Stiff (adj)
To describe how a penis gets hard during sexual activity.
- From Urban Dictionary
It was a play on words.

Edit: Back on topic.
A GT86 on the Irish Toyota website is €39,895.
In the UK, converted to Irish money it is €31,650
This however doesn't include the Tax for importing a car into Ireland, so that would leave it nearly dead even for price. At 40k (For a base model) there is do much more that could be got at the same money.

The problem is that most salesmen are set to a fixed "test drive loop" for insurance purposes, although it's easy enough if you just ask to take a more "comprehensive" route of your own liking. Most people don't think of that, although a rough ride should be easily apparent on a variety of surfaces, unless everything on the route was recently paved.

Salesman like to occasionally distract you with dome lights and radio operation while you drive, which makes you think less about gathering data about the car.

You take the salesman along for the test drive? Is that common in the US? Over here, you just hand them your drivers license and/or the keys to the car you're trading in (if any), and that's usually enough for them to give you the car for a test drive.

Funny, they just deliver the car to my house with a full tank of gas and make me sign a waiver not to crash the thing for the next four or five days.

Of course, my being an internet autojournalist certainly helps...

 Yeah that sounds familiar.

Have to say, when I've been for dealer test drives its hit and miss whether someone comes along with me. Even with little used car dealers, some come along and others just chuck you the keys.

That's a possibility here too. Personally, if I'm picking up an ordered car with 4-9 miles on the odo, I want all the subsequent miles be 100% mine, lol.

I've test driven used cars without a salesman, but nothing new nor "pre-owned" without a company rep. With few exceptions, that's probably the case for nearly everyone in the US.

Of course, while working for dealerships, it was another matter...they knew where you worked and had a file on you, after all.

Niky, I have to go to the airport for that treatment. And I have to pay for gas.

Another One Bites the Dust.........

it might be the first time an American BRZ has been crunched.
We have no details on how it happened, but it's clear that the Subaru was hit by another vehicle
Jalopnik

STI exhaust

When we went to buy the G8, the guy just let us take one out for a spin. No collateral or anything. We could've just driven it home, lol.

Anyway, I think that side-impact test is flawed. Nothing else on the road will hit that car that low.

It's not clear that car was hit by another vehicle. I'd say it slid into some sort of post, fire hydrant, etc.

My ex wife did something similar to a van we rented, she was backing into the pump at a gas station and hit one of those safety yellow post.

Very common, because they're still trying to sell you on the car.

More upscale dealers though will sometimes let you take the car for a couple hours, esp. if you play the spouse card.

Not having the money to fly anywhere, I don't have that problem. :D

We only had 77 units delivered to this country. All sold out. I'm in line for a (four day) test drive after missing the track event, but the line is long. I might get the Mustang (also recently launched) before I get anywhere near an 86.

That was quick. There was an article on Speedhunters about 2 weeks ago stating they had just started work on it.

Engine in back? Or just rads?

Radiator. 2JZ powered, massive amount of suspension work that means it'll never go straight properly, too.

I've not actually tried to get hold of one yet but I've already been told the waiting list may be long. If I do get a confirmed date I plan to make the most of it - a big road trip would beckon :D

Yeah. My mom once scuffed into the concrete base for a lightpost in a Wal-Mart parking lot, and it looked a lot like that.

Gt86 voted topgear magazine speed week champion for being the car people "Ask for one last go in" an the car "People came out of with the biggest grin".

But, Jeremy Clarkson describes it as "Very ugly, very impractical, but it's also brilliantly good fun. Of course you'd have the Subaru so you don't have to tell people you have a Toyota." hmmm.

Clarkson in behaving like Clarkson shocker :P

Ugly is subjective, and impractical depends on your personal circumstances (I got on okay with an MX-5 so I'm sure I'd manage with an 86).

As for the Subaru vs. Toyota thing, Subaru hasn't made a single car since the 22B that I'd want to own and the brand now means very little to me, so my money would be going Toyota's way.

Whaaaaat? The Outback is one of the greatest inventions of all time. Then again, nobody in American ever takes their Range Rover off road so that truck is viewed from a different perspective.

Outbacks are all used by farmers here, for when they want to drive through mud or snow but not *quite* as far as their battered old Land Rover will take them.

To be honest, I doubt many Range Rovers go off road any more here either.

And technically I think Subaru released an Outback before the 22B, but I'm still ambivalent on anything they've made since. The brand just doesn't mean anything to me. Current rally regulations preclude them from doing the only thing they were really any use at, which was rallying.

^ The 22B as epic as it was, it was a little 'hard to reach'. I'll be happy if ever got my hands on the STi Ver.VI Type-R:

^ I'm more of a Forester Turbo fan up until the neutered latest version here in the US. but yeah the Outback (especially the last-gen XT w/ M/T) was very decent too!

A friend owns an immaculate Type-RA. One of the four-door ones, rather than the two-doors. Fantastic car, but as it's from the same era as the 22B my statement still stands ;)

^ I don't blame you, the 22B is sexeh! :P

BT -> I can't wait for Wheels Mag (Australia) to print an article this September.

What about the Baja Turbo? That was silly in a way that only Subaru (used) to be able to get away with!
