Rotaries at Midfield - fun open day

Well.......

I've managed a time of 59.976 after 37 laps. I know there is plenty of time that can come off of that, but I can't seem to get the braking and turn-in points on the first turn down correctly. I always seem to get through the first turn slower with each successive best lap and have to make up time at the first tunnel entrance, so I have only been able to shave off minimal portions of lap times.

The hairpin 2nd tunnel entrance turn following the fast switchback is giving me a host of problems as well. Many times I have been in front of my ghost at that point, then mess up there, either going into the corner too deep or clipping the apron and spinning out. After having run considerably slower cars all day, the 787B feels extra jerky, and I have been overcorrecting loose conditions at the hairpin resulting in the car shooting towards the outside wall and into the dirt.

I imagine it will just take some time to get back used to.

Thats a very quick time in the Arcade version of the 787B. I'll go and update the board ;) Never really did quite as many laps in the Arcade version, but enjoyed my time behind the wheel (until the 900hp model drew my attention).

I know what you mean about your troubles on the sharp left hander leading into the second tunnel. People say that Midfield is a 'non challenging' track ........ but for mine, it provides a good high speed experience but with subtle (and yet costly at times) bends and twists. its a VERY underestimated track IMHO.

I've recently been involved in a spot race over at the GTF where Midfield played host to a swag of fully modified 'shelby cobras'. If you thought that setting up a 787b is hard ......... try getting this thing around the track

Yikes! I can imagine how much of a challenge that must be. Taking a light, high-powered, rear-wheel drive car around the various banked turns found at Midfield would make one shudder just thinking about it. But with that car, I would believe that the suspension set-up would be more important than anything else, as one would need to find a way to get the Cobra to stay in a straight line

I will probably try to improve on my current best time with the arcade 787B soon. Better yet, I'll probably take a few runs at it as soon as I get finish posting this message and taking a quick view around the other forums to see whats new.

Your absolutely right about the suspension settings for the Cobra. I spent ages tuning the supension and even resorted to turning up the TCS to 4

Last night i loaded up the ole PS2 in between TV programs (what an exciting life i lead ;) ), and managed to hit a nice clean 1'00.2xx with my arcade 787B. Suprised at how quick i caught my old 'ghost' and can see a sub 1'00.xxx in my next session.

Well I had a go at it last night and managed a 59.981 on the second lap, so I thought that I would be able to easily surpass it within a couple of laps. Didn't happen. Once I get a good time in, I just can't seem to get the right line through the first turn and it puts me behind. I don't know what the deal is. I've tried turning the ghost off, but it doesn't seem to help and I always turn it back on to see just how far ahead of me "it" is.

hey ryp

just ran about 40 laps in the Arcade spec 787B, and managed a time of:
1:00.670

I couldnt for the life of me beat that ghost today, but u bet i'll be back having a go in the near future. I want to join the sub 1:00.000 club and so far i'm having a rough time. But i'll get there! i know where i'm losing the time and i just got to be a bit more gentle on the accelerator out of that darn hairpin.

I'll be back! :D :D

HR186S, nice to see you. You won't recognize me under this screename, but I go by the name "FyreFury2001" over at GameFAQs.

Hey boys.

Great time in the arcade 787B HR186S. I too have been doing a few laps here and there and am currently running consistent 1'00.3's to 4's with a best of 1'00.2xx. Hopfully both of us can crack the sub minute.

troy - hey buddy, good to see another rotary on this fine track. I take it your 787B was fully modified and had 984hp?

Mate, just read through the pages of this thread and you will find heaps of settings for various cars and in particularly the 787B. It may take a bit of time but will no doubt improve your PB's.

;)

Oh Hi!

:D
i dont post much over here, usually just lurking around looking for a challenge. The rotary day is my favorite so far :)

I'm usually over on the granturismo.com forums :)
Me and the SDR boys are looking for a new challenge at the moment so i'll be posting more here looking for some racing action!

well after posting the last message i thought i'd whip out the trusty 787B and have another go:

did about 50 laps and managed a string of 1:00.6's - 1:00.1's

got 1:00.121 on the second lap but i couldnt beat it!

well funny what a days difference does! I'll have to go again tommorow! :)

Dragged out the ole black RX7 LM and modded her up to 979hp. Hit the track with my old set up and took a while but managed some nice mid to low 58's. Then i decided to dig out a folder that i have with some settings scribbled down and loaded in IforceV8's suspension settings combined with my gearing and LSD i managed to get a new PB with a run that i'm really happy with but i know i can improve :D

57.524 (17.278/34.919)

Have done heaps of laps in this track lately (being doing a couple of OLR at midfield of late), and it felt good to get behind the wheel of the 'Supra Beater'. I'm really trying to put the rotary right up there amonst the DENSO and CASTROL Supras that seem to dominate the FR records at Racing Lines.

Go the rotaries!

Strange how when i was trying IforceV8's settings when he first posted them they didn't seem to agree with my driving style.

I think I know now why my 787b full moded lap sucks, I dont know if i was running T8s on it or not, I'll try and find some time for it, me and iforce havin a spot race, hehe.

T8's might help ;) :D (especially with this beast!)

Is IforceV8 runnin the fully modified 787B as well? I'm sure that some good times will be comming in then :)

My brother in law had some laps in the arcade 787B and came away after 40 odd laps with a very repectable 1'00.710.

I've created a monster  :P

My brother in law has been playing heaps of GT3 of late, and really enjoys Midfield. Today he loaded up my old arcade 787B ghost (not a very impressive time), and proceeded to smash it with a very good 1'00.074 run. I then decided it was time to get some good laps in with the arcade quad rotary but could only manage a new PB of 1'00.111 (18.292/36.781) :(

Was ahead of his ghost by .3 at the sector 2 mark on a couple of occasions, but always seemed to find a way to stuff up the last few twists and bends. Frustrating knowing that improvement is there but my thumbs won't co-operate.

One of my main goals has been to get three things done in this rotary open day -

1. get into the 55 second club in the 984hp 787B

2. break into the 57's with the RX7 LM

3. do a sub minute run in the arcade 787B

*gets down on hands and knees*

i need this o mighty one

strange ....... the only one who seems to be listening at the moment is this ugly fellow ........ 😈

What are your guys's T1,T2 times on midfeild. I wanna compare b/c i wanna know where i need improvment.

On the first T1 right after the big sweeping turn and the little joggles i get a 17.0xx and at best a 16.9XX

on the t2 after the tunnel with the folowing big turn i get 35's and at best 34.9

All i can get are 57.602 at best on midfeil, BTW: this is with the 787B

Dunno but I was talkin about our spot race at the GTD board, the one where he destroys me.

IforceV8 destroys almost everyone who plays GT3  ;)

He and hypersport were the two fastest RX7 LM's here at Midfield for quite a while. Don't know how much effort they put into it, but i managed to claw back and am hopeing that they don't show up again in thier flying RX7 LM's!

BTW troy - Your time is great in the 787B. When this thread first started ages ago i was running high 56.xxx's and through the help of the guys around here (and a couple of other places where this was run) i managed to shave off a couple of seconds. I don't have my sectors handy at the moment, but it may be worth your while to start from the begining of this thread and read through it completely (i know it may seem like a waste of time). In the posts you will find numerous settings and racing lines advice, as well as as many sectors and data logger readouts as you will ever need. I'm sure your times will fall, and your appreciation of the rotaries in GT3 will increase :)

I got a 56.8 in the 984hp 787b, 3 wheels off though.

He's beatin me by 3 seconds so far, he's prolly down in the 5.58s now:(

gotta link?

I was actaully thinking of posting a link to this thread over at the GTN. Its already been linked to such places as the GTF, House, and Dugs. Would be great to see guys like jmr and Morelli giving this one a crack.

Should drop them a few hints ;)

Never thought that i'd get behind the wheel of the 984hp 787B again but after seeing what i just witnessed i feel some motivation comming on.

I've got my brother in law staying with us at the moment and he is getting VERY quick around a couple of tracks (Trial Mountain and Midfield) and has just become the newest member of the 55 second club. Let me set the scene...........

..........Mt brother in law (the GIMP) has been playing the arcade 787B for a few days now and sat down for 60 odd laps and was the first out of the two of us to crack below the magic minute mark 59.997 (18.205/36.444). I then said that he should have a crack at the 55 second club using my 984hp 787B that had been collecting dust in my garage. He was a bit dubious at first but then proceeded in the first 3 laps to do .....

59.866
58.403
57.226

Not to shabby for a first up attempt. Then after a fair few more laps a new 'club 55' member was born -

55.989 (16.745/33.950)

I didn't have a go with the fully modified beast but instead had some laps with the arcade version and finally cracked the magic minute mark as well -

59.737 (18.060/36.446)

Can see a tad more improvment in this one. And to make it even better i have just received via e-mial Arco's magical 59.4 second arcade 787B run (pity i don't have an x-port to download it onto my card   ). I'll find a way to get it loaded up!

:D

WOOHOO i just beat my 57.602 by a sec. (well almost ;))

I got a 56.7 after dinking around. I set my LSD acceleration at 60 and could take corners at much faster speeds. Soon i'll make it to the 55 club...

Try setting your LSD accerlation at 60 and try it, it worked wonders for me.

Hmmm you guys seem to be having fun with that fully modded 787B, might have to jump in and run a few laps after my OLR commitments end after this week. Looking forward to getting back into the quad rotor beast :)
