He does have a point. Most people haven't really thought through the importance of the Bill of Rights, especially not 2A. I think it's better to use logic and the examples of shootings and crime in strict gun control nations before getting into overthrowing corrupt governments. People are more likely to listen when they realize that the facts point towards concealed carry and private ownership of firearms.
Don't let people talk about how the UK and OZ reduced gun violence, look at all violent crime. Remind them that criminals have and always will obtain tools to commit crime.
Get rid of the notion that guns are tools designed for the sole purpose to kill. My guns have never killed anything. Am I misusing them? Of course not. Guns are a tool that hurls a projectile with great speed.
Talk about prohibition and current drug use. How does anyone expect gun control to be any better? Especially when there are so many guns and parts in legal and illegal circulation.
But you know what? We have an opinions forum for this. I come here to get away from the politics and enjoy my hobby.
I'm looking for an optic for my AR. 16" general purpose rifle. Most of my shooting is within 100 yards, but I do some bench rest shooting from time to time. I'm not even set on magnified vs un-magnified. The rifle has been to two carbine courses, both times I was reminded of the importance of durability and back up irons when other people's optics went down.
I've looked around and I'm liking the Trijicon ACOG TA33 with a horseshoe-dot reticle. Only 12oz., battery-free illumination, 3X magnification. Seems plenty durable. Pretty expensive, but my LEO friend can get one <$900.
Other people who shoot the gun voice support for a Leopold 3-9X. I don't think we have the same priorities

They want to print the tightest groups, I want to print tight groups quickly.
Late response at BruthSup: I'd contend that the .223/5.56 is plenty capable for humans at short to medium (~500m) range. The are reports of insufficient performance, yet many more of one shot drops at several hundred meters. This is often down to bullet selection. M855 and M193 seem to be the culprits of reports of over penetration. Mk262 OTM (Open Tip Match) and Mk316 have really stepped up the terminal ballistics. This isn't to say the first two are bad rounds, just not as good as the new stuff.
I am biased. I'm a 5.56 and 9mm kind of guy. I prefer being able to quickly put multiple rounds into vital areas. Still, I don't for a second doubt that there are superior rounds on the market, but I'd rather spend that money on training.
No round is a one shot stop. Not 9mm, not .45, not 5.56, not .308, not .50. Shot placement, shot placement, shot placement.
