Sébastien Loeb Rally EVO (PS4/XB1/PC) - Milestone

So because the game is hard, its rubbish?

Ah right so please tell where i said the game is rubbish? I said I hated it with a pad since I have seen the wheel feel is good. I said the CAR felt horrible with a pad not the whole game.

Started with all aids off and external cameraview. It's almost impossible to play. Very floaty and car seems to respond with lag. If the car responds it becomes quickly to twitchy because you just need to non-stop correct the oversteer. Turned stabillity control on and I had the impression it didn't make any difference at all.

Switch to bonnet- and incar- and it slowly came together. Car seems to be handling much better. Controller feedback/input seems to be giving much more feedback (maybe it's due to the view?) It's easier to control the car with all aids off and there is no swirling around like in the chasecam.

The track they have chosen for the demo is hard, very hard and it could turn off quite a few people from the game. Unfortunately there is only this stage but you can drive it at several different times during the day/night. No option to turn off damage during gameplay or photomode which is a missed opportunity. Rewind button is there but I prefer the no damage option instead.

The graphics are very nice and the stage design plus surroundings as well. It's very atmospheric. Framerate during gameplay holds up well but the replays are a mess. Framerate seems to be all over the place.

Photomode is a nice touch but I am missing filters and shutterspeeds . For the rest it works very well.

A promising title if they sort out the issues!

So no demo in the USA ? or is it coming tomorrow?

Yeah, what's up with that? I went to the PS store, and when I went to download it, it said that the page isn't available. Well at least it's coming out in just one month. It looks pretty promising to me, I was initially worried about how the car list would be, I assumed it would basically just be a bunch of Citroens, while yes it's mostly Loeb Citroens, there are tons of great cars in the game making it better than I could have hoped for. The stages seem to be well designed too. My only worries are the physics and the co driver. I have heard that the physics feel kind of floaty, but I guess I will see how that works for myself. The co driver in WRC 5 is by far my biggest complaint, among many about that game, so hopefully SLRE has a much better system that won't make me rage.

I had another go this morning and I changed the controller settings. The handling in chasecam was then much better and the car responded much better as well. I even almost made it through the stage without damage

I changed the steering (directional) to the d-pad layout. Switched brakes/acceleration to the classic layout. It worked great in Superstars V8 Next racing so I thought why not try it in SLR. If you are using chasecam then the d-pad config could help out.

The pacenotes are clear and well on advance. Haven't had any issues with them so far.

I am under the impression that stabillity control doesn't work on the DS3 and the 500. Can someone confirm?

Celica is différent and d-pad configuration seems to be fast!? It let's you throw the car into the corner and it seems very responsive. Could someone try it out as well? Maybe I am imagining things

@bluemoon_19 @Scuderia Paul @MXHyland since you are using the controller as well could you tell me what you think of steering with the d-pad?
Really start to like it:D

To add a (-)
Night races are a mess framerate wise 👎

Had a go last night, i quite liked it. It felt better on the DS4 than what i remember WRC3 feeling like on the DS3 which i didnt like at all, then i tried it with the wheel and thought it was really good, dont have a compatible wheel for ps4 though.

Im looking forward to the release but as others have pointed out, what the hell were they thinking making this course the demo? its going to turn so many noobs away. They could at least have added two courses, one easy and San Remo.

The park area is fun though

I think Dirt Rally will be better on all parts but it's also a game with à different budget. Milestone is not my favorite developer but they convinced me to purchase Superstars V8 Next and I found it awesome. SLR is due to the cars and the Rally driver almost à certain buy but I am still in doubt if I wait until it comes down in price. I like the démo but for the handling I need more time to get used to it. Surely after playing DC all the time adapting to SLR is à challenge.

I wait for the reviews and the reveil of all the features. Milestone liked my tweet about photomode but it doesn't hold any value on how advanced photomode will be.

Read "PS4 demo", decided "well, I'll give it a try". I'm not exactly too keen on another rally title from milestone but I'm willing to at least give it a chance before I really lay down my opinion.

Soooo, I can't seem to find this on the Playstation store after looking around and I'm left wondering if:

A: I need a special Email to get it (which means I need to get yahoo cued up.

B: Its not available in the US, is it?

Really hoping its not B, even though I'm slightly leaning towards that since its a rally game not by codemasters.

Well hello again :D all to busy to determine to love or to hate it?

Just had a session of about 30 minutes with the default controller setup and all aids off. Managed to get to the finish line with almost no damage and a bit more up to speed. I gave up on the external view and used the bonnet view which suited me well.

First off: The controller works just fine and the handling model seems refined.

You just can't blaze into corners, correct your braking or floor it out of a corner without thinking. The handling model obliges you to drive correctly. Once I had the track a bit in my mind and followed the indications of the corners properly I could go a lot faster. You need to line up your car before the corner and make sure that all braking is done before hand. Hold the speed and take the corner. If the corner is very tight don't floor the FWD cars because it makes you understeer to the outside of the corner. Lift of in a fast corner will oversteer your car and make it difficult to catch. You can brake into a corner but it will make your car come loose at the back. Brake distance is something to be aware of as well. There is quite a lot of distance needed to properly slow down your car!

I took the non-arcade approach this evening and the physics appreciated this a lot more. With a wheel it probably comes more natural but the same is possible with the controller. Just needs more time and one needs to get comfortable with the sense of speed.

The controller is very sensitive to input. Brakes can lock up easily. Push the left trigger not with full force but use finesse. For acceleration the same. Steering at times can be a bit nervous. Sometimes I was under the impression I would lose the car while taking a few corners flat-out but this was not the case. The car held fine and it only went wrong when I came off the throttle which started the car to swerve around. My fault not the physics.

The track for the demo makes it simply very hard. There is no room for error. Take corner to fast "hit the wall" brake to late "hit the wall" floor it to soon "hit the wall". The Sanremo stage just demands to be driven properly otherwise it severely punished you and one can write of it's car after a few corners. Even with the lightest damage setting you need to keep your driving inline.

Invest some time in the demo and I think it can get you more enthusiastic then you might think 👍

One stupid little detail jumped out at me when I tried the demo--the brake lights come on when you use the handbrake. That's a mistake more often seen in casual driving/racing games.

@doblocruiser Thanks for all the tips & Pics ^^^, The free camera isn't bad for still shots but needs tweaking and a few more options. I had another go on the wheel and I think it just needs a bit of practice and the car park was fun. It was very good of them to give a demo in the first place to get the feedback.

I love any 'Rally' or 'RallyCross' as you know but I have just been sitting quietly waiting for one on the PS4 with better 'next gen' detailing that blew me away like the original V Rally, Colin Mcrae or Dirt1 series or even Sega Rally :)...(back in the day!).. I understand the budget for Milestone is not the same as Codemasters but they have had a lot of titles under their belt now including WRC & MotoGP to know what the community want/tweak the physics etc, back grounds detail of environments etc...I will watch this thread, and VVV and see how the game evolves 👍 and will probably pick up both WRC5 and this before I give in and get all 3 including Dirt Rally (It is just nice to eventually see Rally making a little comeback!)..

@torque99 Photomode needs a lot more options 👍 It's very basic atm. Good old rally days but as you say it's good to see rally making a return to consoles with something for everyone.

True that Milestone has made quiet some titles but budgetwise it's behind the bigger players and communication hasn't been their strongest point in the past. It's seems however that they are learning as well and that communication is important. If SLR succeeds they could have a larger budget for SLR 2 and start to include some Dakar ;)

For the moment I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and I have decided that I will buy this game and support them. The session of yesterday convinced me. I had my doubts in previous posts but the more time spent with it the more it is growing on me

I haven't tried the demo because I don't have PS4/XboxOne. When Milestone release a PC Demo, I will be able to try it.

After playing a lot more of the demo, I'll get this around launch to finally have a decent rally game to play. Also, since I so far cannot get into Dirt Rally, as I don't have a capable enough PC.

Now I'm wondering, if there will be an active community around SLRE, at least until Dirt Rally for console comes out. What do you think?

And, do you think SLRE will be big and good enough, to finally earn Milestone an own entry for one of their games within the "Games" section of GTP? Or will they have to stay within the "Console & PC Gaming" anonymity... ;)

I suspect if this thread explodes at launch then it will get a separate section. If there are only a few guys talking about it at launch (like WRC5) then it won't.

At first i've tried with the pad and it felt weird ,very twichy, but when you plug the wheel (i have T300)it makes sense...i think it's gonna turn good rally game this one...
