Tanner did a great job, We hope that someone can create a unpacker/repacker for GT1 and GT2 various demo. I'm really curious to see what home and Guest garage contains in demo 87... and in these days in my channel i don't have nothing of new to show, apart some pastime or just for curiosity videos... and at the moment only tanner and randomcarguy post something new...

You can actually change the replay names using codes listed here (NTSC 1.0 ONLY). ;) There is a faster method, but I can't mention it for legal reasons.

Oh cmon, show at all what is this faster method, if we hold all things for us, the project still locked. I think, if all cooperate we can really go forward. ;)

The method I linked, or the "faster" method, will not change anything in the .carinfo files. It will only change grid names of a car during runtime (i.e. during a race). It should look these:

gt2 replay.png

In this example, usernames have been attached to simulate an online race look. Additionally, since this is being run from the arcade disc, the .carinfoa files in the arcade disc are different where the replay names for the Honda versions of DC2-R'98 and NSX-SZ (used only in licenses) aren't included, thus the Integra replay name has been added manually. ;)

Thank you for putting me in the last position... And actually I own that Alfa Romeo in Real Life :D

Textures of cars probably could be swapped, but I don't think anyone has figured it out yet and I'm not going to. I don't have that kind of programming ability. Though, I've seen something close to it done by MMRivit, he managed to add the colors of the 1996 Dodge Vipers and place them on the 1999 Dodge Vipers in GT2 while keeping their colors. So, texture editing cars is definitely possible.

EDIT:

@tankuroded I don't know if you've seen my video yet, but here. This video features 2 of the beta AE86s from the GT2 demos.

and this is footage showcasing something that MMRivit did and sent me.

This may sound a bit insane, but whatever, I gotta ask. Would it be possible to port car models from GT1 to GT2? Like, for example to replace the models of certain cars, like the Imprezas or 3000GTs/GTOs. I specifically mentioned those, since they have different models in GT1, and in my opinion they look better than their GT2 counterparts. Sure, the Imprezas may have flat hoods there, but their roof lines are actually more accurately shaped. The Mitsubishis also have that weird thing going on in GT2. And also, their Race Mods - I liked them more in GT1. Sure, the Puma ones are closer to real life, but they are so boring when you have them literally on every model.

I'd love to see that someday in GT2.

@dzajkel
It's not possible yet, sorry. I'm sure that it'll eventually be possible (I hope), but GT2 is still in its early stage for modding. Porting from the demos just became possible a couple months ago, it'll take some time before porting models from other games is possible.

Though, about your 3000GT comment; I've done something about that. In the GT2 demos, the racing mods of the 3000GTs had different colors of the puma livery. As a matter of fact; here's a couple of videos showing the beta 3000GT RMs ported to the final game.

Granted, it's the same livery, but there are different colors for each model. To be fair though, the GT1 3000GT RMs had similar liveries to each other aswell.

I look forward to when that happens. I remember seeing a video about those beta colors, don't remember where, though (might've been MattJ155's channel, but I'm not 100% sure). Also, going back to GT1 3000GT RMs - I remember the '92 models had that cool unique RM in red and blue/purple. As a kid, I would always get one just for that. My dad, on the other hand, always liked the yellow and maroon RMs of the '95 MR.

If it was GT1, then it was Mattj155. If you're thinking of GT2, then that would be one of my videos.

The turbo on the 3000GT seems to like my right ear since the audio channels directs the turbo sound to my right earbud when I used my headphones.

By the way, that Midfield Raceway video was probably one of the most beta-looking video of all of the Gran Turismo 2 porting videos. The combination of the blue Viper and the beta Midfield with the sunbleached Tarmac and the colorful balloons made it look pretty beta-like.

I'm pretty sure they used those road textures from the build used in "The Making Of Gran Turismo 2," when they used the really early build of the game and footage was set on an early version of Laguna Seca was shown with that same road texture, I think.

New car portings:

This one has correct rear wing position and is in red, closer to the actual car. Perhaps the most exciting car port I've seen! :D

This is very cool!

Is there a chance of changing the car port specs on GT2? It has 276 BHP (280 PS) and 960 kg.

All rally cars in GT2 receive some power buff anyway, so what's the point unless it's also done to cars receive the power buff (I'm looking at you too, JGTC cars)? What should be changed is the drivetrain (FF instead of 4WD). ;)

I think that the Vivio Racing Modification should be changed to 4WD. The Vivio Rally Car is 4WD.

The Renault Mégane Rally Car's logo should be changed to Maxi Mégane and the specs should be changed to 276 BHP/960 kg.

Racing Modifications cannot change performance or specifications of a source car. We've dealt with this with the Taurus NASCAR in the past. ;)

EDIT: Except weight, but you get that from the included "stage 4" weight reduction. And the Vivios (RX-R and RX-RA) are 4WD already anyway.

Wow, didn't know there was a red Xsara Rally Car in GT2. If only it had that red-yellow-white gradient on the roof, it would be perfect. I have no idea why did they make it black and moved the spoiler to the roof. It still looks cool, true, but this red one is lots better looking IMO :D

Eh, there's a way to fix that problem though; just use GS codes to give the Taurus the engine and drivetrain from another car.

How does one go about editing the car title images (the ones that go above the car)? And also, what exactly has to be done in order to port a car over?

Is it AUP-unfriendly to discuss the "how to's" of this whole porting business?

I have to give a news in terms of my youtube channel. I delete the majority of my GT video because the channels of other people working in the project there are already videos on the same contents, much better than my.

Got the logo moddin' working :sly:

Taurus NASCAR.png

Not to mention that it is a 1.2 version of the game with Mark Martin's Taurus as well.

EDIT: And here is the Road Runner in all it's inaccurate correct! year glory

I'm gonna go ahead and start uploading these to my "Race Cars of GT2" thread.

Woah, that's amazing! Problem is...that is a '71 Road Runner. Your thinking about the Challenger and the Cuda. Those were listed as a 72 and a 70 when they are a 70 and a 72.

Ah, I see. Guess I confused myself there. I was thinking about the Cuda for that one

I guess the real issue with this is that when converting the image to 16 colors, they might not convert "cleanly" I guess. Sticking to grayscale makes it easier since almost all cars in GT2 have white logos, but that's not as much fun :sly:
