You have to read the fine print in my post above:

I have to tell you, working with layer restrictions is horrible. :yuck: I had spent a lot of time and put such detailed work in the Patron wording with black lines and shadow. But it took up over 40 layers. :indiff: So I had to get rid of most of it. I was under the misguided impression that if you grouped content together it would be treated as 1 layer.

I also wanted to do a scaled down version of "Patron" on the side of the car. But (1) I again had a problem with too many layers and had to reduce the detail. Which in the end, didn't look as nice. And then (2) I had a problem grouping it and then resizing it. For some reason there was a bug and it would not allow me to resize it on the side of the car no matter how many times I redid it. It was almost the size of the bee on the side and it looked ridiculous. I was working on it long into the night and I finally just gave up. What's more, I also had no room for a Michelin logo and some other Ferrari Challenge Series logos I wanted to put on the side. :indiff: Much of what I set out to accomplish didn't work simply because of the layer limits. Quite frustrating. But in the end, it probably looks much cleaner, much nicer like this, more like an art car and less like a moving advertisement as most race cars do. And of course, I preferred to have your bee than my Patron lettering. As an afterthought, I put it in the side window, which I guess looks OK but it wasn't the effect I was hoping for. :indiff:

But I thank you again for your beautiful work. Your bee looks MUCH nicer than mine. I hope you don't mind that I did some color changes and resizing. :)

* Edit: So what's the story Bruno? Are you actually going to take part in these races... ;)

Jeff

I saw your mention of the author of the livery, I was joking!

Regarding the boundary layers is a real problem and can not "flatten" a group of shapes in a single vinyl is another ... but there will be no improvements.

For the story: if my bee is placed on the large side of the car is that I made the mistake of creating the front cover, save it, then apply the side and then the format was enormous and impossible to reduce it!

I had forgotten this bug. To avoid this we must create these Stikers large size on one side of a blank drive. Save the group. Then it is possible to apply it, and resize. by cons on the roof or hood or trunk. must rotate, resize times!

I had discussions with Dave Thomson about here, and it's a different ration proportions between the different parts of the car. no correction possible!

Moreover, no worries, if you do change colors, etc. I've just make a working basis. you have all the rights ...

As for your league, it would have been pleased but not this time I organize a championship NFS shift, then I'm on vacation the whole month of July

WOW I guess I am not the only one who can enjoy SCC and Shift at the same time afterall 👍:sly:

I realized, that I have to give special thanks to YLOD. Thanks to that I lost all of my liveries :grumpy:

I'm sorry Vompatti--all the hard work you put into those liveries. What a shame. :(

Yeah, I didn't think so. :( Of course I probably should have tested it before I spent 2 hours working on the text. :banghead:

Ahh, so it's not just a one-time bug or something I did. It's a general bug with this resize issue. :grumpy: Although I have to admit, at this point, I'm more limited by layers than anything else. Besides, I'm not really that happy with how the text looks without the additional editing.

Yeah-yeah. :sly: Lots coming knocking, but few come inside. Enjoy your vacation! And thanks again!

Damn Jeff
Thats a really nice livery.I wish I had any artistic talent at all.But I dont.I'm still working
on mine but I rather practice than paint.
I was thinking of making a world cup tribute livery, like the art work bmw from Le Mans but
with flags of the country's that's in the world cup,but I dont think that I've got time.Maby
for the next event.

Beware people Jeff as officialy upgraded to ALIEN tier :scared:

He just joined the 57 club, and even more impressive threw at us in a wet race last night an amazing 2,02,xx that I think only Alan and Henrick were able to pull until now.

He just joined the 57 club...

Need I remind you who started the club? :D

It was a bit lucky. Henrik & Alan can do 'regular' 1:57 laps. I can't. I have about 4-5 of them. But the one on the leaderboard is the only 'white' one.

At any rate, thanks for the compliment.

EDIT: Hey, isn't Biggles also a member of the 57 club? ;)

Mmm, really not much race practice going on for this event. The Monza braking zones are pretty risky for a big group of cars.

Yes, I agree. And after a few practice sessions both tonight and a few days ago, I would like to comment on this. Almost everybody in this group has proven themselves to be very fair racers. But at this track, there are several reasons why people, even experienced racers may find themselves caught out.

- The lap times between fastest and slowest are rather narrow.
- This track has long straights followed by hard braking for tight chicanes.
- Unless you're more than 1.5 seconds in front of the car behind you, it's very easy for the car behind to draft you and end up right on your bumper with a 10 kmh higher closing speed.
- With more than 3-4 cars in the lobby, this could potentially mean a battle royal for the first 3-5 laps with a lot of unintended contact.

So for the race on Sunday, let's keep a few key points in mind.
A. If you're drafting somebody, remember, you're going to be going faster and you'll have to brake EARLIER than your normal braking point.
B. Show a little restraint in the chicanes, especially in the first few laps, when the entire field is bunched together.

I'm not suggesting people don't race, only be aware that there will be cars all around you.

Despite these words of warning, I'm looking very forward to the race(s) tomorrow. :) See you soon!

Maby more importent, when your drafting somebody change lines when approaching the corners so you dont have to break behind somebody.

Got on the time trail 20 laps,..
Ipushed the limits out of the 1995 F355 challenge ( is this the car everybody else is using in this event lol)

..finaly culd not brake in to the white 1'59.99
my fastest is 2'00 around monza...
am i doing something wrong??? , car set up is the same as in the last events.

Hi new soul, 20 laps is not enough, and your usual setup probably doesn't work here. I did myself yesterday a few offline time trial laps ( just to see what would result of it) and my best was a low 2:00. So, do another 200 laps today, fine tune your car and you'll be back at your usual level.

fine tuning wont give me 3 sec a lap, it's 0.5 as im now in the 59'ers

Realy cant say anything good about the F355,

Hi Guys, long time no see. I hope to be joining you tonight but it's been a while and I certainly don't expect to be fighting for a podium position!

Do I take it that everyone is running maximum camber and the ride height is lowest front/highest back?

Hi there Dereck I was beginning to wonder...:nervous:

Good to see You back(believe it or not just two nights ago I've asked Jeff if he knew what the hack had hapenned to Ya)👍

Yeah we are but the new maximum, post patch(-30 /+30) to be fair with those guys who bought it after it,and to minimize that bug.

Anyway great to have You back...

Thanks man! I've just been very busy with a new business and will be for a while to come so I'll just dip in when I can.

Like new_soul, I'm stuck in the 1'59s so I'll probably be waving goodbye to all you 1'57ers!

 Awesome livery! And very life like. Granted, the shadows and textures are no match for GT5. ;)

Hey, you're talking about one of my favorite cars! Compared to the 348 Challenge, the 355 Challenge seems to have a much more 3 dimensional (read sophisticated) suspension, better gearing and an all together, lovely sounding engine. There's no doubt you can do more by tuning in this car than you could in the 348. I'm not trying to argue that it makes you that much faster. Just that the changes are felt more profoundly.

Great to hear from you again Derek. I was wondering what happened to you and I'm glad to hear you'll take part. We just need to find Manny, now. He's all but disappeared.

Maximum camber, minimum front, maximum rear is probably the way to go for this track. But it's not necessarily always the way to go. :sly:

Oh yeah. So, there was some mention of this event starting when the Brazil match finishes. But this match won't finish until around 9.20pm GMT (...with daylight saving). So will the event hold off until the end of the match?

I would appreciate this ,very much:sly:

Yeah, the event details post on page 5 says the event will be delayed if the match goes late (but of course still group-stage; no extra time or anything, so it will finish, give or take a 2 or 3 minutes, at 9.20pm GMT-DS.

Is anybody else having trouble signing into PSN? I can't get in. Left it for a while, but even 1 hour later (now), still can't get in.

Yes, just to confirm, I will not start this race until after the Brazil/Ivory Coast match is complete.

Going off-line now--see you soon.

Damn. It.

I keep getting a 80710092 error, and can't connect to PSN. I've rebooted the router, shutdown PS3, etc. Worst possible time for this to happen.

The PS3 connects to the modem, has an IP, and can access the internet. But just can't access the PSN.

Is anyone else having a problem?

No Alan sorry for You man,we all manage to race without any DC's.
And Jeff got his first win...well deserved one:tup:

What a sham. Absolutely ridiculous.

I went on for a few practice laps around 6pm, couldn't log-in to PSN, so did an offline race. Preparation looking so good; put in a 1'56.87.

At race time, still couldn't log-in to PSN. Tried everything in the book, but wouldn't work. Realised a few minutes ago that others in Ireland are having the same problem; can't log-in to PSN.

What an absolute sham. The one time it needed to work, it failed.

Event No 1 - June 20th, 2010 - 20:00 GMT - L'Autodromo Nazionale di Monza - RACE RECAP

I want to thank everybody who participated in the 1st round of the '1996' Ferrari F355 Challenge season from Monza. This first race was slightly delayed to give everybody the opportunity to finish watching today's world cup matches. More than likely, we'll do the same again in two weeks time, when world cup action really becomes interesting.

I normally take this opportunity to thank everybody for the clean racing exhibited and good sportsmanship observed. But in this case, I'll just have to assume that was the case and wait for other people's comments since I never seemed to truly be in the 'mix' of things today. None-the-less, as this group has raced together before, I'm not in any way worried and form the comments after the race, it sounded like there was some good dicing going on throughout the field. One further positive note I should mention, there were absolutely NO lobby problems to speak of. Nobody was booted or kicked from the lobby and the connection remained stable and acceptable with excellent audio quality and generally little lag. Perhaps there was much less PSN activity because of the world cup. Perhaps outages in Ireland meant less people connected. Either way it was nice to see a stable lobby without having to send multiple race invites, and having people dropped, mid race in frustration. The one odd exception to this was hun200kmh never received any of my 3 invites to the Text Chat. Odd indeed.

QUALIFYING: 2 laps - conditions 50% dry/wet chosen at random

I flipped a coin and heads meant it was wet qualifying for the first time. I was able to set a relatively clean lap but unfortunately I missed an apex here or there and it could have been quicker. None-the-less, I think others took it very conservatively or ended up with red laps and I ended up 2nd on the grid, a good distance behind mhm66 in first and only slightly ahead of new_soul in 3rd place.

RACE 1 (Feature Race): - 20 Laps - Dry

I made a decent start for this race and was contemplating a move on mhm before even shifting into 2nd gear, and as soon as I had a look over my shoulder to make sure nobody had a good run on me. But before the braking zone into the first corner there was some funky lag between Henrik and me and I wasn't exactly sure where he was. Whatever the case, I stuck close to the inside and mhm either gave room or made room and I found myself first, headed into curva grande.

New_soul managed to slot in ahead of Henrik as well and this 1-2-3 order continued into braking for Parabolica, where new_soul was able to draft past me on the inside. When I turned in, I wasn't even fully aware he was there but I had no where else to go and I was bumped a little to the outside of the track but managed to gain control. I'm not sure if new_soul let me regain the position or I just had good enough momentum exiting parabolica but I was able to draft by him again on the main straight to start lap 2.

Rather than give a play-by-play of what happened over the next 10 laps, I'll simply post my video and let it speak for itself. There was some great back and forth racing between the 3 of us, with even Fingersandthumbs sneaking his nose in there a bit in the beginning. The constant close racing was certainly a lot of fun but it was also compromising our ultimate pace and none of us were really able to put in a decent lap until the gap finally opened. Likewise, while fighting for position, I was so nervous about punting somebody off that in many cases I was backing off much too early in the braking zones, or simply running too wide.

This 'good' run and great fun, finally ended for me at the Parabolica on lap 9, when I lost the lead for good by putting a wheel on the grass. At the same time I accidentally hit the 'change view' button which threw me off and I ended up down almost 5 seconds on mhm by the end of the front straight. And I was never able to gain it back, or make any serious inroads into his lead. For several laps I tried to push and the gap remained steady. But around lap 14, I made a slightly mistake and lost a further 4~5 seconds. I had a comfortable margin over the 3rd placed car so at this point, I decided to back off slightly and consolidate 2nd place rather than keep pushing in a futile effort to catch mhm.

I will post 2 videos from this first race: Laps 1-5 and Laps 6-9, + the final few corners of the race. As in between there wasn't much else worth watch other than my driving around by my lonesome. Great racing for the first few laps and I was very happy to come in 2nd, my best result in the Challenge series so far.

RACE 2 (Sprint Race): 15 Laps - Wet

Going into the Sprint Race, I never in my wildest imagination, thought it would turn out to be my first victory and a very dominant one at that. I'm under no illusions by what happened. The loss of some very fast competitors: Vompatti (YLOD), MHailwood (unknown) and AlanG (suffering form PSN problems), along with a good bit of luck and misfortune for my nearest competitor was what made this possible rather than an incredible performance on my part. None-the-less, from a few practice runs during the week, I knew I had good pace in the wet and was able to put in several laps in the high 2:02 range. And the only other person in the field who I knew for a fact that was running a similar pace was the guy starting right behind me.

As such, my strategy was to be conservative enough as not to get myself tangled up in a big pile up, while working my way through the field, but to be aggressive enough to take advantage of any mishaps. And like magic, that seemed to be exactly what happened. By the start of lap 2, I was in 2nd place and drafting the first place car into the braking zone for the first chicane. Lady luck was really shining on me today. What's more, Henrik was nowhere in sight. For the first few laps, I tried hard to maintain a quick pace and build up a gap. And it wasn't until lap 6-7 that I saw mhm appear in 2nd place, but about 15 seconds behind me. There was some dicing going on with Arvore, for which I was quite greatful! :D But from around lap 8, Henrik was solidly in the lead (behind me). I was able to maintain a steady gap to mhm for several laps, running in the high 2:02s (they must have been all red but I know I had 2) or low 2:03s. But when I reached lap 10, I began to relax my pace. I knew if I could run solid high 2:03s or low 2:04s, it would be safer and it was unlikely Henrik would catch me by the end of the race. And so, that's what I did and the final 1/3 of the race became very strategic.

For video of the wet race, I will only show the first 2 laps, my fastest white lap of the race (lap 6?) and the final lap.

From some of the grumblings and rumblings taking place after the event, it seems like the transition from the 348 Challenge to the 355 Challenge has not been a happy one. But for me, it's as comfortable as an old leather glove. And I'm not just saying that because of my rather lucky points position. The car has always been one of my favorites. And I'm sure before long, others will come to grips with it and it will soon seem like a victory for me, just stepping onto the podium.

That said, I was a bit dismayed to find the car behaved and felt a bit differently than it had in practice, despite not making any setup changes. I wonder sometimes if it's really just me or there's something going on there.

Either way, congratulations are in order for last season's winner, mhm66, already off to a great start with a firm lead after round one. His superior pace was clear, although in neither race did I really try and put up a fight for ultimate lap times, beyond what I needed to do or what I thought reasonably capable of achieving. I'm guessing I could have gone slightly quicker in both rounds but fighting for those few tenths might have left me in the gravel. And I don't think I could have matched Henrik's fastest lap in any case.

New_soul was obviously struggling with his lack of practice. GTP_Hun showing the speed and consistency I knew all along he had and a great showing from Fingersandthumbs, tied with arvore in the final standings.

All-in-all, a very enjoyable event for me, although a bit boring at times considering how many laps I ran on my own. I hope to see you all back for the next round in two weeks, and hope to see a few notable missing people back in the lobby as well.

Hi all
First Congratulations to Jeff for a great event(and his first win:tup:)
Like Jeff sayed I also think that the video speeks for it self,so no need
to write a lot.
First race was great with the 3 way battle for almost half the race.

The wet race I had trouble getting my usual pace but I had some great battle
with arvore and fingersandthumbs, and when I finaly got to
2th place Jeff was 18 sec in front.I tryed to push but he was just as fast.
I only upload video from wet untill I'm in 2th as there is nothing worth watching.

First, I'd like to thanks Jeff for again setting up on his own an event such as this for us to enjoy. Thank you for the great times!

I'll start by the overall final comment about this first event for the F355 Challenge series: Most likely, globally, the closest event we had eer experience. I'm pretty sure that the difference between the 1st and the last after 20 (or 15) laps never was this small. Well done to you all.

Secondly three special mentions:

Jeff - For an absolutly smashing win in the wet. Seriously, you seemed like Ayrton Senna in the '85 (?) Portuguese GP. Congratulations!

Hun & Arvore - Congratulations also to my fellow countrymen for their very good performance. Arvore (who showed during practice he was fast here) for a brilliant performance on the wet, and Hun who had almost no practice at all, for a brilliant 3rd place in the dry race. Well done to you both.

FINGERSANDTHUMBS - For someone who in the 34 challenge series spent large amounts of time making me company in the back of the pack, you had showed a tremendous evolution. Well done! You'll be missed (here in the back).

Endurace race
I started in 9th after ruining my qualification lap. Arvore went off track in the last chicane and I catch him and because it was a wet qualifying I got overly-cautious to not hit Arvore.

I managed to gain 1 or 2 positions in the first chicane and in the first couple of laps I eventually got to as high as 5th place occasionally. By lap 4/5 positions were pretty well consolidated with Derek (7th), Arvore (8th), Me (9th) and Biggles (10th) all very close to each other. I never got to get any of the guys in the front, and eventually managed to run off from Biggles. Spent the last 10/12 laps pushing to the limit and praying for a spun from Arvore or Derek (preferably from both :mischievous:) but never happened... The difference from them was always between 1,5 - 5 seconds. So close, yet so far...

Sprint race
Due to my 9th position, I started on 4th and climbed to 3rd during lap 1. Then a mistake at the 3rd chicane made off track and when I returned I was 7th. As laps went by 8th and 9th come close and for my tremendous surprise they were nonetheless New-Soul and Hun (!). I figured that either I was making a hell of a race or they really were doing it all wrong in the wet... (considering that at that time - mid-race- I hadn't managed yet a single white lap, the latest was more likely to be true...)

Nevertheless, for about 3/4 laps we three had the most ferocious, tremendous, great fight you can think off. Position changes between us were constant during a lap time. I remember in one occasion coming out of Lesmo corner Hun was in front, I was second and New Soul behind me. I passed Hun drafting and, suddenly right before the braking point a black blur passed in my right, between my car and Hun's right on the braking point for the 3rd chicane - it was New-Soul! He missed the braking point and went off, Mario took the chicane a little wide in front of me and I managed to turn in to the right turn sooner and passed him by the apex so coming off that chicane the standings that begin with Mario-Me-New_Soul out of Lesmo, and momentaneously were New_Soul-Me-Mario, ended up coming out of the chicane in Me-Mario-New-Soul! 👍 What a blast! We had also some great battles braking into the Parabolica for a few laps.

Of course their superior pace and consistency had to emerged after some laps of this and they went off gaining as much as 6-7 seconds advance in the end. It was fun while it last though and I truly appreciatted it 👍!

Not much happened almost until the end of the race, I kept a pace good enough to keep Biggles in the distance (3-5 secs behind). However in the last 2 laps Derek emerged, passed Biggles and really made me sweat such was the time we was gaining. I think he, however, made a mistake somewhere in the middle of the final lap, so I could control things a little easier to the end.

Although the results (personal) weren't that good, I truly enjoyed myself, specially the wet battle with Mario and New_Soul.

Ok, I'll make a very quick review, time doesn't allow more.

RACE 1 - To my great surprise, I felt comfortable with the car, the track and the traffic. Improved my previous fastest lap (made yesterday just before the event, when I was having a few practise laps) by about 1,5 seconds

I was 4th on the grid, but I'm really a guy that backs off a lot in the first few corners so by the end of lap 1 I think I was 7th. Anyway, mistakes from others helping I soon returned to 4th, chasing new_soul. And that's where I spent almost the entire race, sometimes losing sometimes gaining on him, until, by lap 14 or 15 I think, he made a mistake that allowed me to gain 3rd place, some 16 seconds behind Jeff. At that point I had a smile and thought "I bet Jeff will be surprised when he notices who is 3rd now" :sly:

After this I started doing mistakes but I think new-soul made his fair share of them too so I got the 3rd place. Never in my wildest dreams I would think of that as possible before the event started.

RACE 2 - This race was, in the end, great fun, but I felt a bit frustrated with it because I was struck with bad luck in the first lap. Every guy that made a mistake in front of me meant that I would crash into him, or take avoiding action and visit the sand trap, the grass or whatever could be found off track.

So, at some point I found myself dead last and with a lot to recover. Couldn't do better than 8th, but happily (because in the end the joy is as much in the result as it is in the racing itself) I had good company in my recovery (new-soul), we had a great race, with the highlight being the few laps when we had to fight Bullie also. Great stuff, some trade painting here and there but no malice involved.

Again, thanks Jeff for organizing this, hope all rounds of this event run as smooth as last night's did! 👍

Great video Henrik! Thanks for posting as well because I think it's very interesting to see things from your perspective as we fought back and forth. I've only watched the first two (have to get ready for work) but will take a look later. One thing very curious though, you show starting both races with 11 players in the lobby. There were 12!!! That's very strange. And in my video it shows 12. So far all my talk about no lobby problems, there must have been an invisible car for you.

I've posted the dry video and will post the wet as soon as it's done processing. For the record, my setup:

Camber: -4.00 front / -3.20 rear
Ride height: -0.30 front / +0.30 rear
Springs: hard front / soft rear
Dampeners: hard front / soft rear
Toe: +0.7 front / +0.2 rear
Sway Bar: hard front / hard rear

Great battle the first 9 laps.
