There you have it. Highway2000.
It's a largely unfinished SSR5, you may remember it as "SSR5 Daytime version" from MattJ155's video showcasing Test Drive beta tracks. This track was probably used as a base for the SSR5 we saw on the GT2000 videos.

Looks like the 2P/Hi-res version of SSR5 with even less trackside objects to me. 💡

Guys I think you can change the cars name with the .carinfo.txt.. If I'm correct..

I think I should port the Simulation Disc' .carinfoa to the Arcade disc so that the Integra Type R(Japan Model) label (for JDM DC2 '98) appears in the arcade mode. (By default, only Simulation Mode does that) 💡

You need to do (Total bytes of the track you want replaced) minus (total bytes of track you want) and then go to hex editor, and depending on the editor you use (I use HxD), go to Edit, and select "Find Bytes" I think.
I'm not good at explaining

Question. Why do the cars in the intro movies have wheels that looks different than the final game? Why do the wheels look strangely inverted compared to the "deep dish" type of wheels they use in GT2? If you don't know what I'm saying, watch this:

See how the intro wheels kind of stick out, while the actual game has these wheels that have wheel spokes dished in while the rim is as wide as the tire?

I have 2 possible answers.

1. They made the intro with GT1's style wheels (but I kind of doubt it, because although the flat shape would fit, GT1's wheels weren't perfectly circular but squarish for some reason)
2. Since the intro is only a video and therefore doesn't use the hardware and its limitations the cars in it have better, more polished wheels.

I just noticed that the Nismo GT-R LM Road Car changes its logo when you race-modify it (Becomes Nismo GT-R LM)
The Saxo does this as well, becoming the Saxo F2 Kit Car (or something similar). Not sure what other cars this may apply to, possibly most of the ones that have RM's based on real race cars.

Yeah guys I mean a non-racing modified car..

And yeah same happens with the Lancia Stratos that becomes the Lancia Stratos Rally Car if racing modified

I was thinking of the green R34 RM Kure
Oh, then that was a Racing mod for the normal R34 GT-R.

In which, it's apparently based on a 1999 Falken Skyline Touring Car.

So I figured out how to unscramble the raw UI background images and the bits that go on top of them, they're stored in the files in little rectangles like this, and I found some stuff.

Pretty much the non Japanese languages on the JP1.0 & the non english on US1.0 disc are all in various states of translation and contain stuff from an earlier stage of development. Here's an album of most of the stuff, if something isn't in English then it's because the eng folder didn't have it. Some are screenshots and some are dumps because my tool discoloured things at first, but then I fixed it.

The green tint to the 'Special Event Lineup 2' pic is just how it is, it looks like that if you put it in the game. The AZ-1 pic shows the square trophy place and a gold trophy in it instead of a small silver one.

All the dumped images from the various discs & languages are in this folder, these include all 3000+ images from that directory not just the ones in the album so there's loads of car description and dealership stuff.

Also, none of these 'work' if you put them in the game, the cursor only goes where it normally would and takes you to the normal places.

Edit: I checked the available demos, their backgrounds are just the used ones and their foreground bits are blank

I recognize some of them like the "Welcome to the GT World!!" shot from the instruction manual to GT2. They are pictured in there for some reason, it didn't occur to me they were still in the game hidden. Nice work!

It's great to see some early menu content for once, I was curious on what the early menus looked like ever since I've seen those screenshots within my game manuals.

It's kind of interesting that they decided to take that out because something tells me they probably would have had the race selection screen music playing in the main menu, while the title screen shouts at you saying "WELCOME TO THE GEE TEE WORRRRRRLD BROTHERRRR!!!!!"

And you just got to love the pre-final version English here.

"GAME STATUS
NOW PRINTING"

How do you print game save data? What, did the PS1 had a Game Boy camera style accessory only in Japan?

"PIKES PEEK DOWNHILL"

I'm guessing Pikes Peek Downhill has a pretty nice view, considering they want you to Peek downhill.

But seriously, nice job because this is probably one of the greatest finds so far.
