What is 'Good' ranking to be aiming for when drifting in the seasonal events. Is the points system even accurate in determining good/bad drifting habits?

I drift using a Supra RZ and I've noticed alot of the highest ranked guys are using Cerbera Speed 12s  . The way I see it, they're just abusing the ridiculous power to weight ratio and the length of the car. Meh.How high are 'normal' cars expected to get in the rankings?

EDIT: By ranking I do mean Top 1000 Top 100 etc. Not Gold/Silver/Bronze.

I would say go for about 1500th. Any higher than that, you're too good and should try less, and and any lower you are horrible and should quit drifting. But in all honesty, I'm not sure why you want to aim for a specific ranking. I thought the point of rankings was to see how good you are compared to others. Don't you want to be the best? If so, go for #1.

*Slit my wrists*:indiff:

I am technically going for number 1 of 'Regular Cars'. I don't feel that anyone in a standard [by my definition] car can get onto the top spots [which are filled with Speed 12s]. I was also wondering what Par/ the average is, as I'm sure many people try the drifting seasonals for fun and skew the rankings [without giving it a good attempt].

The point drifting in GT5 is flawed. People use the TVR to take advantage of that fact. If you get a top score you may be a good drifter but on here you are recognized to be good depending on your style, angle and how well you tandem. As long as you get gold I wouldn't be concerned

I'm assuming the only way to get recognised is to strap on some Comforts and go online ;) I was pleased to see that my thread is the only one which even mentions the point system.

90 degree entries score 0 where as a guy can hold a handbrake on a Fiat Panda and PD class that as drifting and he got 3rd in the world on one of the seasonals. Work that one out.

Yeah, drifting for points on a "driving simulator" is kinda... well, besides illogical how can I say this? Pointless

But seriously, a person who is actually into drifting and knows something about it (follows BDC/D1/FD etc.), would much rather tandem with their friends than do some dodgy drift points thing on their lonesome.

Just my opinion of course, mixed with first/second hand experience :sly:

Drifting for points is indeed pointless for all the reason the two guys above me mentioned.
players spectating one another and giving them d1 style scores that are based on
angle, smoke, proximity to the other drifter and overall style is a much, MUCH better system.

I saw a Nissan Be-1 in the top 10 rankings in the last season event.... FF car. I downloaded the replay and it looked foolish with his DS3 and it makes no sense.

In the last one I finished around 300 with my S14 in the first trail, all Comford hard, no mix of tires. I do it only once to get the money ( because I have non left... ).

My best was around place 50 lol, a german teammate hamtidamti007 finishes every time in top 50 at least, he uses a G27 but mixes up tires lol. So does a dutch friend named SP1GT.

The_kingb_ was the 2nd on the very first trail on ever on GT5 (Tsukuba) with a 900 degree wheel DFGT , CH and Buick Special and his brother was 1st ( also DFGT ).
Nowadays everyone mixes up tires to get points... Smart, but no something you'd do online.

To get easier in the top 100 you almost must mix the tires. Just very few make it far on CH. Sometimes I see CH users in the top 30, but not much anymore.

Hint : Don't change your style of drifting to get in a higer rank. Making some nice videos is a better way to show what you can do.

So shortly : You get more points by taking the ideal line, mixed up tires and a setup with a lot of camber lol. I THINK you also get more points with a stiff car but I'm not sure about that ( or soft ). The other things will help.

Thanks for the additional members posting their comments. I do it for the cash and helmets personally, and an excuse to smoke up my rear tyres and take pretty pictures in photomode <3.
