SCCA Speed World Touring Car Challenge

I guess it's about that time to purchase my car and practice with it. About a week til the season starts.

I'd check those links, but it's the wee early morning and I haven't slept yet.

I just thought of something that may be a good idea. We each have 2 cars. Our practice car and our racing car. Our racing car we start at the first race with 0.0 miles. Seeing as we will know how many laps we will do we can tell if that car has done 1 race or has been raced twice in the same race. This way we can make sure no one races the same race twice trying to get a better result.

Interesting ... YLG, you could keep track of the distance for each race, but not publish it. Then, have everyone submit their total milage with each race, and you'd know if they'd gone over. You'd have to make small allowances (the game counts before the race starts, for rolling starts, and after the race has ended while you're on the cooldown lap), and it doesn't stop someone from doing the math themselves, but it'd make it a lot more work :P

btw, what's the rule for testing ... do we have unlimited testing time, or should that be kept to a minimum amount (if so, how much?)?.

are we going to do a warm-up race?

Question.

In rule #6, you state that "All standard OLR rules apply".
Now this usually means that their are 2 tires on the track at all times, and rumble strips are part of the track.

Now in rule #8, you state that the race is to be only run one time.

What happens if we go off track, or hit an AI opponent in our one time race?

Clarification is needed please.

im done the f1 champ so im good to go.

i was writing the rules down and i was thinking of one change that might be for the best. i know its kinda late but this is my idea. why not make the rewards weight more interesing.

i could not quickly find the rules for scca but what adopting these rules for rewards weight:

you can find them here at: http://www.world-challenge.com/seriesfacts.html

R.E.W.A.R.D.S. System:
Rewarding of Equalizing Weight Assigned to Reduce Driver Sensitivity, commonly referred to as “REWARDS Weight,” is a weight equalization system based on the addition and subtraction of ballast weight based on the finishing position of individual drivers in the previous race(s). The goal of the REWARDS System is to provide close on-track competition between a diverse variety of cars in the top third of the field. REWARDS System weight adjustments are in effect for the next race in which a driver competes in the same class. Weight adjustments (in pounds) are as follows:

1st +75
2nd +60
3rd +45
4th +30
5th +15
6th 0
7th -10
8th -20
9th -30
10th -40
11th -50
12+ -60

I almost posted those last week but I didn't want to screw up your rules. I can find the whole weight system again if necessary. I just want to confirm two things:

1) Are the weights in your rules given in kg? The weights given in the Speed World Challenge are pounds (2.2 x kg) - so your penalties might be too heavy. Then again, that might just serve to make them more effective.

2) Since not everybody ran the preseason warmup, the REWARDS system doesn't go into effect until after Round 1, correct? That only seems fair.

It's kind of hard to further subtract weight for those of us that will be at the bottom of the ladder, though. We'll only be able to use the top half of that.

Well, after you've had penalties applied, they will come off according to that scale.

did you just come into my thread to promote your series? why? no need to talk **** in here, just because your series is a flop. who cares if the mazda 6 is turbocharged? the cars are all even, and people are having fun. why do mindless dckheads like you feel the need to bash what someone else is trying to do, when the main goal is to have a good time whatever you are doing? piss off

Hey, I was just looking through this and I don't quite get the points thing. It says +1 point per competitor.

Does this mean that if 20 people race, the winner gets 20 points, second gets 19, third gets 18 etc? Or does the winner get 1 point and nobody else gets anything? You might want to look into a progressive points system like I outlined for BC5 (iForceV8 had some suggestion s for it later in the rules thread).

Good question. I would assume you are right.

http://www.world-challenge.com/seriesfacts.html :

Drivers’ Championship Points: A Drivers’ Champion will be named in each class. Points are awarded to the drivers based on their finishing position in each class. The points for all races are awarded as follows: 1st, 30 pts.; 2nd, 27; 3rd, 25; 4th, 23; 5th, 21; 6th, 20; 7th, 19; 8th, 18; 9th, 17; 10th, 16; 11th, 15; 12th, 14; 13th, 13; 14th, 12; 15th, 11; 16th, 10; 17th, 9; 18th, 8; 19th, 7; 20th, 6; 21st, 5; 22nd, 4; 23rd, 3; 24th, 2; 25th, 1.

In addition to the base point system, one point will be awarded to any driver who leads a lap in each class and one point to the driver who leads the most laps in each class per race. In case of a tie, the driver with the highest finishing position will be awarded the point. One point is also awarded to each of the top five qualifiers in each class; and the fastest qualifier in each class receives an additional point.

I hear some drivers are missing?

I'd like to sign-up but for the next five or six days I'm gonna be out of town. BUT! If I can make it back in time to race for a day or three, I'd love to sign up temporarily--or for the remainder of this series if I find my time permits it.

Did some poking around this morning, looking for some longer races that our cars would be eligible for in the game, and it seems like there's three options:

1) Run the races as "Track Meets"

Pros:
- it's very flexible, the track and number of laps are completely up to us.
- it's available right from the beginning of the game (no need to unlock anything)
- can't choose AI difficulty

Cons:
- nhere's no start, like in a real race (this may actually be more of a pro, giving us a more realistic shot at running a clean race, because the cars are spaced out more).
- no tire wear

2) Run races from the Extreme Hall
Pros:
- lots of races to choose from (GT All Stars, Dream Car, Real Circuit Tours)
- very competitive field
- tire wear

Cons:
- everyone would have to have Extreme Hall unlocked (I don't, myself)

3) Change our Tires to Sport Softs
Pros:
- opens up a lot more races in Beginner and Professional Hall (although almost everything in Beginner Hall is only 2 laps 👎 )
- tire wear
- tires may last a little longer

Cons:
- will make cars a lot more difficult to drive, less like race cars

So, here's my question:

How many people have Extreme Hall unlocked? If it's the majority of us, than that might be the way to go. If not, I think doing the "Track Meets" would be best, because even with Sports tires, the number of longer races available is still pretty small.

July 18-24: Lime Rock Park / High Speed Ring Reverse

all of these tracks i tried as best i could to match up with the real world counterparts, city courses with city courses, circuits with lots of elevation changes, with the like, and flat circutis with flat circuits. the only one im not ENTIRELY happy with is high speed ring, i am debating replacing that with deep forrest, but ill let you competitors decide.

I don't know what Lime Rock is like, but maybe Midfield would be a good choice? It's got more of the high-speed elements of High Speed Ring, but it's a bit more interesting. If not Midfield, I'd definitely vote for Deep Forest 👍

For the record, I don't have Extreme Hall unlocked and likely will not have it unlocked for months yet. I got GT4 on North American opening day and I am not yet 10% complete.

Not yet… :indiff:

I've got Extreme Hall unlocked, but for longer races, I vote for track meets, despite the lack of "starts", and using our existing tires.

I also vote for Deep Forest, actually Deep Forest II (reverse), in lieu of LRP. 👍 IIRC, LRP is not a high-speed course. It's fairly small and tight.

to unlock the extreme you have to win all series in beginners and pro (which isnt any kind of challenge until you get to the GT World Challenge

i just wanted to post this so the topic goes back to the top of the page...

so hong hong is next. that will be interesting. in some cars i feel really quick at this track and others i cant keep up with the ai if my life depended on it. anyway this will give me a good change to practce this track.
