Last Monday I was coming home from my girlfriend's house and I happened to clip a small deer, only cracking the bumper and fender. I didn't think anything of it so I turned it into the insurance for them to cover the damage. After taking it to the collision shop today though I was told that the car is probably totaled because of how much parts are and how old it is. Ill know by the end of the week.
Here's the damage,

That's it, nothing mechanical even.

Probably should have kept insurance out of it with that little damage.... Gives you more the reason to turn it into an evil catfish.

I highly doubt they will total it for that damage. :dunce:
If they do, consider yourself very lucky because that's basically an instant way to make free cash off the car.

That constitutes an insurance write off? Seriously? The damage is barely noticeable

Depends on the value of the car vs parts prices. I had a 2.3 Fox body Mustang written off for a bumper cover that was hit and cracked.

I really don't want it totaled because I don't feel like having to put it through the enhanced inspection process, and the insurance won't give me much for it being that its already r-titled from 2006. I'm still waiting to hear back though :nervous:

Oh, it's already R-titled?

You're fine. The title change would be the only thing that worries me about a car being considered "totaled" from cosmetic damage.

Update: I got a call from the insurance company and they told me they tracked everything down for less than 1500 dollars, so it won't be totaled.
Also I'm picking up some winter wheels tomorrow, not looking foreward to winter.

It's beein a while since I've had anything to update on but I did get the winter wheels and tires on, they help but not enough, managed to get very stuck coming home from work sunday, it was pretty ugly. I also found out the hard way my heater core is bad, the car has no heat at all :ouch:. All in all its a worse winter car than i thought.

Its a Camaro. Clearly a car not designed for winter driving.

You said you put on your winter wheels and tires. Are the tires officially "winter" tires?? It would at least help a little but still, its a Camaro.

Yea they are v6 narrow wheels with new hankook winters on the back of it.
From what I've been told theyre alright in the snow, but I guess those people don't have hills around
Next year I'll have to have something else for winter, the snow kills my baby.

Sand bags, sand bags, sand bags.

Might as well transform it into a pickup in order to fit all the sandbags you'll need.

Even when it's just damp, I break my wheels loose all the time unintentionally in my '99 WS6. Winter driving is the last thing GM thought about when building the F-Body

Yea I knew I was going to have some trouble when it spun so bad in the rain. On the old tires I could send the car sideways in the dry at 40 mph. Im not sure why it even put heat in them. Id like to take it to the track but its pointless

Big update this time: So the damage has been fixed and I managed to get heat in the car while I was replacing the whole sound system. So it's warm and comfortable now...kind of
They didn't match the paint very well which leaves me in a predicament. I have around 400 dollars to spend and I'm not sure if I should get the paint redone, get a set of headers and y pipe, or some new wheels and tires( if you've been following yes that's three sets now I'll have).
So wwhat do you guys think?

In the real world paint is rarely perfect, I wouldn't worry about it 👍

Yes thats What everyone is telling me. I'll have to try to buff it all clean. The main goal is to have it ready for the show in Carlisle in may.

Depends on what you want to do with it. I'd personally go with the headers. But if you're taking it to a car show, I guess get some nice rims.

After a bit of convincing I've decided im going for wheels and tires, being that i have massive traction problems with the stock 245's. What good is more Power if I can't pur it down at all. What do you think would look good? I'm really leaning toward picking up a staggered set of used corvette wheels but I'm not sure on the style I want.

You really don't need giant tires up until around 1,000 horsepower. I've seen Mavericks with Turbo'd 460's run tires the size of VW bugs that pulled 11's in the 1/4. I'd go with headers.

About the paint, it's possible that the color was correct and the rest of the cars paint is faded. My GF had this problem after she busted a mirror off her car and the new one was a bit off.

Well I could get away with some good drag radials on the stock wheels and hook up but its a daily driver so some 295's on street tires will work well enough. I'll have headers at some point this summer.

It is your car, do what you like lol. Should should go with some 315's on cheater slicks in the summer lol

I have a feeling 315 cheater slicks would be the death of my rear end lol. Plus not good at all in the rain, these cars have a well deserved reputation for killing people when it gets wet.

You don't need a huge stall with a mostly stock motor. Not exactly a good thing. I'd say you wouldn't need anything more than a 2,800-3,500 stall.

I've had great experiences with Potenza's, plenty of grip in both the wet and dry and reasonable road noise - they're pricey but they just have so much grip - I can't get my car to lose traction unless I really act like a tool

I don't know if you're considering drag racing or whatnot, but for vigorous street use they're the best tyres I've used thus far.
