Bad I may need to buy a new one, and have to do some research and planning on getting a plasma, which is hard to find now as it's not really in production anymore.
I've just paid $149 to have surgery performed on my PS3 so I can sort of feel your pain. Apparently the Blueray thingy decided to retire earlyBad I may need to buy a new one, and have to do some research and planning on getting a plasma, which is hard to find now as it's not really in production anymore.

I've got a Panasonic full HD LCD that I'm very happy with & can't fault. I can't speak for the plasma models but I was advised to go the LCD option.Panasonic's top of the line plasma TVs are very good!
Not sure if it happens overseas, but here in Australia the channels have an obsession with what's known as a watermark in one of the bottom corners either letting you know what channel you're on or one of their upcoming programs. If you watch an all day sporting event, that innocent little watermark can leave a permanent/faint image on a plasma screen & that's why I was advised to go with an LCD.I have a 46" Sony XBR LCD TV - it was an awesome TV when it came out, way back in 2008...
Plasma's, especially good ones like the Panasonic VT series (I think VT was their top of the line - can't remember), are typically better with black levels. Unfortunately, they've been discontinued. Everybody wants bigger and it's a lot easier/less expensive to go the LCD route. With LED backlighting & local dimming, you can get pretty awesome black levels with LCD though. If I were shopping for a new TV today, I would go that route. If it were 2012-2013, I would go with a plasma.
I'm familiar with the possibility of ghosting with plasma's as well. I think they've come a long way with preventing that, but it wouldn't surprise me if it still can happen - even with the newer models. I wouldn't want to take the chance. I have seen it happen on old plasmas. It looks horrible! Not sure if it happens overseas, but here in Australia the channels have an obsession with what's known as a watermark in one of the bottom corners either letting you know what channel you're on or one of their upcoming programs. or any static image can do that on a plasma screen. Well pointed. 👍that innocent little watermark can leave a permanent/faint image on a plasma screen
I hope you'll chose what is best for you for the moment. 👍I have been considering chinese brand, got some infos that most of big brand panels ( that are not premium models ) are manufactured in China. 2 of the biggest panel producer are TCL and Changhong, they make up the majority of the panels made in china and export panels for major brands ( TCL is also joint owned by Samsung ). The big brands like Samsung, LG, Sony, Sharp, Panasonic panels are not all made in their respective countries of origin. Only the select premium models have panels made in Korea or Japan, the rest are sourced from Chinese made panels, so they can get most cost effective tv with competitive prices yet still have good profit margin.
2013-2014 were the last years for Plasma / PDP production by major brands, but one Chinese brand still make Plasma, Changhong, probably for a few years I am thinking of the plasma, which is very cheap for 50" size 3D 1080p tv. What really matters in a LCD/Plasma tv is the panel and how good the AV processing hardware that support it ( less lag, upscale, and reliability ) The TV came with 3 years full spare part and service warranty and I have seen the tv in action, which is very good, my old Samsung is awful in comparison. I also have been advised on TCL Smart TV Roku, smaller in size at 40" but is LED LCD TV 1080p and about 25% cheaper than the plasma and a TCL UHD 40" TV about 20% pricier that Plasma. TCL is major sponsor in Marvel universe movies, featured in Avengers, Captain America and Iron Man movies ( all of the screen props I think )
I am prioritizing on picture quality, so plasma is preferred, only the latest and premium UHD TV can compete with last line of plasma in picture quality ( black level, white, contrast, color accuracy etc ) and most of these ultra expensive UHD tv still beaten, with 1 or 2 model can get toe to toe. Reminds me of Pioneer Kuro, that was a monster in picture quality
Going 4K now is a bit pointless, the 4K source is still very rare, and won't be mainstream until at least 3 or 4 years, and 1080p upscaled on 4k tv is not good IMO.
'Caveat emptor' is an old Latin saying we should all live by.I have been considering chinese brand, got some infos that most of big brand panels ( that are not premium models ) are manufactured in China. 2 of the biggest panel producer are TCL and Changhong, they make up the majority of the panels made in china and export panels for major brands ( TCL is also joint owned by Samsung ). In this case, the internet will be your best friend. User reviews do away with all the 'salesman jargon' & give it to you honestly from a customers perspective. Although not totally free from manipulation (in some cases you'll find glowing entries from company staff), it's as good as honesty gets from multiple sources.I have been checking online tv reviews and comparisons, most of the premium or top of the line TV do not always have good input lag or good black level Have to be very careful just looking at the tech babble the brand use to sell the tv and most of the motion enhancement like 800hz or 400Hz stuff are useless for gaming, they only add more input lag had to to turn all post processing off for game and movie anyway for me, I'm a nut for authentic experience including pro calibration for movie viewing
👍Have you considered one of these ? It may help you on line when your car is jumping all over the screen, you can make the screen jump (sweep) up or down , might be able to synchronize it with your car and get a steady image.

Hope you get one soon 👍.
