On the topic of test tracks, I usually use (among original rFactor courses) Orchard Park's road course as my test course. Its combination of being a rather technical course along with the speedway oval is a good overall test of handling and high speed. It gives me sort of a baseline and an idea of what a car is capable of.
Now for some random rFactor musings...
* When I took my first ever laps around EuroRing, part of me wants to imagine this course being one long drift stage. A lot of the sudden corners seems to really favor those who love drifting. Part of my experience on EuroRing includes using the rTrainer car and even the ALMS Panoz Esperante ALMS GT race car. This track is very competitive. I can easily see this to be a great course to race with low-level GT cars and some touring cars. It may even be good for vintage racing.
* The Panoz Esperante GT1 is one of my all-time favorite race cars, but the way it's set up in rFactor is almost like it has ice tires. It sounds great at speed in the game. I may need to consider a balanced setup so that it doesn't feel like it is driving on ice.
* If I design skins for cars, I may use a two-stage setup with Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 that I bought last weekend for PSD editing, then use Paint.NET for DDS conversion. It's a two-stage approach unless I am somehow able to get PSE13 to load and save DDS files. I already have a plugin for Paint.NET that allows for loading/saving of DDS files.
Other than that, it's good to be back playing rFactor.
