Round 2 Technical Discussion: Eifel

On a technical level, I find the AWD cars and comfort tires in this game to be VERY challenging. The more you push, the slower you go. You need to get a sense, through force feedback and sound, and just plain practice, what the limit of the car is with these tires. If you exceed that limit, your cornering speeds go WAY down. The classic phrase "slow down to go fast" perfectly describes the mindset you need to have here in order to lay down a flier. It's all about not making any sudden jerky movements in the car, especially in the lower speed corners. If the front or back end breaks traction and you go off-line, you might as well restart the lap. Smooth, precise inputs will get you far. It's a completely opposite approach to Toscana, which is just balls to the wall fun in a nice sticky tire, high hp, low weight, high aero monster where you can walk the back end up the hills and be very fast. You can afford to be very agressive, and car control holds higher weight there then Eifel. Eifel is a test of precision and finesse. Two polar-opposite car and track combinations if you ask me. Good stuff. /rant :low sleep: :high caffeine to compensate:

Great lap, anywhere in the 52's is very fast here, and a high level of driving. That said I think 51's will be the target for a seat in round 3.

Thanks dude! I hope 51s are good enough to get to round 3 but there is still a lot of time for people to improve.

Then I went back to Eifel and immediatley droped to the 52,s and from that point on I tried going faster and faster without resorting to mowing grass.

Do you think you can run a clean 51.0?

I am just trying to figure out what I need to shoot for since we are both in the same region. :)

Dropped to 10th overall in the West over night, so looks like I'm going to have to spend some more time on this track tonight. Hating this combo so much.

That surprises me, Turbo. I figured this would suit your tastes quite well.

Edit: On a different thought, I find T10 and T25 to be very, very tasty when done right. T10 can either be performed with a vicious, fully committed, four wheel drift or a smoother, slow entry fast exit approach. Both methods get you the same place in the same amount of time as there isn't a big stretch to T11 to penalize you for the previous turn.

... too many laps in an IS-F RM with sticky tires has weakened you my Jedi Master.

Ah but I disagree. That IS-F understeers like a pig too. And it's one of only a handful of cars in my garage using Racing tires, all my other cars are on Sport Hards or Sport Mediums.

I was doing just fine on Indy with my 1:51.0xx and could definitely have taken off more time. Damn cheaters had to ruin it.

I was stuck at 54 until i went to toscana and found out that it was faster to get off the pedals and let the car rotate through and keep the momentum up for acceleration. Then I went back to Eifel and immediatley droped to the 52,s and from that point on I tried going faster and faster without resorting to mowing grass.

I was trying to not go back to toscana until the weekend but I've got a good 2 seconds to gain there since I only spent 2 hours at it :/ Really regretting spending my day off on monday at indy.....

BTW I saw that Gar had set his abs to 3 for eiffel, I'm guessing that makes it so you can slam the brakes a bit harder and not have to worry about the car sliding under braking. Just wondering if anyone else is doing that. Stupid DFGT pedals suck for brake modulation.... :/ Trying to resist doing the bunjie mod just cuz it wouldn't be allowed for the finals....

Agreed, on indy the sectors were short enough that I could pinpoint where I was messing up and fix it. Tight technical tracks are better IMO than these massive fictional beasts. However, fictional beasts are more "fun" to drive....not more fun to tt..but to drive

Right on. I just wanted to give you some $hit.

P.S. Your Spec Miata is on Sport Softs :P

It's not a bad track, I actually like it. Just in combination with these tires it's hard to put the car where I want it.

The only one. :P

I have no idea how you guys are staying in 3rd gear around allot of these corners. My car will not turn in 3rd on some of these corners at all. I have to shift into 2nd to get the car to turn. Even with zero throttle the car will not turn in third.

The R34 likes turning with throttle, doesn't seem to like turning without throttle being applied..

Thats why i end up having to downshift to 2nd gear. If i give it throttle in 3rd the car just goes wide and i cant make the corner or it messes my setup for the next corner. I see everyone saying zero throttle but that doesnt seem to be working for me either. Im at a 1:53.920. I was up about .4 on that time during my lunch break a little while ago but botched the last corner.

Just gave this car and track combo a try for about 20min. .... fun would not be the description I'd give this1. long sweepers in an AWD boat on crap tires, argh i feel some procrastination coming on for this car/track combo.

I kinda wish we had another week, I'm just starting to get comfortable with this car/track combo lol

I have a 2:56.753 ...need to find 5 seconds before Sunday. :nervous:

I just spent about 40 dreadful minutes with this combination and managed to get myself down to a 2:52.687 which will be my final time. No more for me.

I only wish I was in this position. I'm at a 52.6 (I see you got down to a 52.2) but I'm stuck around 1:44.9 at Toscana. Currently 19th in the Midwest I figure I need a 51.9 and a 44.6 to make the cut - 4:38.8ish.

I am dreading the work I have to do on Eifel, I'm not sure why they decided to make a track that was an entire minute longer than the one it replaced. They could easily have made it the same time length as Indy. You see it all over the boards where someone was up til the last corner and then they had to drive another 3 min to try it again.

Also, the types of turns are so repetitive. 2 gentle lefts into hairpin rights, 2 hairpins into uphill exits, 2 turns over hill crests, 2/3 blind on power sections. Just really unimaginative and not very realistic.

Well scratch this track they just changed all tracks for round two.
