Yeah, if I could afford it, I think the common thing to do is get a Trijicon? Of course, you are talking about the entry level models going for around $1,000. My idea with the .308 EOTech was to get a red dot, then when I could afford it, get a magnifier? Problem is, I have zero idea how practical, or accurate the combination of red dot+magnifier is.

Absolutely true about how useless red dot will be at longer range, or how it would defeat attributes of a 7.62x51/.308. I'm only considering it, because I never shoot past 50 yards. :P

Currently I have Redfield Revenge on my rifle with 2-7x magnification.

Not sure about Oregon laws but, here in Misery with the 10 round clips I have I can use my .308 for deer hunting, so having a decent scope on it is practical. Most of the time open sights would work fine, & the scope is not needed. For a long time I used a SKS as my brush rifle, small & quick to pick up your target. I got rid of my 30-30 as the SKS seemed to fill that niche better.
I'd leave the scope on your rifle, & leave the red dot at the store. 2-7X is a nice range for a .308.

Yeah, if we were talking 'practical', 2-7x makes sense, and red dot doesn't make any. I discovered red dot sights when Call of Duty 4 came out looong time ago, and had a crush on it since. :P I do wish I had a AR15 to put the thing on, but I don't, hence this EOTech XR308 idea. You are right that I should just leave the scope on. :D

I think Oregon law for capacity when hunting is five.

That is when you get a 10 round clip & run a couple screws up through the bottom so it can only hold 4 rounds. 4 in the clip & 1 in the tube, you're golden. Hunting season is over, remove the screws.

I see. I thought maybe you had to use those magazines that sit flush inside the well.

Yay, I got the results of the proof house which tested my handloaded ammo 8x57 Mauser for my K98k.
The awesome thing is the rounds are very consistent, from 3 rounds the biggest variation in velocity is about 6 feet per seconds - thats about 0.064% deviation in velocity if I'm, not mistaken.
The rounds do exactly 2500 feet per second with a 195 grain soft point.

Its German but you get the idea, Pressure - BAR, velocity meters per second, length in millimeter.

So you just sent them 3 rounds and they have some fun?

Well, I would check with the State Conservation Dept. on their view of limiting magazine size. The 10 round magazines I use don't protrude from the magazine well much. That is the reason I search them out, my darling daughter gave me money for 10 round magazines for Christmas. Those long magazines are awful when you are shooting from the bench. I have 2 of the 20 round magazines & I never bother carrying them to the range.

Shot my shotgun at the range today, at 50 meters with shotgun slugs. It was fun, but not fun enough so I brought it to the 100 meters range. Rested it on a sandbag, guesstimated the bullet drop and fired it. Needless to say 3'' slugs shot from the bench out of a 6.3 lbs shotgun kick.
Hit low but near center. Reloaded, aimed even higher, scratched the bullseye!
Sadly I ran out of slugs and daylight and after 30 slugs from the bench headache started to set in. :scared:

(oval holes because of the wad)

Get that variable IOR Valdada scope

Because you are a consumer whore
Where do you get that idea? I mean I am, but I think I hide it fairly well! Nice to see you, stranger. Good of you to stop by, even if it's just like this!

You can sleep soundly knowing that I'm always watching even if I'm not posting
You are the second person to make similar statement to me today(also in hot wheels thread lol).
Ironically I haven't done any shooting in Texas since I moved here last spring and I've tried to stay away from the gun shop and websites while I'm getting my savings back together.
I was wondering about that. I haven't shot since my USP blew up. I had couple days off week ago, I was going shooting, but it's an outdoor range, and they forecasted possible thunderstorm.

P.S. Good luck saving money. I've been trying, too. :P

@a6m5 I guess I have one thing to share that I forgot to post a few months back. My old FFL back in Maryland got a good deal on some Colts and hooked me up with this one for the distributor price and the cost of shipping it to my local FFL.

.38 Super just for something different.
I think I've heard of .38 Super, maybe once or twice. I Wiki'd it & sounds really cool. đź‘Ť

Very popular round for competition shooting, also very expensive and why many who compete collect the brass and reload them after every match. Higher velocity round than the 9mm (basically on steroids) but good for the purpose intended.

A bit surprised to see one on here, which is why I liked it cause it's pretty cool and not a usual sort of thing people have lying around unless for collection or competition or both, definitely not a gun or round I'd use as self/home defense.

The IOR is great, but it suffers from the same problems as all the other 1x-4/6/8's battle scopes, and thats the small lense. On overcast days or at dusk / dawn those tiny lenses are bad at gathering enough light and at higher magnifications it looks like looking through a dark tunnel. If they made this scope with a 32 or 36mm lense that would be awesome.

I just got my double barrel muzzle loader rifle I mentioned a few pages ago.

Man, when I ordered it I did not expect to get such a behemoth, I expected a rifle that feels and handles like a beefy double barrel shotgun, but this thing is at a whole 'nother level.
That thing weights 12.5 lbs, the barrels are so thick you could use them as a medieval mace and in dimension its a huge step above any double barrel 12 gauge shotgun.
If you take it in our hands your immediately realize its not a pretty wall hanger, its meant for serious business - which is hunting the largest dangerous game.

Nuff said, pics!

It makes my 12 gauge side by side look like a kid. The picture does not do its size justice.

Beefy. I'd pay not to have to shoot that. I know, wimp.
Hey its a muzzle loader! I could load it with so little powder you'd have to check the bore to make sure the projectile has left the barrel. But I could also load to apocalyptic bone breaking levels.

Are you in for a surprise? :sly:

Shot my new .72 muzzle loader double rifle today. Wow, just..wow. :dopey:
The barrels are so well regulated that they shoot pretty much one hole, and with 120 grains of black powder you get a huge column of smoke, it belches fire and sounds like a ship cannon with a deep thunder that rattles your bones.
Recoil (and energy) is comparable to that of a hot 12 gauge 3'' magnum slug, stout but controllable.

I shot a stack of 4 wet catalogs to see what it does to wet paper ( its about 1/3 denser than flesh), it is more devastating than any shotgun slug I have ever fired at that test medium.
I have no doubt this rifle is capable of stopping the biggest and meanest charging animals on this planet.
