Sebastien Loeb Challenge

Someone said to mimic Loeb and even the game tells you to see what he's doing and try to do the same.

Well this would be possible, if he didn't have a 5 second head start on me. How is a beginner supposed to mimic Loeb, if Loeb's already over the horizon and you're trying to steady the car on gravel?

Its more to mimic Loeb's style. Loeb drives very smooth and keeps the sliding to a minimum, even on dirt and snow, which contradicts the traditional image of rallying but it was obviously effective.

Can somebody please provide a brief explanation of how I change this setting for these races? I can't find it in the menus, anywhere.

In the option menu of the game, there is a controller button configuration, look for RA Menu, there is 5 buttons to map on the controller, open RA menu, select function - and +, set function - and +.

I've finally given this a try. I golded the Toscana challenge after only 3 tries, but I'm like 5 seconds off bronze in the Eiger challenge. :(

Okay I've just completed this "challenge" using the skid recovery force CHEAT, and I have to say that I feel dirty and I hate myself, and you guys should too. This makes it FAR too easy, and now I feel that trophy is meaningless. They should have removed skid recovery force as an option and given SLIGHTLY easier target times. In fact, I personally think they should remove it from the game altogether, or at least disable trophies while you're using it. Because it really is cheating, no question about it. If this option makes the other races this easy, then I'm really disappointed. I like earning trophies that are hard to get because then your mates know that you must be good at the game. But instead they'll probably assume that you used this cheat to get it, which makes most of them meaningless.

I went back to beat the Eiger challenge today and I got gold by half a second without aids! :D What I did is set the brake bias to 4/5 to help me slide the car into the corner, and I set the 4WD to 45/55 to neutralise the slide on exit with the throttle. Also I did about 30 laps in arcade mode to learn the track.

Toscana and Eiger was easy for me, no aids except ABS 1, Can't for the life of me get a bronze in Chamonix though, tried many of times and just can't do it.
This is crazy... Toscana i got gold on my 3rd try, Chamonix i not only golded on my first try, but by about 6 seconds ahead of the ghost. Meanwhile Eiger is giving me the tizzik, i cannot even come close to bronze!!

Does someone else think there are a couple of things wrong with this challenge?

First of all, the fact you just can't learn from the ghost car. That's plainly stupid.

Then there's the tracks. In my opinion, they are nowhere near as well made as the Gravel/Snow tracks of Liege/Alaska. The corners are IN MY VIEW ridiculous and the surface feels different, in a bad sense. I had no problem in golding the GT rally challenges, but this tracks are really annoying for me.

And at last, there's the prices. Normally, I have no problem when I can't gold a challenge (Such as the AMG "Academy" or the license tests) so I give my best and try for silver. In the case of the AMG academy, getting silver gave me rewards that left me satisfied, like 2 Photo locations, the Type V ring, and a premium C63 AMG. In the case of Loeb's challenge, I just can't settle with silver because it awards me a stupid C4 that isn't even worth 50k, and if I do it in bronze it will give me a car that is so lame I can't even mention it.

So, /rant, Skid recovery on and get the C4.

A few tips for the Sebastian Loeb challenge -

First watch the video to learn where to break, where to throtlle and where to turn.

My setup for Chamonix - auto. gear, 1 skid recovery, 2 abs.

What I noticed, is that it's mostly about controlling the throttle in the tight turns. E.g. when coming to a 2nd gear turn, break easily and let dont push through the corner. Let the initial speed take YOU around the corner. Take the corner tight and don't drift hard. Take it easy when steering too. Make small adjusments, find the middle of the road when exiting a corner and when powering through high-speed turns, don't break hard either, easy break adjusments, let the speed come down easy to the right gear and hold the speed, with a small press on the throttle. Always be easy on the throttle.

When breaking hard into a 2nd gear corner, you almost everytime, find yourself comming to a hold, when having to throttle hard out. The hard throttle prevents the wheels from turning and getting a grib to the surface. Therefore, easy on the breaks, let the car drive itself through the corner with its own speed. That way you maintain a much higher speed through the corner and your exit will be much faster.

Much of this applies to the snow challenge - I also used the same setup from the Chamonix stage - when you get the hang of Chamonix, I'm pretty sure you'll know how to deal with the snow challenge. Again, whatching the lap preview did a lot for me.... Take your time and don't stress about it. If you're stressing, take a break, adjust your boxershorts, have cig. a breath of fresh air and come back again, watch the lap preview and don't focus on the ghost car, do your own race.

I golded them all, not with ease, but mainly because I used the lap preview and learned when and where to break, throtlle and turn.

Hope this helps a bit... Otherwise ask :) Where you loose speed, which corners makes it difficult for you and I'll see if I can help you out!

These events are frustrating. I think I finished 3 whole laps of each challenge becuase I keep getting disqualified. Luckily, each lap completed was better than the last and with about 2 hours of work I managed all gold.

I found that being gentle on the throttle and brakes is the way to do it. I found that in rally events I was being heavy handed and not treating the controls the same way I did in normal racing. Once I changed my ways it was pretty easy, to be honest. Brake to your slowest speed before turn in, turn in with enough throttle to slide the car out a bit, but back off and just hold enough throttle to keep you moving.

Thats my amatuer advice.

For what it's worth, followed various bits of advice on this thread (E.g., turned on TC to ~4/5 ish, ABS up to ~2/3) and golded the lot pretty quickly. Having TC on makes it feel really bogged down in the corners, but encourages you to be a bit smoother and hence quicker.

Fun in the end, but the constant disqualifications started to grate a bit! They could at least let you finish the race, even if you've been DSQd, to learn the latter parts of the track better!

At first I hated this event with a fiery passion. Then I went into wheel settings and put it on simulation, turned off all driving aids except abs. I then set the 4wd to 50/50 and brakes to 6/5. It took me 2-3 tries to beat Eiger, but I got gold easily on my first full lap, same with charmonix. Just be gentle on braking and feather the throttle through turns while drifting.

I beat them all without skid recovery. The gold times are lousy, you can beat the stages by 6-8 seconds. Just take notice of what you do right.

I didn't use any driveing aids except for abs. I entered the turns fast ( not too fast) and slowed down by slideing and brakeing, then just after the middle of the turn straitened for a fast exit out of the corner. I got gold on the first try except for chamonix

What annoyed me with these challenges is the text says to get gold you need to beat the ghost. So on Chamonix I kept quitting half way through when I was miles behind the ghost. Then one time I decided to keep going, just see what my time was and even though the ghost was again miles ahead I beat the gold time by a couple of seconds.

This evening I followed the advice of some on this board and got golds on all three S.Loeb challenges the first time I tried.

The settings I used:
Auto Trans - too much shifting otherwise.
Traction Control - 3
Skid Recovery - ON
ABS - 1
Everything else was off.

I also found that having the driving line OFF allowed me to actually do these challenges faster - and I enjoyed it much more.

Drive smoothly. Ease on and off the gas and brake. Others have said to keep sliding to a minimum - I agree.

I surprised myself, (this may be considered cheating) I normally cannot rally on the Turismo series however got all gold and it it is worth it (you can guess the prizes)

I use manual gears, traction control 3, ABS 5 and maybe skid control if allowed (or maybe not). All on the pad too.

I smoked the eiger by about 7 seconds and likewise on the Chamonix. Although Toscan only crept in with several tenths of a second but iwas my first rally race (except licenses)

Hope this helps, also I sit almost with face pressed to the tv to get these !!:)

helped me a lot!!!!!!!!!! thanks a million!

golded all three within a few attempts

Power sliding is not the answer, you need to be slow and deliberate through the corners. The idea is to maintain as much traction as possible and get the nose of your car pointing forward as early as possible when exiting turns. Anticipation is key, and dont be afraid to give the car some gas!

I just finished these events today, for the first time. Tuscany, took me forever because I either couldn't come close to the bronze time, or I would breath on the edge and get disqualified. I finally got bronze today.

Than Eiger, after about 4 tries and a decent lap that got interrupted by the phone ringing and me crashing I got Silver. Then I tried Chamonix and got gold my first try, but honestly I find snow driving really easy since it reminds me of driving here six months of the year XD. Now to go back and gold the first two. :nervous:

I advice this way only for experienced drivers who know the track well.

Automatic Transmission
TC: OFF
SRF: ON
AS: OFF
ASM: OFF
ABS: 10 (surprisingly)

I completed the course with a time of 3:58.920 using these options.
Basically, just remain composed on the corners and never worry that you are going too slow down the large slope. You really aren't ;)
Don't rush any part of the track thinking that you need to be fast. With these driving options, you should clear it anyway (as long as you take the corners with the right composure.)

no aids, abs off with front brake bias 5 rear 3, changed the power distriburtion from 30-70 to 40-60 (when 3-2-1-go I changed it to 50-50 to get a boost lounch :D ) got gold on first try on the dirt tracks once I reached finish but the snow track made me go nuts.. couldnt go halfway trough before hitting the wall. got gold eventually
