extremely likely that the Supreme Court will take up a “may issue” carry case, because the 9th is now in direct conflict with other decisions. There are two other cases – including Baker (HI may-issue) – pending in the 9th Circuit which depend on Peruta. Probably one of those gets appealed (likely, Baker).

So my father and I were handed down my grandfathers Savage Model 24. It has been a nightmare to identify, even though it has the name of it right on the side of the frame. We are more considered of the age of it, and that is the current issue.

Normally if there are no exterior markings on a gun it is generally behind the buttplate, which this one does have some markings. However with the Savage 24, the information on the Internet is a bit confusing for the two of us to digest. Some sites tell us that the letter of the date is circled, some tell us it's an oval, and some don't have much of anything.

So far on the back of the butt, I have a B, H, and N. I believe the N is the correct alpha code for the date of production (1962) and have looked up that B stands for laminate stock (which I highly doubt as it seems very much a one piece stock) and H for hinge (which they all do) so these markings have me a bit weary of them.

I'll get a picture up in a few but I am clueless on the production date..

I don't know anything(what else's new....), but to me at least, circle & oval would be pretty much same thing in this case.

I wonder if they'd be able to help from this Q&A feature on the Savage site? I've used one, maybe on Ruger site before & they were helpful. If you don't see the answer to your question, you could submit your own question. I didn't see it from a quick glance.

Yeah I looked at some of the posts people were putting up on other forums and said they couldn't get an answer because Savage themselves don't really know how they kept track of their guns...

Ah. Sometimes, you have to find the right person(in the organization), but that's easier said than done.

I finally got around to taking pictures of both of the above. Please excuse my phone's potato quality camera.

On an unrelated note to the pictures, I ordered an Aimpoint Comp ML3 today because good deal.

Is it a red dot? Any magnification?

Congrats on the guns. I especially love the takedown 10/22. What a sweet .22 rifle. 👍

Oh my. The my wallet is hovering around an SKS. I'm gonna head over to my buddies house to see if I can test out his sometime... They're Russian so they carry only Russian guns, ya know.

Since it's so cheap and reliable, it may be my first and only gun purchase, though I do want to look into some pistols for the future. We shall see.
