Scope came. It's HUGE. The eye relief isn't great but on the rifle it should be nice. Other than that, the optical quality is amazing and the reticle (the reason I got it, really) is awesome. It's huge though. Like the size of my keyboard.

Been a while since I've posted. Due to not having anywhere to shoot I haven't really been too focused on my rifles lately, however a friend offered to trade me an AK for my SKS, so I couldn't turn it down.

I wanted to ask here for recommendations on two things before I bought them. One, does anybody know where I can get these magazines? I found them on 'cheaper than dirt' for between $16-$30, just curious if anybody knows of any better deals. I'd like the metal ones, not a fan of the plastic ones.

And also curious on if there's a better price on 7.62x54R TulAmmo on the same site for I believe $220 for 500 rounds.

Also AKs shoot 7.62x39. You may know that already but I'd hate for you to buy 7.62x54 and try to use it in the AK

I used to shop for Tula at Walmart. Generally seems to be reasonably priced on ammo. I've never shot one, but I've always liked AK's(have shot SKS). Congrats on a sweet rifle. If I had one, I'd buy both polymer & metal magazines.

I buy mags from Botach, but I don't see any AK mags on there. Is this like Israeli AK though? sorry, I got distracted lol

Great thank you 👍

But yea I have a Nagant I'm looking to get some rounds for. I bought some bulk 7.62x39 for the SKS I still have, but the 54R supply is running low.

That's always where I buy it, but they don't have the 500 round bulk boxes. I haven't priced it out but buying in bulk seems to be the best route usually.

Two of the magazines I have are polymer and they just seem kinda cheap. Maybe it's the brand though. I'd prefer the metal just going by what I have.

Just bought a UTG super duty bipod. I only have experience with Harris so I wonder how tough it is going to be. Not that it matters much though, I won't drag it through the jungle or anything, I'm not Tom Berenger . :D

Dudes, hold onto the nearest lamp post or door frame, the Matrix is about to glitch hard. I just got a call from my gun dealer and they said my rifle has just arrived, the delivery time of 12 weeks was cut short to 3 weeks. Now if that ain't a sign that the world is coming to a screeching halt tonight then I don't know.

And plunder your bank accounts too, you don't want to go all squeaky-clean debt-less. (Though I doubt that any of us is in danger of suffering that fate)

So I got those ammo bags from my Federal Premium rebate. They're a huge disappointment. Basically useless bags. The geometry is garbage. I'm not even sure what they're supposed to hold. Maybe a box or two of those plastic reload cases?

Anyway, I finally found my dream mag bag:

Couldn't find the elusive 10-mag-bag, so I found a 20. :D
And since LAPG had a good sale, I went ahead and got 3 of the 5.11 ammo mules which were marked way down to like 20 bucks. Those hold 10 mags easily, so I should have plenty of storage now which is able to be grabbed and taken for whatever. I'm not a huge fan of the big plastic ammo cans. I have two but I think a more elegant storage solution is going to be these ITS Gizmo Bags.

I've been using one of these for the past 8 years and it works out great. I'll be surprised if something ever breaks on it.

For short/light session, or shooting range, I usually carry ammo in these inside backpack:

As for mags, my rifle bag has great pockets for them. If I'm shooting just handguns, I'm usually able to squeeze extra mags inside factory pistol cases.

So, I finally got to shoot a Kriss Vector the other weekend (with @terrordog1490 to boot!) and I have to say it was...

Disappointing. I'm also pretty certain I had my thumb over the bolt catch and it punted my thumb off pretty hard when the gun went empty.

The good news is I'm now strongly interested in trap shooting. Any good shotguns and birdshot recommendations?

Edit: And I witnessed my first ever accidental bump fire.

@Swagger897 my brother-in-law uses a smaller tool bag for his range gear. It's actually a good idea since those types of bags are very durable. @a6m5 I actually laughed out loud at your "For short/light sessions" choice. Hey it works and that's all that matters. @Obelisk for shotguns I'd recommend checking out a Remington 870 or Mossberg 590. Both of these shotguns have proven track records and are available in different configurations. I don't know what sporting good stores you have nearby but keep an eye out for sales that includes either one of these shotguns and two barrels (one for home defense and another for trap/skeet/hunting).

I'd start out with a cheap pump. I bought a Maverick 88 when I was 18 and basically used if for everything even skeet/trap. There are more steps to a pump action than a semi auto and IMO makes you a better shooter once you get it down. A Maverick 88 is a cheapened version of a Mossberg 500 but most everything on them swaps over. Sometimes you can find good deals on the Mossberg 500 combo which comes with a long barrel and a shorter barrel. My Maverick came with the 28" and I ended up having to buy the short 18" one for the house. So the combo is a good deal all in all. Can usually get it for around $300-$350. I paid $190 for my Maverick 88 back in 2000 and believe they still go for around the same. I still use it for home defense. It's literally the best thing for under $200 I've ever bought. I changed the slide tube over to an old style Mossberg 500 just because I wanted to be able to change the furniture on it. The factory one was a pinned plastic model that I believe even comes on the M500 now. I have lots of configurations.

Duly noted. Are there any decent priced side-by-sides or o/u shotguns?

What about the birdshot? Any particular brands to go for?

As for birdshot I usually use the cheap stuff you find at Walmart that is usually $25 for a box of 100 rounds. However, if you intend on purchasing a semi-auto shotgun you'll probably want to use ammo rated at 1300 fps (at the very least).

I don't have any experience with side-by-side or o/u shotguns but one if my coworkers loves his Steoger (I don't remember the exact model) side-by-side.

The Russian Baikal Shotguns are pretty much unbeatable when it comes to affordable SxS or OU shotguns. They're Russian as heck (Sturdy) and pretty where it counts. Remington used to import them and stamp their own brand logo on them for a while.

I think in the US they're currently sold as EAA shotguns.

Stay away from the Turkish shotguns , they're equally cheap but not even nearly as sturdy. Last year a batch of those guns didn't pass the pressure proof testing in my country, they all blew up, since that incident nobody wants to import any of those anymore.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Baikal shotguns.

Made some 45-70's, 405 grain softpoints at 1700 fps in Starline nickle-plated brass. Boy I love nickle plated brass, they only cost a few bucks more / 50 than normal brass and they are corrosion resistant, are smoother (Especially when squeezing them through reloading dies) and they look good too.

Wow its really quiet in here! :guilty:

My first shots with my new rifle, it likes one projectile but totally hates the other one I tried. The one it did not like was the Sierra Matchking, produced 2-2.5'' groups with all kinds of loads even though the twist rate should be about perfect for it. First rifle I know who dislikes that projectile. First I thought my mount has loosened again.

Also the muzzle brake is lots of fun, its so loud I have to wear double ear protection, just earmuffs and my ears still ring slightly - but it really cuts recoil in half - and blows stuff across the shooting table.

Some of my better groups that day. First group shot from a bipod, the second from a rest, thats why there is a shift in point of impact. Also a funny trend I start to see is I always shoot a little better using a bipod. In theory I should be more accurate from a sandbag like pretty much everyone else is but in practice its not true.

When the CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Pistol first hit the US market, I thought it was a cool gun but I wasn't interested in purchasing one. When SB Tactical released the SBTEVO brace specifically designed for this pistol, I suddenly found myself interested in this pistol. As I watched prices for the SBTEVO brace slowly decrease, I also observed an increase in price for this pistol despite the so called "Trump slump." I watched and read just about every useful review I possibly could about this pistol. To see what people had to say about this pistol and the aftermarket support. I saw a post on Gun.deals for NGOA and took advantage of their trial membership since they advertised the lowest price I had seen for this pistol in a very long time. Before I even took possession of this pistol from my FFL, I had already ordered a SB Tactical SBTEVO brace, Apex Optimizer grip, Apex ambidextrous safety set and two CZ 30-round magazines. I also had a Vortex Venom red dot sight laying around for previously planned purchase that never happened.

As you've probably seen in the picture above, the Apex grip is no longer on the pistol. I initially installed the grip but decided to take remove it because I prefered the factory grip. In just about every review I watched and read people complained for various reasons about factory grip and how much they prefered aftermarket grips. For myself I felt that the Apex grip was a little too short and thin for my preference. The Apex grip itself is very well built, if the grip were a little longer then I might have considered keeping it.

The safety levers that come installed from the factory on this pistol were poorly designed. From an ergonomic perspective it doesn't matter if you're right or left-handed, they will dig into your hand. I don't understand how this gun went into production with these levers but luckily this is an easy fix. There are many aftermarket options and CZ now offers a control delete option for $13.00 (USD). For myself I chose the Apex ambidextrous safety set, they serve their purpose very well and will work just fine for myself and anyone I allow to shoot my pistol.

A few years ago I purchased Vortex Venom red dot specifically for a FNH PS90 I planning on purchasing. When I finally had the money to make the purchase, PS90 prices had increased everywhere and I chose to wait. I waited and waited in hopes that prices would eventually return to their sub $1,200 (USD) glory days but that never happened. Suddenly the only place I could find a PS90 for sale was on Gunbroker and every single one of them were price gouged. As much as I would love own a PS90, I have since moved onto other firearms chambered in calibers that are easy to find inexpensive ammo for. Online I could not find many review of people using this red dot sight on a CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1. Since I already had it laying around I figured I'd give it a try and see what happens. This sight sits low enough for me to 1/3 co-witness with factory iron sights. The field of view is nice but not as tall or as wide as that of an Eotech. I specifically chose the Venom because of its size, price and free lifetime warranty from the factory. The more expensive brands i.e. Eotech, Aimpoint, Leupold, etc. all have proven track records but I am not a professional door kicker.

The SB Tactical SBTEVO brace is a must have if you do not plan on turning this pistol into a SBR (short barrel rifle) or purchasing it with a 16 inch barrel. The fact that this is a foldable brace makes it easier to fit inside a backpack or messenger bag if you choose to utilize it as a PDW (personal defense weapon). The brace folds and unfolds fairly easily but only locks when unfolded. On a positive note, when folded the brace remains in position until you unfold it. If you haven't handled a firearm with a brace I strongly recommend that you try it. Prior to purchasing my pistol and brace, I got a chance to shoot an AK47 pistol and Sig Sauer MPX (both equipped with SB Tactical braces) and loved it. After shooting those two pistols with braces I had to have something similar. Additionally, another contributing factor was the ATF "Re: Reversal of ATF Open Letter on the Redesign of Stabilizing Braces" letter released last year 21 March 2017 (links to letter below).

At the range it took me a little bit of time to sight-in the red dot sight. I usually sight-in all my guns with a gun rest, but today I didn't have the time to do so. I was able to get rough 25-yard sight-in with all my shots take from a standing unsupported position. For ammo I used Silver Bear 115 gr FMJ and PPU 115 gr FMJ. Below is a picture of a shot group I was able to produce towards the end of my range session at 25 yards. This group consisted of 30 semi-rapidly fired head shots on a B-27 paper target. Also, something else to consider is that this was all done with the factory 8 lbs trigger.

Overall I am very pleased with this pistol. At the moment I'm contemplating on purchasing a HB Industries reduced weight trigger spring kit and extended charging handle, but we'll see what happens once I get more rounds through this pistol. I'm also contemplating on sighting-in this pistol at 50 yards later on this year once it gets cooler outside. However, this is something else I need to do a bit more research on. For the time being I am ok with a 25 yard sight-in. Something else I want to address is another complaint some reviewers had about this gun. There were a few complaints about magazines sticking in the gun while the magazine release lever was depressed and I did not experience this with mine. But then again judging by the markings on my pistol and magazines (correct me if I am wrong) I think mine were all built in 2018.

Lastly, I apologize for the long post. This probably the longest post I have made on this forum. But I hope that the information I shared with you guys was useful.

Interesting...

Reminds me of the OA-96/OA-98 that came out from the bans in the late 90s.

Olypmic Arms, man I haven't heard that name in a very long time. I'm actually glad that you mentioned the 0A-96/0A-98 because I didn't know about them. As a matter of fact, I had to Google them and watch a video about them by Forgotten Weapons. I've only been a gun enthusiasts for 8 years and with you mentioning those two firearms I began think about similar firearms such as Uzi, Mac-10, Tec-9 etc. History has a tendency to repeat itself in some way, shape or form. Given how popular sub-guns are in today's current market, was this segment of the market as in the 80-90s as they are today?

Don't ever apologize for length when you've got quality. 👍

Thanks man I really appreciate it. I generally don't like posting long posts, but I enjoy talking about guns and learning about them from the experiences of others.

You want another good example of circumventing bans? Look up the Ladies' Home Companion, a "revolver" that's basically a Streetsweeper shotgun rechambered for .45-70.

This is not helping the itch I am getting for a pistol caliber carbine.

Just watched a video about that gun and it is very ingenious. It would be interesting to see what the engineer(s) of that gun could do with today's technology.

This is not helping the itch I am getting for a pistol caliber carbine.

I know that feeling all too well. If it weren't for the fact that I wanted something different from the AR platform, I would have had a Palmetto State Armory (PSA) AR-9 pistol a long time ago. There are so many options currently out on the market. Plus SB-Tactical continues to develop new braces that make this segment of the market more interesting.

Need some help identifying a weapon. These belonged to a relative who recently passed. The revolver is a King Cobra which I plan on keeping, but I don't know what the other is. It's very light, though. The two ammo boxes were found with it. My buddy says they're .22 with the short ones for the pistol, and the long ones for likely a rifle; we're still going through his things, so I have no idea if there's a rifle in his home.
