Sebastien Loeb Challenge

hello rallye-fans!
Yesterday I did the first track of the first level of the loeb-event...
first few tries were not too bad..felt quiet comfortable with handling etc...nothing extremely new in comparison to GT4 or so...
important: turn off traction controll! then the citroen is for me better to handle...

Took me let's say 12 tries for GOLD! this evening I'll try the second track...

I JUST LOVE RALLYE! add me to your friends list when you love it too and like to race it online some time...C U

Kai

I surprised myself, (this may be considered cheating) I normally cannot rally on the Turismo series however got all gold and it it is worth it (you can guess the prizes)

I use manual gears, traction control 3, ABS 5 and maybe skid control if allowed (or maybe not). All on the pad too.

I smoked the eiger by about 7 seconds and likewise on the Chamonix. Although Toscan only crept in with several tenths of a second but iwas my first rally race (except licenses)

Hope this helps, also I sit almost with face pressed to the tv to get these !!:)

bloody right mate, good formula, shaved 2 seconds off the gold time at toscana

I find this rally stuff by far the crappiest part of GT5. I've played tons of Rally games and this just feels totally wrong. It's not like anything else I've ever played. And that's not a good thing. Bronzed Toscane but the rest seems completely out of reach (like 20+ seconds away from bronze).

I think I'm just gonna skip this stuff.

I just got gold on the first one the first time I tried. And I'm not that good at rally :) I find the trick in rally is to try to keep the car from sliding too far and the right racing line helps a lot too. use up the whole road. I mean the whole road! and don't use traction control.

Wow! Just shaved 6 seconds off my time and put me on gold instantly!

I actually found this challenge very easy (TCS:embarrassed:ff, ABS:1, and skid recovery). You just need to be very careful and stay right behind the ghost car. Took me about 20 minutes to complete this way (if you can, pass the ghost car).

Managed to get all golds on these but the Chamonix one was quite hard, took me 6 or 7 goes and on a such a long lap that was frustrating... you have to make sure you are carrying alot of speed through the turns.

People are saying dont drift, but i did them all by drifting you just have to enter the corners alittle faster than usual and smoothly drift/glide around the corners, just keep up the speed.

Set your control so that you have access to the RA Menu while racing, from there set the wheeldrive to 50/50, no traction control and it should be cake, 40/60 and 30/70 are tarmac setup.

I've sacked these owls arse of a challenges off now... Struggled to get a bronze on Toscana by something like .001 and was 6 or 7 seconds off a bronze on Eiger... and Im driving like a god damned demon... I just dont have time to keep doing it over and over and over AND OVER... sure its a piece of cake with a wheel but I think for things as stupidly hard as this they should give a DS3 option... Now back to the fun parts of the game and I am going to personally spit on every single Citroen C4 I see parked on the street and deface every single picture of Loeb I can find as a sign of my utter dismay at this challenge...

Actually I thought those challenges were pretty easy.
What I did was turn off TC on tarmac and dirt completely and put it on 2 for the Chamonix-event.

The Chamonix-event was by far the hardest to do though.

Yup, I'm so far off these time it's unbelievable... it's times like this I'm glad I have other PS3 games!

edit:

F it, I've just tried Toscana again, so far behind the ghost car... @~£$%!

You don't need to to beat the ghost car in these challenges. It's just there as a guide for you. If you had to beat it they'd send it off at the same time as you instead of 5 seconds before you. :)

Instead do a lap and see what time you register.👍

I thought I was the only one! I was struggling just to get bronze. Yesterday I tried it again, but I raced slowly, steady and constant. I felt like I was slower, but for my surprise, I gold it like with a 3 or 4 second advantage! The trick is to take it easy and drive like 75 percent of the cars capacity. Today I gold the other two and got the Premium Citroen WRC, a standard C3, and a premium regular C4...

Just doesnt seem worth it for all that hassle and all you end up with is a French car HAHA

Toscana and Eiger was easy for me, no aids except ABS 1, Can't for the life of me get a bronze in Chamonix though, tried many of times and just can't do it.

Someone said to mimic Loeb and even the game tells you to see what he's doing and try to do the same.

Well this would be possible, if he didn't have a 5 second head start on me. How is a beginner supposed to mimic Loeb, if Loeb's already over the horizon and you're trying to steady the car on gravel?

Anyway, I got bronze on Tuscany after a few tries but lost by 16 seconds on my first try on Eiger among a few disqualifications. I turned off all aids except ABS because I thought it would help with the drifting but I realized drifting is not 'the point' here. So gonna try with TCS/ABS and if that doesn't work, try with skid force.

Skid Recovery makes these challenges almost too easy. I got tired of trying it over and over so just cheesed all the events with skid recovery on (TCS off though), and it was a breeze.

If you're stuck and don't mind cheesing a bit, just turn it on.

At last. I´ve golded them all. Took me a few days to complete but i´ve done it without any assist (only ABS 1). I have now the winner feeling. The hardest one is without any doubt the Chamonix.

I hated these events however bit my teeth and gave them a go and after using this advice I got gold easily.
Just drive slow, slow means fast, don't dive into corners brake even more then you think you have to, don't look at your time during your run just relax and let the car drift, don't waste energy fighting a loosing battle to keep the car straight use that energy instead to go fast.

wow, i cant belive what i am seeing! I was really expecting these challenges to be hard after all these comments. But i golded on my first trys and i just cant belive people is struggling with this. :embarrassed:

My best tip is to brake very little. you gain nothing braking like on-road racing.

Set your control so that you have access to the RA Menu while racing, from there set the wheeldrive to 50/50, no traction control and it should be cake, 40/60 and 30/70 are tarmac setup.

I did something similar since they set the 4WD car up to act more like a FR car; crazy! Anyway, I set the 4WD settings to 45/55 and also played with the brakes 6 Front and 8 Rear. Makes the car handle ALOT better and managed to gold all Charmonix events using similiar settings.

For Eigar I changed my brakes to 7 Front and 9 Rear.

Amazing what little tweaks can do. :)

I was also expecting them to be hard, and when I first tried one, I could never catch up to the ghost car (and the challenge said to beat him), so I ultimately thought it was impossible.

Thanks to this thread, I realized you don't need to beat the car, just post a good time. Once I realized that, all the races were easy to get gold. Just use the setup that was posted above (TCS at around 3, Stability ON, ASM off, ABS at around 3).

I really struggled with rally, so much so it was starting to put me off the game.
Nice and easy, not too aggressive with all assists off and I golded all 3
Now in a escort rally car on the other rally challenge kicking butt.
Great help from this thread- thanks one and all.

BTW, the Rally races in GT5 are the only ones where I feel I get a sufficient road surface feedback from the wheel (compared to Shift). Most of the time, I feel I am driving around on a billiard table. Rome goes from tarmac to cobblestones, and I can't feel ANYTHING in the wheel (there's a noise difference, though) to tell me I'm on it. Has ANYONE ever driven on cobblestones and NOT felt the wheel judder?

It's still a video game, I've driven on cobblestones plenty and it's not a pleasant experience.
Why have the wheel vibrate and shake uncomfortably the entire ****ing time when you are on the cobblestones in a videogame?
On normal tarmac you only feel a bunch of vibration and bumps in your wheel when you are using low profile tyres and/or stiff suspension, gran turismo still means grand touring, the joy of driving is equally important.
Irl you only put up with the discomfort of a stiff suspension because it helps your car go faster. The sore ass and back are a price you pay for the adrenaline rush.

Next thing you'll want to have to pee through a tube in your suit like a real endurance racer in gt...
Maybe you should put on a helmet so you can get all sweaty and warm and make sure to open a window in winter so you can be cold and your vizor can fog up.

Besides you can feel when a wheel loses traction or when the weight of your car shifts, things that matter for the gameplay.
Why detract from the experience by having the wheel constantly bump/shake about in your hands, muffling any REAL important input.
Can't see the forest through the trees anymore as they say.

Can somebody please provide a brief explanation of how I change this setting for these races? I can't find it in the menus, anywhere.
