Real Guns

It is that weird 9 lug bolt design, it seems make them real accurate. It also leads to the bolt handle snapping off. Mine was TIG welded back in place by a bench rest shooter that had done it before. The 30-30s were really popular with people hunting in the close brush. I would like to find a .308 carbine, I have the 22 inch barrel.

Just bought a Ruger LCR in .357 today. The .357 kicked quite hard in such a small gun but it's nothing uncontrollable.

Shot real guns for the first time with my family and friends, a 1911, followed by a S&W compact and full size 9mm, a full size .40, a Sig Sauer .40, and a Glock .40.

Apparently, it's a rare sight to see a person shoot right-handed while aim with your dominant eye being left.

I have shot a snub nose S&W in .357. The kick is hard, but not uncontrollable. It was a bit uncomfortable.

Today I shot the most accurate group in my life The group measures 7 millimeters from hole (center) to hole. Shot my own hand loads with a 240 grain SMK.(The group is high because is sighted in for 150, not 100)

300 Winchester Magnum 5 Shots at 100 meters, 240 SMK @ 2600 fps.

Very nice group.

It less rare than people think. I did the same, but have been trying to switch to my right eye being my dominate eye.

Handguns, I use both eyes, or just the right.

I use both eyes shooting handguns. Trying to make the switch to right eye dominance has been an experience (still a work in progress).

My hand is just now starting to not feel sore after shooting 45 .357s (plus 10-15 .38s) on Saturday evening. Definitely not a range gun but I think it will work out well should I ever need to use it for self defense.

Before I actually got into guns, I think I was aiming with my right eye? I can't remember where I read or heard about aiming using both eyes(focusing on front sight). I think I'll look that up later.

And I figured as much. Like you said though, for concealed carry, both the caliber & size has its advantages. 👍

Bought the rest of the parts to complete my AR lower. Had to piece a build kit together myself since Palmetto State Armory's pre-packaged kits are all sold out. Ended up being about $30 more expensive, but I don't want for it to be in stock.

Now I need to decide if I want to buy the upper pre-assembled, or if I want to try to build it on my own. Originally I was going to buy it pre-assembled, but I'm starting to think about just building it myself.

I think I've fallen in love with the Walther PPK/S in .380, and that has nothing to do with the Bond movies (which I don't like)
A friend let me shoot his a while ago, and I think its all a handgun should be. Small and compact, feels solid, reliable, smooth lines and no sharp edges, decently accurate and really nice looking. And it points so good in my hands it feels like its a part of me. While in he world of calibers bigger is always better, .380 is a reasonable caliber in that size package.

Ironically I'm a big guy but I dislike big pistols, I find a big pistol defeats its purpose.

Maybe I'll get a dual-tone PPK/S in the future.

Wouldn't mind one myself as well. There are couple other pistols in line for me to get before one though. Namely a Beretta 92 (FS or G), and a revolver (357mag or 44mag).

I don't think I would use a PPK as my carry gun, already considering upgrading my Glock 42 to something bigger like a 26.

I would not use a PPK as a carry gun, but I do want to own one. I would rather get something chambered in 9mm.

The .380 is a 9mm. :sly:
The ballistic difference between a 9x19 and a .380 ACP out of a short barrel is rather insignificant, I've seen gel tests where the rounds performed very similar with the only exception being the .380 penetrating 2 inches less in the gel. They all made it past 12 inches.

Coming from long-gun world the differences between 9x19, .45, .40 and .380, 9mm Mak seem all all extremely small.

How are revolvers, if anyone fired one?
I've only shot around 75 rounds through mine but I like it a lot. If you're wanting something that is high capacity or fast reloading than you'd want a semi auto.

I've shot a Ruger revolver in .454, a 4'' S&W in 500S&W and a S&W 686 in .357. Powerful for sure, and accurate too, but not my cup of tea. I find revolvers overly bulky and awkward, but thats just a personal opinion, revolvers are still highly popular firearms.

Though there is one revolver I've always wanted to own for historical reasons, and because it just plain cool. The S&W Schofield top-break action in 45 colt. (Replica from Uberti. Its plain cool and very beautiful.

I've always been a fan of S&W revolvers. I would love to own one someday. Only revolver I've ever shot was a GP100(Ruger), .357. Cool gun.

I like the PPK, too. Not as much as the P38, but love classic Walthers.

I like G26 a lot. I've never conceal carried, but it seems to be like a sweet compromise in size & capacity. With the gun being Glock, its price point, and also the reputation of the 26 itself(I've never heard jamming or failing, which says a ton), it would be hard to beat I think.

I prefer revolvers over self-shuckers, just due to functional reliability. Yeah you only have 6 rounds, real life gunfights you will only fire twice. Well that is what the statistics say. I have ran hundreds of rounds through my old Ruger Security-six without a failure, most of them my hand loads. It isn't something you can hide on your person easily with a 6" barrel. But you want to be a long ways from me to feel comfortable if I'm lobbing lead in your general area. I have had a few Ruger Super blackhawks. For pure hunting handgun they are hard to beat. Stainless steel 8" barrel, it will take down about anything you want to hunt. For things that might hunt you back you might consider something bigger. 44 mag has taken all the big 5 out, & the nastiest bear in North America. My next hand gun purchase will be a single action revolver, most likely in 44 mag. I have brass, & lots of cast bullets from old wheel weights. They will impact things with enough energy to either kill it or make it wish it was dead. I have lighter bullets that can be pushed faster, & leave huge exit wounds.
45 colt hand loads in a strong modern hand guns can be even nastier. I would suggest a custom 5 round cylinder before really cranking on the 45 though.
I would like to add don't try to run hot hand loads through a Walther .380, they are rather dainty little things. If you want to push the limits on a .380 I would search for a Colt .380 Govt. model in stainless. In close quarters that little beast with a 90 grain HP @ 1300+ FPS will serve you well. You only have 7 rounds in the mag, but that should be plenty.

New idiocy from Europe. The EU parliament wants to press for a Europe-wide ban for semiautomatic rifles and anything that resembles an assault-rifle (YUCK) because of the recent Terror attacks in France and Germany. What has legal gun ownership to do with Terror attacks? Nobody knows! But the EU is, as always drawing illogical conclusions and makes laws from gut feelings.

Those terror attacks where committed by terrorists with fully automatic AK 47's and grenades, of which both very illegal items.
Are they thinking before making a terror attack terrorists go to a local gun store, do all the paperwork, wait 5 days and then go on a killing spree with semi automatic rifles and shotguns? All that hassle if you get provided with far more effective illegal weaponry from your local terrorist cell?

The idiocy and incompetence of the European democracy knows no bounds.

Hey, I know a joke!

Achmed: Hey Abdallah, what do you think the Europeans gonna do after the terror attack?
Abdallah: What? What terror attack? That wasn't us...
Achmed: Doesn't matter, what do you think they're gonna do now?
Abdallah: Erm, they're gonna arm themselves and hunt us for what we supposedly did..?
Achmed holding his belly laughing: wrong, they're going to disarm our potential victims!
*Both rolling in the sand laughing their butts off*

It's pretty much the same thing here.

That & gun free zones. I can't help but to wonder what impressive education these government officials have, and the salary they make. "We'll put a sign outside that reads 'no firearms allowed', mission accomplished". They'll probably ban suicides & bombs next.

Though I suspect that they're not dumb at all, there is the saying ''let no panic go to waste'', I suspect they know exactly what they're doing and use the terror attacks to push through some very radical laws in the name of ''safety'' which would never fly in normal times - solely for their own benefits of course.

Its funny how quickly they came up with that laws, I mean a couple days after the terror attacks? They already had it all written down laying in some drawer ready to go into action when something bad happens.

I don't want to sound like some crazy conspiracy maniac but sometimes I think they all ''let it happen'' because the current situation makes radical changes much much easier. Its very similar in the US.

Dark times are ahead for all of us.

I saw this somewhere online the other day.

Remington's new subcompact carry pistol RM380. I can already tell that some of you are rolling your eyeballs. Gun may be okay, or great even. Does it matter? I wouldn't touch Remington handgun, not anytime soon.

No, I think you are right. While I'm still of the impression that many of them are absolute dummies whoring themselves for whatever political capital, etc., there exist brains behind the agenda.

I don't want to believe that any government would let tragedies take place just to push gun-ban, but at the same time, I have zero doubt that they are always on standby to take advantage of whenever public sentiments may shift in their favor.

6 rounds + 1 in the tube, DAO with an 8 to 9 lb trigger pull, & a 2.9" barrel. It fits a purpose, I just don't think I can find a purpose for it. If you are a LEO looking for something to shove in an ankle holster for "just in case", maybe. I don't like DAO pistols even though I have some. Not something to add to my wish list...

My mom has been looking for one of these with the other sights but in .38 special.... Almost impossible to find..

Anyways, I've got one of these. A Stoeger ATAC suppressed air rifle, used mostly in the neighborhood to control our squirrel and chipmunk population (which has exploded again).

The gun has so much recoil for an air rifle, that I've just gone through my second scope. The first element closest to the eye constantly comes loose and renders the scope useless. Now I await my third replacement scope, and I think I'll soon be purchasing another one to test out how much longer it lasts.

It's quite an accurate gun, but you have to buy the crossman pointed pellets, sometimes hard to find in Walmart. So far they're the most accurate that I've tested, at reasonable prices. Everything else falls straight through the barrel, or is inaccurate every shot.

And other news, I might get into reloading, specifically for my K98 and Mosin....

I think I've fallen in love with the Walther PPK/S in .380, and that has nothing to do with the Bond movies (which I don't like)

Other sights? I thought they only had one type of sight, exception being the older ones that didn't have the white paint on the front sights.
