Maybe this has been mentioned already but if you want complete realism, just play with the HP until you get to this year's pole time of I believe 48.36 seconds with the rest of the field very close behind. Not sure what that number is but I don't think it would take more than 10-15 minutes to find out. I'll give it a spin tonight and post the figure if no one else does first.

Being pushed by a field of cars and being alone on the track are two different worlds. I got 50. something with 450 hp and no draft so I think that's pretty close to reality. Makes sense because in real life, restricted cars are around 445 hp.

What happens in the draft is determined by GT5 and you can't change. If you set the cars up to run alone at the qualifying time for this year's 500, that's as close to reality as you can get, regardless of whether it's 450 or 600 hp. Is it more important that actual hp number be real, or that you be running the realistic lap times?

A quick test reveals that with 515 hp you can run around 48.3 seconds lap time alone, with downforce set to 20/40. I'm just guessing, but I would thinkRacing Hards could last 40-50 laps with this set up. It was as easy as pie to drive, although with the set up I have it was easy to drive at 892 hp as well. I think it would be a lot of fun to try some restrictor plate racing!!!

I didn't get you at first, because it sounded like it was a bunch of cars together in qualifying, but now I'm with ya.

What gear reatio did you use?

I'm opening an hour early because of my unpredictable schedule. Join at will - 502hp is the limit.

ROOM OPEN

And mics are enabled, though I don't have one...

I just played in one of those restrictor plate NASCAR rooms today that was 512HP and top speed set to 211MPH or 217MPH with 15 other players. It was a lot of fun and yes the stock cars handle much better and are far more stable with this restrictor plate. There were many 3-wides and yet no wrecks (maybe a couple)!! It felt like real life NASCAR.

I don't think it was your room though because I don't recognize your PSN. It was hosted by some player from Italy.

Some idiot came in to play and caused a massive wreck. He typed that we should play "real NASCAR," LOL! IT IS with the restrictor plate! GT5 NASCAR (892HP/249MPH top) is not realistic whatsoever besides the fact that you're going really, really fast. Also there are far more wrecks in those.

Ran some restrictor plate races tonight and I really liked it, although I like it without the restrictor plate as well. I didn't really find less accidents because I think most accidents are caused by reckless drivers and by guys with controllers that can't control their cars and that doesn't change no matter what speed you're going. In a room with good drivers who know and respect each other I think you'd have less accidents for sure.

Well I'm Canadian so I used the metric gearing of 360 km/h which translates to 225 mp/h. I do run my gears a bit tall because I expect to be running in a draft and running taller gears I think keeps you below the rev limit and makes your engine last longer between oil changes...but I could be wrong. It worked because I won a few times. Some of the American I raced with were saying they were using 216 mp/h (350km/h). I run 410 km/h (256 mp/h) without the restrictor plate if that helps.

242 mph gearbox got me 49 second laps and 185mph with no draft. However as no-one joined we coulcn't do any testing. 502 hp is what we are settling on though.

Amyway, are guys ready for some real racing?

Yes. I think we should do safety car testing as it's very easy to cause a wreck at these speeds and once you lose draft you're out of the running.

How about I open another room, 8pm GMT Tonight, and we do some more testing. 3 people yesterday was not enough.
