Hi Redgate! So long as there's room in the lobby, yes of course you're welcome to join in. There is no sign up sheet but while I do give priority to those who have taken part in past events but I don't think we're quite full. Just familiarize yourself with the rules (page 1), remember that first I'll invite you into the text chat before the race lobby, and keep in mind that the start will likely be delayed due to the world cup game. Hope to see you there! You're on my friend list so if I see you on-line you'll hear from me.

Nice one, i've raced with a few here on SSV8NC, looking forward to some more good battles. :)

ride height: front max high (+.30) / rear max low (-.30)
springs: front soft / rear hard
dampers: front hard / rear soft
camber: doesn't really matter
toe: front -.25 / rear +.25
sway bars: front soft / rear hard

Hah. The classic drifter setup.

im geting gray hair from driving the 355:ouch::grumpy:

:indiff: I'm with you on this... I like the car but... my driving (in)ability is completely driving me mad in Hockenheim!

I tried the mos different setups and not even if the government published a law about it I think I'd drop from 1'55 (1'55''14 to be accurate). And somehow the proble to me is how I get "connected" to the car. Let give you an example - for fun I grab the 348 Challenge for a few laps at Hockenheim. The top leaderboard for this car is a higi 1'51'', slightly slower than the one for the F355 Challenge. Without changing the setup (tuned to Mugello), on the first - BAM! - low 1'54''...:grumpy: How frustrating is that?

The car is a bit more prone to oversteer. But it certainly has more 'sophisticated' suspension movement than say the 348. I think it's a real ball of fire. It's lively. And it can be a lot of fun to drive.

Of course, I'm not biased. :D

I also love the way this car behaves(and sounds:D ),although I also liked the 348 handling very much I think the gearbox in the 355 is more accurate and the suspensions feel more realistic but it's definitely harder to tune:indiff:

Hey ... why is our king's coat of arms ...

avatar128032_6.gif

... being displayed in gtplanet? :D

Nice, bullie, brings a tear to my eyes ;) 👍

Bullie is the King of Portugal???:eek::eek::dopey: You don't say! I never would have thought. But why else would he have the Royal Seal as his Avatar?

LOL that'll explain my slowlyness on the track... it's the crown's weight!

That is not the royal coat of arms of Portugal. Actually it's a simplified version of Portugal's Seal (armas menores) which is present in our flag. To be complete (armas maiores) it miss the two golden olive branchs tied up in a red and green thread.

bandeira-de-portugal.gif

There's a purpose on why the flag is this way:

The 5 "quinas" (blue small shields) are the 5 mourish kings defeated by D. Afonso Henriques in Ourique Battle (1139).
The 5 white spots inside each "quina" are the representation of Christ's 5 wounds.
The 7 castles are the fortified cities D. Afonso Henriques conquered to the Mourish.
The Sphere (Armilar sphere) it's the world discovered by portuguese navigators in the VX and XVI centuries.
The green is hope.
The red is courage and the portuguese who have died in combat.

The Portuguese royal seal (the latest) would be this:

Yes. Slightly more oversteer. Much better suspension. Better gearing (348 has an awful 2nd->3rd gap). To be honest, I can't understand how people can love the 348 and hate the 355; relatively speaking, there's very little difference between them. In fact, I would say the 348 is more difficult because it's very awkward on the curbs.

WOW what a great football match can wake up our most depth and secular patriotic spirits(who better than the Spanish to accomplish that desiderate :D

That reminds me of this times:

When we use to kick their a$$e$ on a daily basis...:sly:

The flag You see in the picture is this one though:

Slow down there boys, you may just be 'sharing' the World Cup with your Iberian neighbors in 2018. :D And I suppose in about 6 hours from now, we'll know just how palatable this idea is to one side...or the other.

There's a saying that states:

"De Espanha, nem bons ventos nem bons casamentos."
"From Spain, neither good winds or marriages."

So, likely, if we get the WC2018 with them, we'll end up screwed...

@Arvore:

Ahhh.. those good o'days where we beat the hell up out the spanish...

The rebellion of beating up your mother, telling your cousin (the king) to go to hell, and start beating the **** out of the mourish you'd find down right until the Algarve (nobody should stay between a man and his beach!). Or having single a woman to beat up the whole spanish siege on her city and baking them alive in the bread's oven... ahhh (nostalgic sigh) ... or dividing the world in two with the spanish... "this half is yours to play, this one is mine..." ... aaaahhhhh... (another nostalgic sigh, deeper)

And to think of what we are now... aaahhhhh... what a bunch of stupid incompetents we are... :grumpy:

On friday, I will only practice at Hockenheim for the saturday 355ch races.

Oh man. I read this in the other thread and I got scared. "kemp must've wrote it wrong, right, right!" Then I make my way into this thread and check it out only to notice that this weeks race is indeed on saturday instead of sunday. I can't believe my luck, I'm not at home on saturday. I'm coming back on sunday. Argh!! :banghead:

I'd love to hear what kemp has to say about your post :D

Hahaha, judging by the badge of a certain football club I've seen in one of his SCC cars, likely he wouldn't disagree with it globally

Seriously, these are those kinds of blablabla we get to before these big derbys between two rivals. I already talked to him and got the chance to congratulate him for a deserved win.:)

I already talked to him and got the chance to congratulate him for a deserved win.:)

Yes, and I can confirm as I was there to hear it. Judging only from your earlier post, I wasn't sure if you were referring to Spain's yr 1580 invasion or the recent world cup game. ;)

BTW, nice practicing with you guys last night. I think I'm going to stick with this setup. It seems to (generally) be a nice, comfortable compromise, not as ultimately quick as it could be but certainly fast enough and relatively stable in both wet and dry conditions.

And sorry to hear you won't be able to join us Vompatti. I had changed the date to Saturday more than a month ago. I tried to highlight it in red as well because I know this is an unusual change.

Willkommen im Hockenheimring
germanflag.gif

And welcome to the 2nd round of the "1996" Ferrari F355 Challenge Season from the Hockenheim circuit in Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany.

Ferarri_challenge.png

This event is scheduled to start at 20:00 GMT on Saturday, 3rd July, 2010 at 20:00 GMT. HOWEVER, due to the world cup (Paraguay ~ Spain) quarter final, the start will probably be delayed by approx. 30 minutes ~ 1 hour, so please keep this in mind. Hopefully this will give everybody the opportunity to watch the game and set up their PS3.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

QUALIFYING: 2 laps - conditions 50% dry/wet chosen at random
RACE 1 (Feature Race): - 20 Laps - Dry
RACE 2 (Sprint Race): 15 Laps - Wet

Circuit_Hokenheimring.png

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This information is already posted on the first page but I'm also reposting it here for the convenience of any newcomers. If you're not familiar with the rules for this event, please read carefully! Please also remember that GTPlanet's OLR Rules apply. Please click here to read them in their entirety. Some of the rules listed do not apply specifically to this game. But most of them should be simple common sense. I should also point out, since it's easy to run wide at the final two corners and gain extra time without incurring a red lap, OLR rules state that you must keep at least two wheels on the track surface at all times. Running wide at this corner is NOT permitted. I accept that this can happen, especially when racing side by side with another car. But if I repeatedly see somebody blatantly running wide at this complex in an effort to maintain momentum and gain extra time, it will result in a loss of race points.

I will first open a PSN Text Chat room under my PSN ID: jjaisli approximately 5~10 minutes before the event starts and will first send invites to those on my buddy list who are on-line and have expressed an interest in joining this series. You must first join the text chat to take part in the race. If anybody new would like to join, provided there's space in the lobby (16 players or less), you're more than welcome. Just send me a PSN message and I'll send you an invite in return. However, considering the points will carry over from one event to the next, I would like to encourage those who want to join this series to try and show up for every race. Once everybody is securely in the text chat room, I will open a private lobby in Supercar Challenge and then send invites to those already in the text chat window.

LOBBY CONDITIONS
TC: Off
ABS: Off
SC: Off
RL: Off
Transmission: Automatic (which will allow you to choose manual, semi or full auto)
Collisons: Off after penalty except during qualifying (see below for details)
Penalties: unlimited
Setup Restrictions: NONE! You're free to set up the car as you wish.
Grid Order: * see below

QUALIFYING

We will have a two lap qualifying session before the feature race in order to determine grid order. For the first lap, please start off immediately to avoid a penalty but then drive moderately until you build a gap of a least 4~5 seconds to the car in front of you. However, I ask that the first person on the grid, set off at a 'quick' pace to avoid stragglers on his flying lap, who are still trying to build a gap. The second time time across the start/finish line will be your one and only qualifying lap. Collisions will be off during qualifying. If for some reason you have an accident or fall off the track, PLEASE continue your lap and do not go back to the lobby. The following Sprint Race will be run in reverse finishing order from the feature race! Qualifying could be run in either wet or dry conditions and will be chosen at Random before the event starts. Keep it on the track and try to avoid RED laps, which will relegate you to the back of the grid.

POINTS
Points will be awarded as follows:
Feature Race
1st place: 25 points
2nd place: 20 points
3rd place: 16 points
4th place: 13 points
5th place: 11 points
6th place: 10 points
7th place: 9 points
8th place: 8 points
9th place: 7 points
10th place: 6 points
11th place: 5 points
12th place: 4 points
13th place: 3 points
14th place: 2 points
15th place: 1 point
With an additional 1 point going to the fastest lap holder.

Sprint Race
1st place: 12 points
2nd place: 10 points
3rd place: 8 points
4th place: 6 points
5th place: 5 points
6th place: 4 points
7th place: 3 points
8th place: 2 points
9th place: 1 points
With an additional 1 point going to the fastest lap holder. Watch your red lines. ;)

As a final word of warning, especially to any newcomers. Larger lobbies almost always suffer some kind of connection problem, the most common being 2 or more players not being able to successfully connect together in the lobby. However, there is a work-around. I encourage EVERYBODY to read through this thread and take appropriate steps. Even if you believe your connection is fast/secure/quick/trouble free, etc, you may unwittingly be preventing somebody else from joining.

And with this, I would like to pay sad tribute to what's left of the 'real' Hockenheim...

2404543914_49829d7ab4.jpg

There was once a portion of track through here. And I have fond memories of F1 cars blasting through this very spot at > 360 km/h. And with sad reverence, it's hard not to look at this spot and think of the late, great, Jim Clark.

Since I'm so fond of it, I just want to take this opportunity to post my livery for the 355 Challenge again. Thanks Bruno! :)

See you soon... :)👍

Yeah we kind of figured that out yesterday night...:indiff::sly:👍

Wow. I never realised that they completely destroyed the old track. They seem happy to remove all traces of any kind of previous circuit. There are some photos on Google Earth placed around the circuit showing the way it is now. That's a bit sad. I loved that old circuit.

Yes, I'm still a bit broken up about it. The move to redesign the track came about through pressure from F1 officials. They did have some legitimate concerns. The length of the track (7 km) meant having adequate safety officials, fire marshals, and even track side cameras was a genuine problem. I know Sid Watkins even mentioned getting the medical car to the far side of the track quickly enough in a life or death situation was a worry. And from a commercial perspective, they complained that even F1 cars took so long to circumnavigate the course that spectators in the stadium section didn't see enough of them. And even back then, Bernie was threatening it's place on the calendar with Asian circuits.

When the plan to redesign the course came about, it meant cutting down a lot of trees. And the compromise with the Baden-Wuerttenberg government and the green party meant tearing up the old track and planting trees in it's place. And the result is as you see it in the photo I posted above. All evidence of the 'old' circuit (1965--2001) is slowly disappearing as if it never existed. So much history, gone forever. :( Frankly, I never understood this compromise and I thought it would have been fun to have some race series or classic car events run on the old circuit, just at the Nurburging exists with the Nordshleife and the Grand Prix Circuit, or a combination of the two. But I suspect the agreement to appease the greens, simply meant some sort of financial assistance or kick-backs.

Perhaps even more ironic, the increased sanctioning fees for F1 events and the cost of the reconstruction have all but bankrupt the circuit. In the end, it would have been much cheaper to employ more track marshals and an additional medical car and staff. There's no doubt that the new circuit has produced some great races. But the old circuit was a true test of horsepower. Like Monza, the last of an old vintage that never lost it's edge. And the low drag wing configurations necessary to give them top end speed meant cars that were truly unruly in the low speed stadium--certainly much more so than the current design.

I was at the (old) circuit years ago but not during an actual race. And the track itself was closed so I only caught glimpses here or there through the catch fence. I know I'm hopelessly nostalgic and romantic about these things. But one day I'd like to return and if there's still a way to find it, retrace the old lines through the forest unbrush, as the sound of V12s, V10s, V8s, screaming against the rev limiter, echo through my mind...

Yeah, no problem, you did all you could to make us notice the change 👍 I did notice it back then when you informed about it but I simply didn't remember anymore. And after two missed races I was so excited to get back on track with you guys that realizing the fact that I would miss this one too was a bit annoying :ouch: Well, there's always next race.

So, likely, if we get the WC2018 with them, we'll end up screwed...
No problem, I think we have enough stadiums to do it ourselves:dunce:

You mean this one (the first livery I ever made...)
348challenge24092441.jpg

You know what Catalan people think about the rest of Spain! But I'm not Catalan, I from Salamanca in Castilla but born in Switzerland therefore I have the culture of neutrality:lol::sly:

For the story, Castilla is one of the homes of the Real Madrid fans but my team always been the Barça, since I know what football is (approximately at the same time I could stay on my legs:sly:). And the reason why I m an alien for my family (they all support the Madrid...:yuck:) has one name : MARADONA!!! (He was playing in Barcelona and was my idol!!!):bowdown:El Pibe de Oro:bowdown:
Game?!:grumpy: What game?!:grumpy:
No, no the World Cup is not over!!!:D:rolleyes: Ok I ll stop talking now or I will be in big trouble in the next race with the Lusitanian warriors:scared:

And I take this opportunity to show my 355 Challenge livery, but due to my lack of creativity:rolleyes: I took the Paul Prideaux's 355 livery as example (it means the second livery I ever made and this one took me really a lot of time to do it and I can say I'm really satisfied with it) :

Well, you've been given enough flak already, so I won't comment on this. :) And anybody who knows what a sarcastic animal I truly am, understands just what kind of restraint I'm showing here.

VERY nicely done! 👍 When you spend some time in the livery editor and realize just how difficult it can be, you really gain appreciation for the small touches and little details and how much time and patience it takes to put something like this together.

And yes, I noticed in the last race and reviewing the video that two of you had the same livery. I was really confused by this at first. My initial thought was you were both using one of the pre-made liveries but that would mean you were running stock settings and that didn't seem right. Then I wondered if it was some sort of team effort. But this clears up the mystery--just a coincidence. 👍

I won't be able to participate in the Hockenheim race - I have to take my visiting parents to the airport that afternoon.
