Sébastien Loeb Rally EVO (PS4/XB1/PC) - Milestone

I'm sort of Surprised yet glad they added (what seems to be) the full release car list for us to see :) I'm not sure if they've teased all of them already on their facebook page or not.

Anyway, as for my first impressions:

Graphics. Better than I expected. I played an earlier build (it didn't have cockpit) and graphics were poor back then. They're nicely polished now. As with every 30fps game, I got used to it after a short while.

The stage was nice and tight. Offered a good challenge. Was considering switching to Automatic as I couldn't keep up at first but held on and eventually got used to it. It felt rewarding afterwards :)

(DS 4 user) I found the handling slightly stiff, but I guess that's what I should expect when playing a Milestone rally game. It doesn't feel too bad but I do have issues with the Chase cam. I just cant seem to drive well with it. I drive better with cockpit !

I normally switch around between cockpit and Chase in racing games but find spending most of my time using chase as I feel like I can see better. Cockpit is usually for fun or offline, but chase for seriousness/online :)

Anyway, just hope they tweak the animation. Not sure what exactly is off but something is. Even Alan from Team VVV mentioned this in (atleast) one of his preview videos. So I know i'm not the only one :)

Are you using a wheel or a controller?? Not tried the DS4 yet but felt great with a wheel?!
I am using a DS4. I've kept playing since I posted my + - points and my opinion has not changed.

Had quite an enjoyable faff around with the demo this morning, including an extended run on the 'playground' and doing a few circuits. I hope that replays become available for this area too with the main game as I had some spectacular slides and rolls out on the gravel portion. You can really fling it around out there.

The stage was good and tight also - going to be a struggle to master well but well worth it I feel.

The photo mode seems to have been upgraded a tad from WRC 4 with an auto focus - no filters yet though - maybe with the full game. You can get a reasonable distance away from the car too and aren't constrained by invisible walls.

Demo is okay. Graphics are good but the physics are poor. On both tarmac and dirt the car seems lifeless and immune to the undulations and imperfections of the road. Instead it just seems to glide around the track without clatter from debris too, especially on dirt.

Great car list in the second half of the video, but too many livery duplicates in the first half. It's almost as bad as PD *facepalm*

Impressions are pretty much as I expected. Good game and content but physics remain so-so. I'll probably get this when it's cheap and after I'm bored with Dirt Rally (if GT Sport hasn't already come out by then and I have forgotten about this game).

IIRC you can create custom liveries so that's probably why.

Won't bother writing my first impressions as their exactly the same as yours so quoting your post is enough.

The chase view tho, what is up with that? It's like it's a completely different physics engine!!! Sucks cause it's my view of choice for racing games, might not be a big deal to some but it's putting me off the game quite a bit especially with Dirt Rally coming soon, shame tho cause the rest is looking very impressive compared to previous milestone WRC games.

I have no problem with that, this game is also a tribute to the career of Sebastien Loeb and having his cars from each year, even when the differences are minimal is a very nice touch. Also it will help with the story element of the game.

Having similar liveries isn't taking away other cars from being in the game so I would love it if more games give us extra options like this.

Things I like:
- General layout/loading screens and presentation are excellent.
- Test drive on the demo although a quick novelty is a solid idea.
- Graphics are again pretty good.

Things I don't like:
- The cars feel like boats, you can't thrash them around and really go for it, especially on the tight twisty stage it gives you in the demo.
- Audio for the cars seems a bit half hearted, much better in other games (DiRT)
- It isn't DiRT. DiRT 2 and 3 are both better than this and how old are those games now? I know Milestone don't have the budget compared to the likes of Codemasters but if you're gonna sell a game for £50 it should be at the top of its field, this isn't.

I think the whole thing is very promising. Looks good, feels good, I think the physics are good and fun to drive whilst still feeling realistic. At the moment I can't understand people criticising the physicsz, it is a demo after all the the stage won't really represent the overall physics of the game.

Still, this is the nicest feeling really game I have played in a very very long time.

I don't mind having liveries, but they should be selectable as a paint option on the same car, not listed as multiple different cars. It just makes the car selection list look silly with so many models being the exact same.

Now if those cars are from different years and have slightly different performance characteristics then it makes sense I suppose.

They are yearly. Quite liking having the Kronos Citroen Xsara in there.

I have to agree.
With the T300 I think the physics are great. ( pro handling,no assist )
Much more sim like than WRC 5. ( nothing wrong with arcade games ;) )
Keeping the car intact while pushing is not an easy task.
The force feedback is good. ( increased the vibration to 75 ).

Just tried the demo (with a DS4) and didn't care for it at all. It has been a little while since I last played a rally game (Dirt 3 and the previous WRC game, both played and enjoyed with both pad and Logitech G25 wheel) so I didn't let me terrible driving influence my opinion - and I also tried to apply that to the demo stage, far too tight, and on tarmac, to count among my favourite types of rally stages.
However the handling simply didn't feel compelling at all to me - dull and lifeless, as I think someone else said above.

I quite liked the previous Milestone WRC games on the PS3 (as mentioned I played them with both pad and wheel), but this felt completely different and much worse - both on the tarmac stage and the dirt section of the test track - from how I remember their last couple of rally games.

I will wait for Dirt Rally on the PS4 in April. Don't think I dare take the risk on WRC 5 either, even at the current 50% discount.

Exactly my thoughts. Seems like there is a big rift between pad and wheel controls, which is unusual. Quite strange to be honest :boggled:.

Yes agreed, i should have clarified that I played the demo with the Logitech G920 wheel and the pad and the wheel was far superior in car feel.

Wow, positive impressions for me. The physics are very decent and the tight twisty stage was awesome, man I missed some rally games. The graphics are actually pretty good, it isn't DC but lets face it, what is  . FPS was decent-ish but man the replays were a stuttering mess, which is a shame because the camera angles with slow motion looks brilliant.

Photomode is well there  seriously though it's 2015, shutter speed options should be a must for racing games. Game has rewind which I don't like appreciate. What else, I'm playing using a T300 and enjoying it (although it was a bit loud after I'm done).

I'll probably be picking up a rally game now, I'll still wait to check Dirt Rally and I still need a better setup for my wheel instead of the stupid wobbly table I'm using. But kudos Mile Stone, now fix the replays as I go find out more information about this game.

Looking forward to the full game. Really enjoying the demo, especially thrashing around that good old celica 👍

Am I alone in thinking the Celica feels like a total barge? Can really tell the difference in feel to the nippy little 500.

Will test it out today but so far what I have read in here it seems quite promising.

Still I am not convinced by the carmodels and the wheels look "cheap". A very big plus are the Alfa Vulvia and the Peugeot 504 (a first time ever in a videogame) 👍

This game is absolutely dreadful with the DS4. Shame I don't have a wheel so I can actually give it a fair chance.

Have to give it to Milestone for doing wheel animation right though.

So its not just me who hated it with a pad. That WRC car was the worst of the bunch just seemed to lock up even with abs and it wouldn't turn.
