here's the part we're concerned with:

Contest Race Round 2. Round 2 Time Trial Events begins Monday, January 31, 2011 9:00AM EST and ends Sunday, February 6, 2011 11:59 PM EST. For qualifying contestants to enter, load Gran Turismo 5, log into your PlayStation Network account, and complete each of the two GT Academy time trial events for Race Round 2 (“Round 2 Time Trial Events”).

Ahh thanks. I didnt notice that. Kind of hidden imo

yes it would! I also believe that we'll see some sort of nordschleife combo but will be next round, or 3rd round? But yeah, I'm guessing we'll get the GTR as one of the cars for the next round, and maybe the GTA 370Z again. I've wondered if Tokyo R246 will show up at some point as well..

The 2 rounds will be probably be a stock 370z or stock GTR for one of them and a tuned version for the other one. I would also bet that Nurbergring will be in the finals.

I agree with a bunch of the comments that an average of multiple, consecutive laps would be nice. However, it should be noted that the term "lucky" isn't that accurate, at least for the top drivers. Sure, it may seem like those at the top just got a "lucky" time once, but that's not the case.

Fix posted a video of doing 3 straight laps at Tsukuba where he ran 1:05.0, 1:05.0, and 1:04.9 all in a row.

When 3wide was working on his Rome time you could see it drop from 1:21.2 down to 1:20.9 with a bunch of other times in between.

Personally, I've run a couple dozen laps Cape of 2:45.2 or better, including probably 8-10 separate 2:45.0's - and when I was running a lot there, I could probably run 5 laps in a row and average 2:45.5 or faster.

So...is one screaming lap realistic? No. Is it "lucky"? Not really. Any of the top drivers could have re-posted very solid times for all 3 combos within an hour or two.

I agree blindside.
Like in most forms of motorsport. While the pole position goes to the one who can generate one golden lap. That is almost always put in by some one who is a top runner that will put in consistent fast laps in the race.

Sorry Blindside, poor choice of wording on my part. I was just referring to how i drive sometimes i get a real lucky lap where everything comes together.

Camasi, that's a matter of consistency, not skill.

Practice enough (the correct way) and you will be able to replicate that lap that "came together out of nowhere" often.

You just managed to do what you were already trying to do. With enough seat time you will be able to manage more times than you miss. If that makes any sense?

Lucky, golden, or whatever term we want to use, I reckon the fact is we all get our luckiest and most golden lap up on the leaderboard, but the lucky laps more or less reflect the level of each driver's skill, just as the average of 5 laps would. In other words, assuming the competitors have been at it a while and nearly reached their limits, the 100th place driver isn't suddenly going to be catapulted into the top 10 from his most golden lap- maybe just a couple places up. :)

Put another way- if my lucky lap in 100th place doesn't beat your lucky lap in 10th place, it's very unlikely my best 5-lap streak is going to beat your best 5. :)

Skill helps with consistency too obviously but I think not as much as practice does. You can do consistently slow laps if you practiced the right way
