Is the FNS9C the only gun that's completely ambidextrous all the time? I may finally get one now that they released the compact. It's important to me that I can use the gun with either hand at any time without having to change anything.

I'm not sure, but I know the FNS series is ambidextrous all the time. Not just reversible controls, but one set of controls for each side.

I get the impression this gun was designed specifically for department-wide adoption for LEO and military.

Today .22lr at 110 yds. Sadly my other groups were all ruined by single flyers. :indiff:

That is really impressive. Are you, like, gonna be able to do a 1-inch smiley face on a paper pretty soon? :D

I went to the range today. Put another 100 rounds through the HK VP9 and Ruger 10/22 Takedown. However, this time the Ruger had the Bushnell TRS-25 on top of it. It made accurate fire easier, as I was not struggling to pick up the red dot.

On a different note, I may have inadvertently discovered an outdoor range to shoot at. I am thinking about scouting the thing out over the weekend.

@Brett - Any luck with the range? I wish I could go soon, but I'm trying to get into fishing(haven't fished since I was still a kid!).

I did pick this up today:

ESS Rollbar

I know, unshaven like a bum. lol It's supposed to be super tough & features replaceable lenses. What kind of shooting glasses do you guys use?

Drove out to check it out and got out there with barely any sunlight left. It looks okay and I may visit it in the coming weeks. If it were not set to be below freezing and snow possible, then I might go today and actually do some shooting.

The letter on your hat is backwards. :boggled:  There is nothing wrong with being unshaven. There are plenty of us GTPers that are unshaven. Plus, I would be a hypocrite for saying anything, as I have not been clean shaven since like Christmas or something.

Couple more shooting glasses I used before the ESS Rollbar:

Radians CS3(actually safety glasses)

Remington T72

Both really comfortable glasses. I tried ESS Crossbow a month or two ago, but it wasn't compatible with my low nose bridge. That thing had paper-thin temples, so it helped the muffs seal real well & I was very disappointed I couldn't make it work.

Below freezing? Snow? It's been like high 60 here. You make it sound like it's February or something.

It's called bathroom mirror!

It's been only about couple of weeks for me. :P

I use my bio lab glasses.

I want to get some Oakley Tombstones, but not just for shooting. They look great.

I guess they do look pretty similar to shooting glasses. :D

Maybe it was discontinued? I googled it & while they do look nice, I couldn't even get current going rate.

Nice link. 👍 I like the one below called "Ultrablend", but looks like that one isn't rated for military(not that I need it to be. lol). I'm glad Oakley's getting into the game, but $180 is way out of my price range anyway. ESS Rollbar I just got, it generally retail for around $125, but I got mine for $75(shipped). I don't think I could pay anymore than that for shooting glasses right now.

I suggest looking into the ESS Crossbow I mentioned earlier, @Omnis. Great looking pair, similar design & stops a .22 short!

Mine was on sale for $25(shipped) from Botach(it's like $50 now). It was the pair I had to return.

Switched my polymer MBUS out for the new MBUS Pro LR model and changed to XTM rail panels. Not really a fan of the XT panels, not as round. Now the polymer MBUS is on the pistol.

My first experience with the Pro versions of the Magpul MBUS, very sleek, low profile when folded. They don't pop up on their own like the polymer version and I think leaving that mechanism out lets the sight footprint be much smaller. I'm definitely going to get a full set for the pistol. The LR is the only range adjustable backup iron sight that I'm aware of that still has the fold down aperture to have the bigger sight opening available for closer quarters and low light usage. Its adjustable 200-600m in 50m increments.

Haven't shot it with this sight or the Eotech yet, but based off previous sight positions I had moved the Eotech reticle where it should be, then moved the LR to match that alignment. The second dot on the Eotech is for 500yds, and with the LR set to 500yds the second dot sits at the top of the front sight post like it should.

That's awesome. I agree the oakleys are really expensive. I just like that it's a straight shield with not so much plastic. But the sides do worry me w/ peripheral vision, etc.

The ESS cross suppresors interest me, for sure.

@Eric. - How do you like ZQI ammo? I've shot only few, but at $9.99 a box for 7.62x51, I've been stocking them up. I used to buy steel case ammo for plinking, but can't beat brass ammo for this low price.

P.S. It's little tight, but my MBUS do barely clear the scope. I'm happy it came with the Bushmaster MOE for free, but adjustment for distance would be nice.

I think most brand name eye protection has the peripherals covered. I usually test them out by driving while wearing them. Any obstruction in view you notice right away. I've yet to test the Rollbar, but even with the thick frame, field of view seem to be excellent.

But that's because you're asian. ;)

When I look over my shoulder, I see out of the lens frame. So when I wear those thick-style glasses like the rollbar or those oakley trashcans, all I get is black plastic blocking my vision.

I'm not going to spend a bunch of money on glasses and not use them, or use them only for shooting. That'd be silly.

I've had sunglasses like that, but most lenses seems to be well designed(curved) that I can still see close to 180 degrees in the front. I'm not sure what to think of your Asian statement, though that would explain the court awareness I used to have playing basketball, also obvious superiority in horsing around at work. :P

I haven't used any of the ZQI. I've bought 1200rds of 5.56 in the last week in light of any incoming ban. 30rds of SS109 for $9.97 can't be beat so its worth it to buy any you can find. People seem to really like it.

I had to look up SS109. Good for you dude. 👍 I hope they don't come thru with another useless ban, but either way, it's nice to have some ammo stocked up for shooting anyway!

WHAT IS THIS

What is your pathetic excuse for those missing scope mount screws, son? Do you want those raging zombie hordes to overrun our position because your goddamn scope is rotating in its mount under recoil completely screwing up your aim?
You better install it correctly or I'll push that scope so deep into your eye socket you'll never have to worry about those silly mount screws again!!! / drill instructor voice

No seriously, what has happened with the screws! A .308 needs a good tight mount! It reminds me of an old saying:

If a beam taketh eight nails to place, then eight shalt it be. If thou useth seven, then be thou a cheap and careless fool. If thou useth nine, then be thou a wastrel with no pride.

:P ;) ;)

I was wondering if anybody would catch that. Great eye, Michael.👍

Pic was taken long time ago, right after I put the thing together to if the scope would clear(it did, as you see). Don't worry, they were properly mounted soon after that pic was taken. :D

@Omnis - I tried driving while wearing Rollbar & it does obstruct the side view a little bit. Damn.

Just in time, too. Of the SS109 and M855 (both are the steel tip "penetrator" round proposed to be banned) I paid an average of 37 cents per round (total of 840rds). Now I see even PSA charging almost 60 cents per. Supply and demand I guess, and I'm sure I'm a small part of the problem going around buying all I could get my hands on the night this was talked about...Oh well, I still justify it that apart from one 150rd box, all of the ammo has been really cheap.

Anyway, has anyone participated in an Appleseed Project shoot? I'm signed up for one on April 18-19th.

http://www.appleseedinfo.org/

Going to use the AR, unsure about keeping the Eotech on for it or not. Might see what their opinion is, I know they kinda preach a back to basics approach to marksmanship but its really more precise than iron sights without being cheaty and having magnification.

Man... just when I think I'm ready to make a gun purchase, Beretta has to go and make this:

2ePqTw4.jpg

Their new APX striker-fired pistol for the Army's new handgun competition. Now they have three of their guns in the running... I think they really want that contract.

Anyway, this one looks really cool. Wonder how it handles. Wonder how long it'll take for them to make a compact.

I shouldn't have doubted you! I apologize for my rudeness, but I suffer from scope-mount-OCD.

Dat bore axis.
Indeed. Though I still think the Steyr A1's is even lower.

So, just wondering, is there still a 22lr shortage in the US? I'm asking because the storage rooms of my guns stores are so filled with cheaply priced US made 22 ammo the're nearly exploding. I just bought 800 rounds of CCI 22lr sub sonic. :dopey:

I don't want to sound patriotic, but the people I know who own these are very happy. Still, much to my surprise (ha ha) its completely and utterly overshadowed by the Glock.

Oh, I think I failed at trying not to sound patriotic.

Good news about the APX: It's modular (durr), so you just have to buy one gun which comes as a serialized chassis plus everything else to make it the full-sized service pistol. However, that means that we could see subcompact lowers, rails, barrels, and magazines in the future.

Aww, come on now. I thought that was the funniest post of the week! :D:tup:

  :(

Last time I saw some .22 was probably month or two ago. I haven't seen a full brick(500 rounds+) on store shelves in probably something like 2 years or more. I'm convinced manufacturers don't sell full bricks anymore. If I see a package of 50 rounds, a 100, maybe 325, they are gone in a day & a half or less. Though with the amount of shooting I do(very little), I probably still have .50 cal ammo can full of .22's, then some on hand. :dopey:

I have not really been looking too hard for ammunition over the past however many months because I had already accumulated what I felt was a good enough amount. However, when I have been in a store, mostly Academy, that sells ammunition, I would be sure to check out the ammunition section and they have rarely had any .22LR. If they did, then I tended to buy whatever the limit was (Academy was two boxes on .22LR, no limit on anything else). So when I have looked, stock has been low. A couple friends of mine went to an auction over the weekend and the prices .22LR ammuntion was going for was absolutely stupid.

On the topic of .22LR, but not on supply, I did discover I had two 325 round boxes that I forgotten I had bought a few weeks ago when I went shooting. That was a nice surprise.

Kinda similar with me, @Brett I don't go out looking for them, but anytime I'm at Walmart, or other shops that carry ammunition, I always look. Some info fly around how you want to check certain shops on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, but I don't bother doing that.

One store I check the most(2, 3 times a week) is the new Walmart by my work. Like with your auction price story, what's scary is that this Walmart has "one box" limit on .22's. When they actually do get a case of .22's, regardless of brand, or quantity size, they are almost always gone in a day. Crazy bad after 2 years or more of this crap. I should be just glad that we no longer have to worry about centerfire calibers.
