Not wanting to come across as a conspiracy theorist, but nothing about the whole Wagner situation has rung true since that coop attempt. But then again, and no disrespect to our Russian members here, but I struggle to get my head around the Russian mind-set. I bet most westerners do.

It is possible the entire coup was a false flag but that wouldn't really make much sense because all it does is enforce that Russia is weak, unless they are trying to play mindgames as their reality attempt has gone poorly.

Well, I guess we won't have to worry about HIM replacing Putin. Should have tried to be smuggled out of the country in an instrument case before flying anywhere.

That's bizarre, the last I read regarding this reptile was that he apparently broke relative radio/video silence since the coup by reporting from Mali, something about operating in 50*C+ and making Russia great again, e.t.c e.t.c. He's certainly been putting in the air miles if he decided to jet back to Russia in the interim.

That said, with everything that's happened I'd be shocked if he wasn't taking extra precautions and booked himself onto a secondary flight; all the uproar is due to his name and other big wigs appearing on the manifest, there's been nothing beyond that as yet.

Didn't see that one coming.

Edit.

Maybe Wagner can help Lukashenko fall out of a window first before heading towards Moscow.

We need more popcorn.

If you watch the supposed video of the plane crashing, there looks to be a cloud from an explosion just by where the plane appears to be dropping like a stone. Something's almost stopped that plane in it's tracks. I don't think it was a 'heart attack'.

Reliable sources indicate it was a NATO-trained gay assault pelican flying into the turbine.
I'd say that's no less implausible than a covid vaccine-induced heart attack at an incredibly fortunate/infortunate moment.

Just wondering:

Have any bodies been positively identified or was Prigozhin just on the passenger list?

Putin has seemingly confirmed that it was Prigozhin on the plane. However, I haven't seen anything about the bodies yet and even on the sites that bring uncensored war footage, there hasn't been anything either. You'd think at least one or two mobile phone photos would've leaked by now, but maybe the bodies were burned.

Honestly, I feel like there's an equal chance that Russia blew the plane out of the sky, that Prigozhin and Utkin faked their own deaths, or that the plane was sabotaged.

Apparently it was an explosion on board the plane, and Putin has personally confirmed that Prigozhin is dead.

Putin has also sent his condolences to Prigozhin's family.

Presumably they will also now qualify for a shiny new pushbike as a thank you.

There is footage of bodies, but you need some decent puzzle skills to get those back together to identify them.

There's also footage that pretty much shows an AA missile hitting the plane too. Given that Russia enjoys shooting down civilian aircraft, I'm guessing its defenses are perfectly calibrated to hit one.

Seems that they can only hit passenger planes with their technology.

explosion on board the plane
I mean, if the missile hits it hard enough technically it can be on board.

The ultimate chameleon is correct once again! Pretty wild how he does this lol.

@Touring Mars this is the reason I'd lean toward the US's "incomplete" assessment of a bomb. AA missiles aren't designed to actually hit a target, they're designed to explode nearby and hit the target with shrapnel. Various videos of other planes being hit shows that the airframe is usually partially intact with only the most stressed points having failed, like wing roots which is what happened to this Embraer.

A bomb of any size inside the pressure vessel of the plane, the cabin or cargo area, would've resulted in disintegration of the fuselage. An easier place to hide a bomb would've been in the main landing gear area which is indeed under the wing root but it's also immediately next to the pressure vessel so the percussion and proximity of shrapnel would've caused a catastrophic failure of the vessel. We'll probably never see a study of the wreckage to confirm.

The distance and type of strapnel an AA missile produces is more like a shotgun hit, it punctures the structure but doesn't really introduce a wicked pressure wave to the fuselage of the plane. It'll weaken structures, puncture hyraulic and fuel lines, puncture the engine internals, cut wires, etc, leading to a loss of power and control, thus possibly leading to a structural overload and failure. That's what it looks like to me.

Did the condolence note arrive before or after the plane hit the ground?
