Robin Williams found dead at home

I've just watched his intro to Al Pacino's AFI Lifetime Achievement Award the other day and now this? May his soul rest in peace. Thanks for the good laughs and fun times.

Robin Williams, Dead Poets Society
We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, “O me! O life!… of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless… of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?” Answer: that you are here; that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?

This pic pretty much sums it up. :(

Robin was a great actor, and he also was in some of my favorite movies (Robots, Mrs. Doubtfire, Good Morning Vietnam, Aladdin, etc.) It is really sad to see him kill himself after all the great work he has done.

RIP Robin; you will be missed forever. :(

... Bicentennial Man a few days ago :( Sad day for me....

I hadn't even thought of that... amazing how much slips from the mind over time :(

I wanted to hate that film as an Asimov purist but ended up loving it despite being able to list 23,342,219 critical flaws. I may watch it again this evening in fact.

I don't even know what to say! Such talent and probably has more funny bones than anyone I can think of!

I loved his story of how golf was invented, never fails to make me laugh! R.I.P Robin lad, you'll surely be missed by pretty much everyone.

Swearing warning.

You Isaac Asimov types always kill me :sly: *

*I'm an Asimov fan myself.

Very sad news - Robin Williams was a true hero of comedy.

As well as his numerous brilliant performances in the movies, he was also second to none as a stand up comedian - his performance at the New York Met in 1986 is nothing short of legendary, and it was among the very first stand up comedy routines I ever saw, predated by Billy Connolly's classic 'An Audience with...' performance of 1985. Little did I know at the time that Connolly and Williams were great friends - as well as drinking buddies - can you imagine what a night out with those two would have been like...

The painfully ironic thing is he died the same way as his son in 'World's Best Dad'. Creepy.

A work colleague came in this morning to tell me that Robbie Williams had die. They were shocked. To be fair, so was I!

From one Robin to another I'm so sad he's gone. He pretty much was my childhood as his peak was the 90's.

I remember seeing 'Hook' for the first time on a plane back when it was a single projector in the cabin. It has to be my favourite film of his, great emotion and re imagining of a classic. I was also really looking forward to the Mrs Doubtfire sequel, unfortunately they left it slightly too late for us to see him again portray a character which will define him forever.

He had a great warmth that many other comedy actors lack, sure there's laughter but there rarely is that warmth.

Robin Williams probably lost his fight against his inner demons. But for sure he deserves our credit for being an outstanding actor and personality. RIP - may your soul find freedom.

"What dreams may come" - is one of my all time favourite movies. Watch it! NOW!

Does the rehab facility offer refunds?

This saddens me greatly. My favorite thing in the whole world is people like Robin who are spontaneously funny. I can only imagine his thought process, but humorous bits and bobs always just occur to me and I can feel so lonely surrounded by people that aren't on the same wavelength. I wonder if Robin ever felt this with his abounding comic genius.

It is terrible to have addiction. I'm so glad that he fought so hard for so long against it, so that young people could grow up sharing the joy and the delight he gave to anyone that gave him his or her attention.

True comics are a dying breed, I fear. Robin Williams is a legend.

edit: Ugh... pardon the pun on that last line. Didn't even notice it.

Simply could not believe this. Honestly one of THE most shocking and unexpected deaths that I can think of. I just truly never knew he had any demons or was struggling. Just cant believe it was suicide. So sad indeed for such an inspirational actor. :(

Isn't it sad to think that this massive outpouring of appreciation and respect could possibly have saved him? I don't suppose it could have, in the end, but it's sad that we only feel willing to gush about those we admire when the hour is too late.
