Shots have been fired in a Munich shopping centre and a police operation is under way.

Reports say the area round the shopping centre in the district of Moosach has been sealed off, but details of the incident are sketchy. Several people are reported to have been killed, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper quotes police as saying.

The security forces have been on alert after a migrant stabbed five people on a train in Bavaria on Monday. The authorities had warned of the danger of further attacks. Reports speak of one attacker. Helicopters are said to be flying over the scene and workers being unable to leave their shops.

Munich police are telling people to avoid the area.

This is an on going situation so not many details known at the moment.

Let's hope that the casualties are minimal and that this thread doesn't become what the Nice thread became. I was really surprised by how horrible Nice ended up given the early reports. So far the early reports suggest that this is not what Nice was...

Munich police are telling people to not tweet or post photos of the situation and give away the police positioning, in case it helps the attacker(s). There was a video floating around which supposedly caught some of the action. It was on Russia Today but I'm not sure if it still is.

Edit: There are 25 people, including some children, who have locked themselves in a room on the upper floors.

Second edit: The police do not have an idea who the perpetrators are or what their background is.

Yeah there are videos showing when the shooting started and people running away all over social media, especially Twitter.

Do not tweet or post photos and then this ^^^^^. Liquid c'mon son.

On a serious note any news on who is responsible and why?

Hey i'll make another guess; EU politicians will twitter that they are 'shocked and appalled', 'pray for Munich' will be trending on Facebook, media will state that the shooters were lonely lunatics that have nothing to do with Islam, and our leaders will say that there's no reason to panic.

Let's see if ISIS releases the video testament in the next days. At least that will help some people to wake up from their winter sleep.

Police say there are 3 suspects with hand weapons.

Munich Station has been evacuated as part of the wider police operation.
Nürnberg Police are on their way to assist.

Already received a warning because i did jump to that conclusion.

Anyhow i find it unbelievable that you guys still don't want to make said conclusion. Buy me a beer this evening when it turns out i was right?

I suspect ISIS always claim responsibility for things like this even if it's a lone wolf attack. It's not exactly easy to confirm these people have allegiance. That's if this is an ISIS style attack at all, we don't really know anything yet.

Lone 'wolfs' in this case as reports say multiple shooters.

Here's a pic of one which is going around at the moment:

We dont know yet the full detail. Dont jump into conclusions.

But if it ISIS, then i must say they are really desperate in attention after many losses in basically Iraq-Syria.

Karlsplatz, Munich's main square, is also supposed to have a shooter present. Police are sweeping the area but it is a possible false alarm.

Edit: The three are apparently making a run for it.

Oh, wow I used to live there about 5 minutes footwalk away... This isn't your usual shopping center, at least not for munich - it's huge and very convoluted, it's old, too. I think was built 1972 for the olympics, in fact it's called OEZ Olympisches Einkaufszentren.

If the attackers know this place, it'll be very hard to get to them or get them out, unless brute force is used.

I probably can't think clear at the moment, but these are my thoughts.

And no, I'm not anywhere near munich right now, I'm in another state currently...

The police do not know where the three attackers are; the shopping centre has not yet been searched in its entirety but with a police cordon in the surrounding area, I hope they cannot have gotten far.

The livestream I am reading has changed its details from hand weapon (Handwaffe) to "long weapon" (Langwaffe).

Does that mean a rifle? Or a gun with a long barrel? I'm not familiar with gun terminology and it doesn't specifically use the word for a rifle (Gewahr).

Reports coming in that 'Sheiss Auslander' was yelled by one of the attackers. Which means 'bloody foreigner'.

Seems to go against my guess here. If so i owe radical Islamists an apology...
