it's not only whether you top out or not.....the racing transmission is used to "fine" tune the gear ratios .....when i do my gear ratos, i don't even touch the auto setup......this is more for people with less knowledge about cars

The race is on!

Wity just passes Mr P to take the second spot with a 55.670 GVX is in his sights now and without the weight of that T/C unit and a brand spanking new alloy gerbox that 54 is going down. :D

spaceviper - look forward to seeing some of your GT2 rotary times and set ups, and even some GT3 ones when it gets fixed.

cheers
;)

*doing my best Ricky Lake Show impression*

go Wity, go Wity, go Wity, go Wity!

;)

lol i really dont have any setups because most of my cars, such as my RX-7'S are bone stock, but for the hell of it i will put my red '90 RX-7 on the tuning machines and see what i can come up with, maybe even my RX-7 cabrio. will get some turning.

this is cool man, i hope to see you put some more of these fun little open session races up. great idea!

sorry wity , you made me race it again with your time as a target and managed to take my 2nd spot back with a 56.001 settings are the same as before :D ;) , now i'm getting ready for some major improvement   i'll be back ;)

I'm so damn close to a 54.xxx now that I can smell it. Had a few more runs last night and managed to beat my previous best by 0.002  How crazy is that.

1st fastest lap- 55.044
2nd fastest lap - 55.046

I can't seem to string a perfect lap together  If I took my fastest sector times I should be down around 54.6xx something but I always stuff up one corner or another. I'm gonna beat this thing if it kills me trying

Ditching the traction control and hiking up the LSD sure helped me with the first right but because of the wheelspin I got as I accelerated out of the last left into the final tunnel my ghost was taking me. So back to the gearbox settings I went to find the grip in second gear which I have now with.

1/ 4029
2/ 2263
3/ 1595
4/ 1268
5/ 1101
F/ 3063

The problem now is that all the gearchanges are now at different places on the track and it feels like a case of me having made 1 step backwards to take two forward.

I am finding 55's far easier now but its gonna take a while for me to tattoo into my memory the right track points to hit the peddel to the metal, change and brake for a 54. Plus at the same time I am trying these gears with the T/C on 1 and lsd at 5~5~5. Feels like two different cars.

I'm sure I will get there but I doubt I will be the first to crack it.

What settings you using GVX ?

Hey Wity!

I just read your last post and I had to grin a little because what you were describing I had been through before. I don't have the full list of settings to hand but I can give you some tips on gearing and LSD.

LSD I have played with this so much I couldn't remember what worked and what didn't anymore. But when your trying to scrap a tenth off your time you'll try anything. Ok I'll give you the settings I'm currently running with 5^60^20 These work a treat and are tried and tested and helped me achieve my current fastest lap.

Gearing - Yep gearing is critical around this track especially with only 5 gears. To get the perfect mix is not easy and I have spent hours changing and re-changing the gearing to get the perfect setup. Don't have exact settings but pretty much know what I'm using.

1st - longest possible
2nd - longest possible
3rd - ? not sure but 240 kph is on the limiter
4th - ? not sure but 305 kph is on the limiter
5th - shortest possible

Final gear ratio 4.40
Auto setup is std setting 38 me thinks?

All other settings are pretty much the ones Mr Persistance posted this week with only very minor tweaking going on. I do run with down force on max 1.00^1.25 and TCS 0 and ASM 0. HP is 984.

For the tricky 2nd gear left hander into the tunnel I'm using 1/2 to 3/4 throttle going in and most of the way through the corner and when the cars starts to straighten out I floor it. This seems to work about half the time and you can spin your way upto 160kph and dump it into 3rd and fly up the hill through the fast s work your way through the gears and down the straight and go over the finishing line doing 330khp.

I thought I was cursed  and was never going to crack 54 secs. I mean how close to do you need to get. check these out.

55.046 -
55.044 - :shakehead
55.002 - :(

54.988 - :D yep finally done it!! at long last

and congrats gvx on a truely awesome lap man , be hard pushed for anybody to beat that man

Yeah I'm pretty pleased with that time  but do you know what the icing on the cake is

Checkout Racing lines fastest lap time

Wiese - German - Mazda 787B - Steering Wheel - 00.55.173 - 05 Sep 2001 - PAL

The Wiese has gone down!! :D

Well done GVX :)

Thanks for confiming TCS switched off as I thought it's the way to go.
May take me all weekend to join you but I know its within me.

There are so many different ways to set up a car to peak at much the same lap time which I find totally different to GT2. This time round settings are far more personal.

Know exactly what you mean about "you forget what works and what doesnt" for me the crunch was trying the springs at 10~20 that got me through the sweeper and into my first 56.

What I do find to be almost impossible though is to accelerate at anything less than max which I reckon is down to my controller. I can't stand the concave sticks of the Duel Shock as my thumbs constantly slip and I use a cheap 3D2 pad which has convex tops to the sticks. Funnily enough these are glass smooth but my thumb stays in place. The right stick just has nowhere near the smoothness of the Sony pads so it's either pedal to the metal or off. I keep saying I will go to using the buttons for gas and brake as I used to before I switched to the sticks and manual shifting as I did well especially on the dirt "toe and heeling"

A convex top on the left stick and the PS2 pressure sensitive buttons for gas and brake would be ideal for me I'm sure.

I haven't even bothered registering on the site to be honest. Just use it as bench mark for fast lap times.

Must check out a steering wheel at some point. We could be missing out on some really fast times. ;)

Wity, I think it's gonna be very difficult to get thru the tight left hander into the tunnel if you don't have analogue acceleration. The number of times I blown fast laps by over accelerating into and out of this corner is almost suicidal! Only advice I can offer is to use 3rd gear and live with decreased accel. shouldn't effect overall time by more than a tenth or two.

gvx man , i tried your gear settings and lsd settings and they are so crap man , its unreal how you pull of a 54.9 with them is beyond me man , my ghost for my gear settings is powering away ahead , and i cant touch it man but everyone to there own , i will look for new settings , i'm not giving up on this , maybe its the same scenario again the gears dont suit an auto driver . oh well i'm looking again . i'll be back  :( ;)

Yeah thanks for telling me my settings are crap!! the times speak for themselves  j/k. I've told you a hundred times before you gotta start using Manual transmission! Forget that pussy auto crap!  If you wanna be quick start using MT! ;)

lol he cant hear ya GVX he's just gone to work.

Switch on your icq and I'll tell you why he cant drive with manual ;)

The only problem is at work the Firewall stops me connecting to ICQ. I had it working before on my old PC but ever since I got a new one it don't work. Think it's something to do with the proxy settings??

P.M.'d instead then.

Ah what the hell if he wants to thump me he has to come to Wolvo first.

Q. Why has Ron never driven with manual gears ?

A. Cuz no one has yet made a peddal car with a gearbox. ;)

Got mad at myself for not getting a 55 in two hours earlier tonight I gave up.

Just got into a F1 and purposely got a 54.6? and saved it as a ghost cuz I was sick of the sight of the rear of the Mazda. Loaded the very first lot of settings I saved for it a couple of days ago by mistake and thought right then lets take on the Poly 001

1st fast lap 1st sector 16.7?? (previous best 16.2) absolutely aced the sweeper 2nd Sector 34.0?? (previouse best 33.8) stayed in third into the tunnel and nailed me a...

Welcome to the club Jayjitsu

Membership fees are bloody stiff and the beer is putrid but if you can slip nextdoor into Club 54 everything is half price and theres a strip show on :D

right had some more runs on the modded 787 and used jahitsu's settings found them quite good and only adjusted the brake balance best time after 15 laps is 55,389 :D and i'll do better tommorow when i've had some sleep :embarrassed: watch this space

oh yeah still on auto :( :D

Whoa

A man does not check in a for a little while and a new club has been formed. Well done GVX, you'll be hard pressed to find a better 787B time anywhere on the net. And to better Wiese is one hell of an effort! And to top it of, from what Wity has been saying you seem to have your own club and stripper. :P

I'm pretty sure that a very low 55.xxx time was posted at the GT Times records list, i'll have to go over and have a squizz.

Jayjitsu, welcome to the club, i'm one of the doormen here at the rear. ;)

Mazkid, well done buddy. You should try some of the other settings posted here and i'm sure that your PB time will fall. :)

Wity and mr persistance seem to be swapping paint at the track and it will be interesting to see if mr P can finally crack the 54's or will Wity catch his F1 ghost. For the answers tune in next week....... same bat channnel ....... same bat time .......... (sorry, i've got batman on my mind for some reason)

Anyways, i can't seem to crack my PB in the 787B :( . I might fiddle with some of the settings already posted here to see if i can improve. I might just tackle a fully modded RX7 LM for a little while just for a breather. (or i may just keep pushing the beast to breaking point!)

cheers fellas
