You know what Catalan people think about the rest of Spain! But I'm not Catalan, I from Salamanca in Castilla but born in Switzerland therefore I have the culture of neutrality:lol::sly:

The fact you were born in Switzerland explains your support for Barcelona, since it was funded by... a swiss! 💡 (Johann Gasper)

In fact, that's why Barça plays in dark red/blue shirts. Gaspers was a supporter of FC Basel himself (yes the one Federer s fanatic about) and he decided to use equal shirts for is new club (Half deep red, half blue - further developing to the vertical stripes of Barça shirts, while Basel kept the same scheme.)

WOW! I'm impressed that you know this. (Although his name was actually Hans Kamper, changed to Joan Gamper after living in Barcelona and 'going native'. )

But as my father would say, since it was the Baslers who taught the Catalons how to play football in the first place, Spain's 0-1 defeat against Switzerland should come as no surprise.

A funny, and terribly off-topic story along these lines. From as far back as I can remember, my father had this small FC Basel embelem in his car(s) held onto the back window with a tiny suction cup. Every time he got a new car, he would take the FC Basel shield out and put it in the new car. This went on for at least 15 years and 4 cars. One day, back in the late 80s, he was cleaning out his car and grabbed the thing, smashed it up and threw it in the garbage. I was shocked and horrified and asked him why he would do such a thing, more from the action against an object he held so dear for so many years rather than the allegory and wanted destruction of the symbol of his 'home' team. He looked positively disgusted and simply muttered, "Forget about them--they're going nowhere". In the last 7-8 years, and multiple championships later, he probably wishes he had kept it.

Perhaps I should buy him a new one. :)

Thank you. 👍

I am a little bit too obsessed about football () so I tend to devour as much information I can... I tried to play it back in the days of youth (I was central defender for a small local team, Estrela da Amadora) in their youth academy but, lets just say that I was as good at it as I am racing in SCC...

To finish the off-topic (and add a another one inside this one :D)... HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!! :D

Sporting_Clube_de_Portugal.png

On July 1st, 1906 José Holtremann Roquette stated "We want this club of ours to be as great as the greatest clubs in Europe", marking with those words, 104 years ago the foundation of SPORTING CLUBE DE PORTUGAL!

After more than 14,000 titles in 30 different sports, the portuguese club that had given the highest number of footballers for the national team in World Cups (24), is the third club with more european titles (22 in 4 different sports) and presences in european football cups (50), being only surpassed in both by Barcelona (66 cups / 52 European presences) and Real Madrid (26 / 53). From our club emerged 109 olympic athletes, 8 of them won medals, including the first ever portuguese gold medallist Carlos Lopes (men's marathon Los Angeles 84).

We still held 2 european record landmarks: the honour of held at home the first ever European Champions Cup (3-3 vs Partizan Beograd) and the biggest win in history of european competitions (Sporting 16 vs 1 Hapoel Limassol).

Our football youth academy is considered one of (if not the greatest) football academy in the world producing players of world wide class as Paulo Futre, Nani, Simão Sabrosa, Ricardo Quaresma and FIFA Best World Player of the Year Winners, Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Happy 104th anniversary SPORTING!

(Ok... I'll end up the off topic now...)

Hey, I'm a MOTORsports fan. First and foremost. F1, Le Mans, ALMS, and down the list from there. It's what I live for. But I do have a...passing interest in football, some tennis and maybe tid bits here or there (downhill skiing, once upon a time, hockey).

And I will say one thing about motorsports fans. You can go to a Formula 1 race and see Ferrari Fans, McLaren Fans, Williams Fans, etc, rubbing elbows and 'good natured' jibes. But in the end, they're all motorsports fans and there to watch a race. And they all respect each other and there's no need to 'separate' them into different sections so they don't kill each other. 👍 Something a lot of fans from other sports either don't realize or (mistakenly) take for a lack of passion.

i ve had a very busy week and have had no practice so far , hows everyone shaping up ?

hopefully tonight if anyones on feel free to join my lobby

Yeah, sorry I never answered your message in the SCC Social Club. But I've been quite busy myself. Since last Friday(?), I've only been able to practice once (two nights ago). Judging by that and the leaderboards, if mhm66, AlanG, new_soul, Wnabm3 & Vompatti don't show up, no new 'aces' come knocking on the door and I don't commit any major errors, I think I have a good chance. :D

My PB is still in the mid 1:52s in the dry, high 1:56s in the wet and I won't be fighting the guys in the low 1:51s. But at least I'm feeling better and more comfortable with my setup.

I think You're paying the top dogs not to show up to try to repeat your victory:sly:
But maybe, just maybe this time Alan will show up.👍:dopey:

It's me to be impressed, but jjaisli I just have two things to correct. First, Joan Gamper (who wasn't alone : in the 12 founders (and players too) of the club, there were 2 swiss, 3 english, 1 german and 6 catalans) only learned to play to Catalans:dopey:, so the defeat against Switzerland is only due to the non-catalan players of "La Roja" (spanish national team...):D:D:lol::lol::lol:

And second the actual emblem of FC Basel is this one !
120px-Logo_FC_B%C3%A2le.svg.png

Yea! They win a star by winning their 10th Swiss Cup title only two months ago! 👍👍👍:sly: They won the final 6-0 against the FC Lausanne-Sport, which plays 1 division under...:scared: Lausanne, Lausanne,...??? :idea:embarrassed:h yea but it's where I live!!!:D:D:D

This

I enjoy football but it can't compare to a day at the track, well for me anyway. You get thousands of people together, some with different allegiances, without a hint of trouble.
The above statement has nothing to do with me being a Nottingham Forest supporter and in no way can it be associated with our double european cup winning team of many years ago.
:)

Since I'm so fond of it, I just want to take this opportunity to post my livery for the 355 Challenge again. Thanks Bruno! :)

Jeff,

For your next championship it will be a pleasure to create another original livery. but it will be in August, because I'm leaving tomorrow for one month holiday on the French Riviera at 5 km of Monaco.

I live in Le Mans, I am going on holiday in Monaco ... I'll end up believing that racing legend haunt me .
More seriously, I'd love to see the F1 Grand Prix Monaco 👍

I really appreciate the offer and I may take you up on it! Thank you, Bruno. >If< there is to be a 'next' championship, it would be with the F430 Challenge and it wouldn't start until the 29th of August at the absolute earliest. But to be honest, I'm not sure if I will continue with these events after the 355 series ends. They're a lot of fun and I have a good time with it. But it does take a lot of work and as series organizer, I feel compelled to always be there, no matter what. And in doing so, I'm really neglecting certain things (at home). So I'll have to see how it goes.

I thought (once) about going to Monaco for the Grand Prix. But when I priced airfare, hotel (not even in Monaco but in Niece), race tickets, local transportation, food, etc...well, let's just say, it would be cheaper to fly first class and spend a very lavish 4 weeks traveling around Australia in 4 star accommodations. Not that I have the money for either at the moment. :sly:

Have a nice vacation and enjoy yourself!

I just wanted to post ONE more reminder for this event, taking place today, immediately following the Paraguay~Spain World Cup Match. If you're not on my friend list and want to join, make sure to send me a PSN message.

it is realy hard to folow what is going on here, with all that of topic in this tread...

i did not notice the saturday start date.

I'm sorry for the confusion new_soul. The date was changed to Saturday the 3rd more than a month ago and has been highlighted on the first page in this thread in red, ever since. When in doubt, always go back to page one as I always make any changes there.

I made this post back on May 28th to highlight the change: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=127642&page=2#post3869112

I've also made 2 additional posts about it, including a full race preview, had a flag running on my PSN avatar for more than 2 weeks with the date and the very title of this thread (in the subject line) shows "next race July 3rd!" I also sent a PSN message to all of the series regulars.

None-the-less, let's just say, this event left much to be desired from my perspective. There was a low turnout as many people had plans and while it was nobody's fault I suffered some of the worst lag I ever experienced in this game. It was horrible. Henrik and I were fighting for the lead for the first 4 laps and at the start of lap 6, lag pushed me forward--wham, suddenly 50-kmh faster, straight into the wall, bounced off, spun around and landed on the track against the inside wall of turn one and had to wait for the whole field to go by before it was safe to move. I then had several other lag induced incidents throughout the rest of the race, once behind bullie when I hit him, once when he hit me and I also hit Redgate as well. :indiff: To add insult, Bullie was booted from the lobby during the 2nd race. :( If this had been my first experience with this game it would have turned me off completely.

I'll write my full review either later today or tomorrow. Hope to see you for the next one.

EDIT: Here's what happened. And I want to be clear, in no way do I 'blame' Henrik for this. When I was racing behind him, as you'll see when I edit the rest of my video, I hit him at least 3 times as his car was jumping all around. :grumpy::ouch::irked:

From this incident, I can only say I'm amazed that everybody else was able to avoid me. 👍

Hi
Thanks to Jeff for his patience under some horrible conditions. It was by far the worst lag
I've ever had seen in this game. And I'm very sorry that when I hit Jeff it took him out
from a sure podium finish.
At the start of the race I had a hard time getting away from Jeff, bacause every time I got ahead,at the next corner the lag made his car jump 50 m or so,so I had to take some
unusual lines. But as long as It lasted it was a great fight. When I hit him I slowed and let him by so we went from 1st and 2th to be last.I was able to work my way back up front
and pass Derek on the last lap,but it was hard but fun.

In the sprint race I started last and it's very difficult to get safely by people when there's lag and rain.Whedn I got to 2th place Jeff was 10 sec ahead and I could see
from our laptimes that it was going to be close. When I finaly got close to him on the last lap,he made a mistake down the back straight(dont look back when driving)and I won by 3 sec.
I'm sorry that I dont have video.House full of guests.

Event No 2 - July 3rd, 2010 - 20:00 GMT - Hockenheimring - RACE RECAP

I want to thank those who participated in the 2nd round of the '1996' Ferrari F355 Challenge season from Hockenheim as well as apologize again to those who were caught out by the change of date and finally express my appreciation for any non-soccer/football fans who indulged the rest of us in the delay until the world cup match was over.

I normally take this opportunity to thank everybody for the clean racing exhibited and good sportsmanship observed. But in this case, I think everybody deserves a special mention because driving under these circumstances was nothing less than a horror show. I've noticed once or twice, particularly at Mugello during the 348 race, that a car or two momentarily exhibited strange lag where it seemed to shoot forward or backward 20 meters. During this race at Hockenheim it happened regularly and trying to figure out where other cars where was sometimes all but guesswork. I don't know whether this was because of the change to Saturday and there were simply more people logged onto the PSN or it was just a day with poor throughput and seek times from my connection or somebody else's. I did a ping test and speed test after the event and I found nothing unusual. And as always, I went through the trouble to hard wire my connection and re-sync my router and modem before the event. I guess yesterday was just, "one of those days." And we'll have to hope it was simply an anomaly.

QUALIFYING: 2 laps - conditions 50% dry/wet chosen at random

I flipped a coin and tails meant it was wet qualifying for the 2nd time. I was able to set a relatively clean lap until the final 2-corner complex where I lost ~ 1 full second, but it was still enough to put me 3rd on the grid. Turnupdaheat had a problem with his controller so he had to leave the lobby and voluntarily pushed himself back to last for the start of the race.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RACE 1 (Feature Race): - 20 Laps - Dry

I made a decent start for this race and was going to try and take arvore up the inside around turn 1. I was just entering the turn and was tapped from the right rear quarter. At the time I didn't realize but I may have then inadventernly side swiped arvore in that corner. Or he may have gone wide after making contact with mhm. The view from my car, the speed at which is happens and the lag makes it difficult to tell.

From that point on, and for the next 5 laps, I had a dice with Henrik with several other drivers, including FINGERSANDTHUMBS, kemp1010 & tunrupdaheat, all putting a nose in here or there. Sometimes, quite literally. :) On the very first lap, down the long straight toward the hairpin, mhm66's car suddenly slowed down while I was drafting him and I realized that lag was going to be a problem. I tried my best to be careful with my lines and not to get too close to him, but I think I touched him at least twice more and I know he was having similar problems because he also touched me several times from behind, once knocking me slightly off the road at the Mercedes
Arena, but graciously waiting for me to regain the position and allow turnupdaheat to get by momentarily as well.

At this point, I was already growing frustrated and wondered if others up and down the field were experiencing the same horrible lag as henrik and I were. I really get little enjoyment racing under these circumstances because it becomes more an exercise in 'walking on eggs' around the field and you can't really drive and race others in an aggressive (but fair) way. :indiff:

As I already mentioned in my post above, at the beginning of lap 6, the weird lag which seemed to happen on every lap, just before braking for turn one, caused havoc. My screen momentarily froze, Henrik hit me from behind and I shot forward, into the wall, bounced off, spun around and bounced back onto the track, and ended up backwards, against the wall on the inside of turn 1. Credit to both mhm & turnupdaheat who were able to avoid me. I'm sure it looked pretty spectacular from the outside. And of course had this been a real accident, or let's say, if this game modeled damage properly, I would not have been able to continue the race. But as this incident was not really my fault or anybody else's, I was glad to continue. I finally got moving again in last place and met Henrik a km or so up the road, who was patiently waiting for me like a true gentlemen.

Unfortunately, lag problems continued for me. Trying to get around bullie, I twice knocked him a bit off line and thought it was unfair to complete the pass and hesitated. And when I finally got around him, he knocked me off the track in the corner going into the Mercedes arena and it took me a few seconds to get back onto the road. I'm sure, as with Henrik, this was not his fault and it was down to lag as 3 different people hit me from behind at this spot. I was taking my usual line and had no such problems in practice.

By this point, I was more than 7 seconds behind Redgate but was able to catch up after a few laps. Unfortunately, some lag at the first corner, in the same spot Henrik hit me, put me off and I hit him from behind and forced him wide into the gravel. I backed off and waited for him but the result was more wasted time for both of us. I did manage to pass him a lap later but with about 7-8 laps left, Kemp was >12 seconds in front of me and I didn't think it was possible to catch him anymore.

On the final lap, he and Arvore changed places and I was slowly reeling them in. I finished the race about 0.30 behind Arvore (and even though the game showed me finishing in 5th place, it was clear to me he was ahead). But once again, this shows just how bad the lag was.

All credit to mhm66, who not only slowed down and voluntarily put himself in last place because of our incident, but then when on to romp through the field and finish first, passing tunrupdaheat on the very last lap. Well done. And that tenacity shows why he's leading this series. My hat is off to him.

RACE 2 (Sprint Race): 15 Laps - Wet

Going into the Sprint Race, I thought I would have a much better chance considering I was starting near the front of the field and Henrik was starting near the back. And the start was indeed pretty good, as I managed to get around Arvore (who my have let me by?) and Redgate, and entered turn one right behind the leader.

I had a chance to get around bullie at the hairpin but the lag and uncertainty of my braking point in the wet made me hesitate. He eventually made a mistake at the Mercedes Arena and I was able to get by. But it seemed like chaos was taking place in my rear view mirror with at least 3 other cars going off the track in this spot. I can see it in the video but during the race, I was only paying attention to the track in front of me.

By the time mhm66 appeared in 2nd behind me, I had built up a lead of about 9 seconds. I had hoped to try and maintain it, as when things were equal and we were both 'on it' he was only about 0.3 a lap faster. But a series of small mistakes here or there meant every 3rd lap he was closing on me by 2-3 seconds. :grumpy: When you race a guy like henrik, you can't afford ANY mistakes.

I was so nervous about the lag, and my mistakes were making me so frustrated, that I kept looking back to see where mhm was (2 laps from the end) and I misjudged the kink down the straight and drove straight onto the grass at > 200 kmh. I kept it together but by the time I reached the braking zone, Henrik was > 3 seconds up the road. :dunce::grumpy: At that point, the car in 3rd was more than 30 seconds behind me. Knowing Henrik was slightly faster and much more consistent, I didn't bother to fight it and just coasted to the finish line, at least consolidated something.

Mmh66 puts in another dominant showing, taking first place in both the feature and sprint race. Turnupdaheat shows that he lost very little of his speed, despite his limited practice and time away from this game. And Fingersandthumbs continues his impressive display of speed and consistency

I can only say, after all these problems, I'm glad to put this event behind us. Hopefully, newcomer Redgate will be back with the knowledge that the lag and issues in this round was a bit of an anomaly and not typical of what we run into during these races. I thank those for coming and participating and in two weeks, we'll be back to our regular Sunday time. See you in Silverstone.

My setups for this race were:

Camber: -3.96 front / -3.10 rear
Ride height: -0.30 front / +0.30 rear
Springs: hard front / soft rear
Dampeners: hard front / soft rear
Toe: +0.3 front / -0.3 rear
Sway Bar: hard front / hard rear

Well last night was indeed pretty hectic...not that I saw much of the typical shooting back and forward of other cars but in my screen lag was having a stupid stutter effect, freezing the screen for a fraction of second when entering some corners especially in Nordkurve and at the hairpin.:indiff:

For the first time, I think,I did a pretty good qualifying and for my surprise I got the second place(Jeff apparently had troubles and did 1 more second than usual).

I started well the race approached Henrik and sticked to the outside line in the first turn thinking that there would be space for both...but there wasn't and we made side by side contact which made me loose speed and on the edge of going off track...but than Jeff who had take the inside gave me another touch that decisively pushed me into the grass:ouch:

So from 2nd to 7th in one corner...I was able to reach 5th place and by lap four for my surprise I found Jeff facing backwards in the inside of turn one and a few meters ahead Henrik at cruise speed waiting for him,I concluded that some incident between them had occurred,so I was behind Derek(1st place) and Fingers(2nd).At this point I thought I had a chance to catch them because I knew both had little practice...but I have to take my hat down to those two who were fast and above all very consistent:tup:
For several laps I chased Fingers eating the gap from 3 to 2 seconds and then 3 again;1,20; 2,40 ; 3,10,etc...every time I got close Fingers was able to recover,I was always seeing him but unable to reach him(very good race You're a very cool headed driver and indifferent to the pressure,I wish I could do that.)
5 or 6 laps to the end of the race Kemp was 6 secs behind and I thought I had to push harder to have any chance of catching Fingers in a result I went wide at turn 7(first S section)-the Mercedes Arena- and the next thing I knew I had Kemp breathing on my neck:scared: .Kemp closely chased me for a few laps and made me push hard(did my best lap in the 19 lap...and when I thought I had secure the 4th place I pushed the looking back button to check his position and missed the breaking point for the 1st S section before the Mobilkurve:dunce: handing him the position and almost got overtook by Jeff who was close behind-which he had managed to do if the track had an extra 100 meter!!!:ouch:

I was 3rd in the wet race starting line up(since the computer assumed Jeff had overtook me in the dry race) so I assumed the 4th place after the start, entering the hairpin I was 3rd but gave the Inside line to Kemp to overtake me and his car slipped a little bit at the exit of the corner pushing me out:ouch: (I know it was unintentional mate no worries:tup: ) but shortly after at the Mercedes Arena Bullie,Kemp and Derek went off...I seemed to be sucked into that vortex and went a little wide and Redgate overtook me,but after some dicing with him(sorry for some contact mate)I managed to sneak to 2nd place and built what I thought it was a comfortable gap(+/- 9 secs) to the 3rd place(at that point Dereck I think) but then came the Nordic Nightrider:) and quickly catched up with me and overtook me.Again I made the stupid mistake of trying to keep up to his pace, should have known better by now-which I obviously can't:dunce: and cause me to make a stupid mistake-where else than Mercedes Arena? So I tried to keep the 6 second gap to Fingers(that was again pulling very consistent laps) and finished 3rd

hi to everybody 👍
I would have liked to participate to the tournament ,jjaisli compliments for the organization 👍👍.
unfortunately family and physical problems prevent me :guilty:
I can give my contribution creating a small video ?

you excuse use me a translator I hope not to write wrong words :ill:

ciao ciao

Really enjoyed the racing last night thanks to jjaisli for organising everything. I'm now wondering if the lag was caused by my PS3(60gb launch model) which died today, won't even turn on and i didn't back up my saves :grumpy:
On the plus side i phoned the shop where i bought it from and they offered to give me the full trade in price(£140) against a 250gb slim, needless to say i accepted and am in the process of re-downloading everything.
No apologies needed from anyone who hit me last night i hit a few people myself and it seems lag was to blame for most of it. Anyway looking forward to the next one if i can make it.
👍

Before I forget, this was my setup for Hockenheim:
Dampers: hard/soft
Springs: soft/soft
Roll Bars: hard/hard
Ride Height: -0.030/+0.030
Camber: -4.00/-3.20
Toe: Default/-0.05

I did about 15 laps of Silverstone yesterday afternoon. This is going to be a challenge for me. I've never had a good feeling around Silverstone and always seem to be taking the wrong line around some corners. But after a few laps it was starting to come together. Relatively speaking. Either way, it was clear that the setup above...will need some adjustment to allow me to really work this track. And there's time to be gained in places.

There is obviously still a bug in the leaderboards as the top 3 times at Silverstone in the 355 Challenge are in the 1:48~1:49 range which is, in a word, impossible. But I'm guessing new_soul, AlanG or Henrik will drop their PB into the low 2:00s by the eve of the race.

I'm sorry you're unable to attend the races Pino. Hopefully at some point you can join in. My comment about the video was that there seems to be a problem live-linking videos from Youtube. For some reason it's not working and I don't know why. Honestly, there wasn't too much interesting to see this round. :guilty:

If anybody wants to the see the videos, they can visit my YouTube page: http://www.youtube.com/jjaisli

I don't think this was the cause, Redgate. And it sounds like others weren't suffering nearly as badly so I'm guessing it was mainly an issue between mhm66 and me, with a slow ping time or data loss. But because of the P2P system, we all suffered to some extent.

And I'm of course sorry to hear your PS3 died today. I would of course go for the slim deal as well. Hopefully you have some sort of backup and won't need to progress through again in the next two weeks. I think somebody posted a game save if you need it. And either way, I hope you'll join us again.

Yes that's true! I mentioned it with Mário this weekend.

Haven't really got into the practice seriously but at the moment my times are at 2:05:90.

I hope to make the next one and i'm going to play through challenge mode again. Thanks for the tip on the game save i might need it depending on how far i get.

good races saturday night guys

the first race was ok and i managed to slip into second place on the first lap slipping on the inside of jj on the hairpin , but then like a fool had too long a look in rear view and missed the very next turn which made me go into the next corner too fast and i could see that it was either going to be the kitty litter or rear end mhm so i chose the kitty litter .
that left me in 7th but managed to break back into 4th after a few laps until i found the reckage at turn 1 when jj had his glitch i managed to ovoid jj but found the rear bumper of turnupdaheat , i would have been able to go in front of him but im not sure but the yellow flags were on my screen . so stayed in position.(i assume we are not overtaking on yellow flags)
the rest of the race i was in 2nd spot and thinking i might just make it to the finnish line before mhm caught me , that was wishfull thinking as he caught me with a lap or 2 to spare and was more than happy to be in 3rd place and make my first ever podium finnish . albeit in a small field with alot of the faster people having lag problems and missing but i will take it . (i love the taste of champagne)
race 2 i found myself in last position after the first corner but made my way through the field making a few mistakes along the way , i made the same mistake again with the rear view and missed my breaking point completely and ended up in the kitty litter, but luckily enough most of the field was making mistakes also and ended up 4th (alas no champagne)

i liked the track , the car and cant wait for the next race on home soil

Yeah, Silverstone is one of the bug tracks, in terms of the times appearing on the leaderboard. I think it's a server-side problem. My 333SP Nurburgring lap was around 10 seconds faster than possible (I think this was before the latest wipe), yet my locally stored time was the actual one. So at some point when the database is updated, with particular circuits, something goes wrong.

For Silverstone F355, consistent high 2'00 would be race winning pace I believe. Of course, keeping it on the track with high 2'00s/low 2'01s for the race duration is worth being a bit off the ultimate pace.

I'd say a high 1'59 is possible. In saying that, I thought mid 1'56 was the limit in Hockenheim, but then someone put in a 1'56.0, which I can't quite understand! (maybe a bit of slipstream or something? Either way still a great lap).

In the wet,right?
Or was there a typo and You meant 1,51?
Either way Your mid 1,51 it's definitely the best possible(for you, others like me can add at least one second to that) without going completely off track in the run off areas at Mobilkurve and Stadium Arena.:sly:

Henrik's fastest race lap at Hockenheim was a 1'51.7!

Anyway, thanks to all for a very enjoyable night's racing on Saturday. If someone told me beforehand that I would finish the first race in second position less than a second behind Henrik I would have told them they were mad! Of course, the fact that Jeff and Henrik were involved in "the incident" and that there were a large number of regulars unavailable on the night did make it easier for me!

The evening didn't start too well for me when I had to drop out of qualifying and start at the back of the grid but I managed to make good progress on the 1st lap. First of all Bullie and Arvore went off at the first corner, then I managed to slip inside and pass Redgate at the hairpin and two corners later when Fingersandthumbs went off I found myself in 4th position behind Kemp. 4th became 3rd on lap 2 when Kemp went wide at the hairpin and as far as I was concerned I didn't expect to progress any further as I couldn't match the outright speed of Jeff and Henrik. But, as happens when two closely matched drivers fight for position, they slowed each other enough for me to close in on them.

Of course, the fact that they had to deal with lag also helped my cause and by the time we reached the start of lap 5 and the guys became embroiled in "The Incident" I was only about a second behind Henrik. I had a very dramatic view of what happened and it was clear from the way that Jeff's car was catapulted off the track that lag was the cause. Henrik slowed immediately and I passed him on the left and began to turn in to the first right hander. At this stage Jeff's car was spinning wildly back across the track and the gap was closing rapidly but I just managed to squeeze through the gap without losing any time.

I'm a little confused by blown540's account of this because he say's that he then found himself on my bumper and that he could have passed me but from my point of view I presumed he was held up slightly because I found myself out on my own and the gap between us had stretched to a little over 5 seconds! Strange!! :odd:

After that it was a case of driving as steadily as I could to maintain the gap but I made a few small mistakes and by the time lap 19 came around the gap was around 3 seconds and then I saw the second place name change to mhm66. All of a sudden in my head I could hear the music from "Jaws" as he closed in on me!! :nervous: I'm afraid I let the pressure get to me and I had a slight off and caught the sand at the first corner on the final lap. This allowed Henrik to close up and he got a good run on me and passed me on the way down to the hairpin. The rest of the lap was very close but I couldn't find a way past and I finished 0.8 of a second behind. It was a great recovery drive Henrik. Congrats!

I started the second race in 7th and had a good start which brought me up to 5th place behind Arvore and Kemp on the run down to the hairpin. The guys had a coming together when Kemp went a bit deep into the corner and I tried to nip passed the two of them but I only managed to pass Arvore and I tucked in behind Kemp. Unfortunately, at the next right hand corner I stupidly missed my braking point after I had a quick glance behind to see where Arvore was and I slammed into the back of Kemp which sent us both into the sand. I recovered pretty quickly and waited for Kemp to get going again and pass me but judging by the text chat after the race it was clear I ruined his race and he was very angry about it.

The rest of the race was a bit of a blur and with people going off here and there I managed to get back to 4th (I may even have been in 3rd at one stage) but arvore and fingersandthumbs were just that bit quicker than me and Henrik and Jeff were on a different planet so after little practice I was pretty happy with 5th position and 2nd overall for the meeting.

I hope you'll forgive me soon Kemp!:)
