Shooting At Munich Shopping Centre Germany

I've seen video online of people arguing and yelling at the shooter from a balcony. Twice I've seen it translated by the poster and in both of them he purportedly says, "I was born here, I am German"

He also said in that video that he had been in stationary treatment. Looks like a person running amok. Let's see what the police press conference at noon brings to light.

Let's pretend for a moment that mass killings and attacks are never stopped by guns... (Even in shopping malls)

Obviously banning guns hasnt worked. Hundreds of dead Frenchmen in Paris and Nice can attest to that. What is the point of banning them?
To make it easier for criminals and terrorists to kill people of course. I can't think of any other reason. :odd:

From now on I'm going to continue my responses to this portion of the discussion to the Guns thread...

I feel very sorry for the victims of this incident, but I'm getting seriously hacked off by the way the media are reporting this.... it's not the final round of the Masters here - we don't need rolling coverage and live analysis... not least because that is exactly what most of these nutjobs want to achieve out of it, regardless of their motives. BBC are 'reporting' (live, no less!) that, at this point in time, it is not yet clear if this is terrorist-related or not.... well thanks for that crucial update 👍 Seriously, this media coverage overload has to stop...
Back when Bataclan happened I was doing one of my weekly long drives and had Radio 5 Live on. For 3 hours - that were also being broadcast on the World Service - Stephen Nolan was almost non-stop describing 'terrifying' scenes of frightened people fleeing the carnage.

It was borderline sickening just how much airtime the BBC and Nolan were dedicating to telling the world just how very effective terrorism is. They were literally spreading terror.

So I switched the radio on last night and, sure enough, there's Nolan again, spreading terror. I listened to Absolute 80s instead.

When it happened, Kumi Taguchi - one of the ABC's news anchors - regularly addressed the camera, saying "we have no new information; we are only recounting the facts that we know for people who might not be aware of the events in Paris", which I thought was a pretty good way to do it.

I myself usually tune in for 10 minutes and then after that wait until the end of the day or next day to see what else is known. Sometime I come back a few days later when all the facts or most are finally in.
I might start to implement this too, instead of wasting many hours watching constant re runs of the little info that's there.
Could be doing something constructive in the meantime; like playing games :dopey:

What I think happened regarding the talk with the local man before the shooting started: Man sees the guy with a gun and tries to talk to him about what he's going to use the gun for...

Just speculating, but nothing else really makes sense to me (it's just weird there's a video of this to begin with).

Police says the attack was probably inspired by the attacks of Utoya:

"Er beschäftigte sich intensiv mit dem Thema Amok, weswegen er auch die Attacke in Utoya kannte. Diese Verbindung liegt auf der Hand“

"He was extensively engaged with amok runs and he knew about the attack in Utoya. The connection is obvious."

Well I mean you know it's going to happen when disaster strikes, and it doesn't even have to be this, they do it with every deadly event, naturally caused as well. And so you basically know that CNN for example is going to have each broadcaster repeat one another and so on. I usually only come here for news then go to media outlets to confirm it (you never know) and then see what else can be found, and that usually doesn't take long so after that I wait because I don't want to get in a preventive argument over the situation when no one knows down from up for the moment.

You can say the "reruns" can be on the other side, yes @mister dog?

I can make a guess that he was Shiite and not Sunni, therefore not a radical Islamist jihadi, and committing normal suicide and not blowing himself up like a Sunni jihadi.

I can make another guess that he was a 2nd generation immigrant who was living in poverty, nursing economic grievances.

The meme of angry young men running around shooting people with a pistol has set in with almost everybody. Just normal human behavior now. The Petri dish of humanity is getting a bit frothy.

I'll throw bullied teen into the mix as well, unpopular, maybe even picked on or assaulted by immigrants of one variety or the other.

So killer is connected to ISIL? Or are there multiple killers
One killer apparently, what appears to be a disaffected teenager with an axe to grind against immigrants. However, it's still too early IMO to draw any conclusions and an eyewitness in McDonald's, interviewed by CNN I believe, who is a Muslim, has him saying, "Allahu Akhbar" in McD's. I'm sure they'll be digging into the parents and home life as well and you never know what might turn up there.

I think that today ISIL propaganda is enough to make people crazy. You don't even h ave to join them to be like them

Another failure of gun control.

Is this a wind-up?
People who own guns legally are 99% sensible and trustworthy and use them correctly- Shooting at shooting clubs.
Lunatics steal, buy on the black market and get guns which ever way they can to cause death and mayhem.
So it isn't a failure of gun control neither would banning guns make a scrap of difference if there available on the black market.
This shooter seems to be a have serious issues and no case of gun control was going to stop this idiot doing what he did.
Maybe if people who visited his house like parents family friends if he had any would have seen the way he was and reported it so he could of either been arrested and maybe helped! before the shootings happened or closely monitored by police and jumped on the second he produced a gun to load it. Even if he did legally own the gun if the police knew he was a danger it could have been removed and as I said he could have been watched.
Unless every gun in the world disappeared there always going to be available to nutters unfortunately.

This isn't a very constructive discussion, because Germany already has very strict gun control. Doesn't mean it isn't super easy to get one if you want to, like everywhere else in the world, too?

Another failure of gun control.
Mass shooting in a gun-owning country (e.g. Orlando)

You guys are so annoying with this. 👎:indiff:
Instead of bringing the gun control topic here, how about looking into the problem's root?

You make this sound so easy because every 18 year old of his characteristics would be presumed to have a gun and go on to murder people in broad daylight.

Even if he did legally own the gun if the police knew he was a danger it could have been removed and as I said he could have been watched.
The person had no terrorist links or a criminal record and had used a hacked Facebook account so this had merely made him invisible to the authorities. So no he couldn't of been watched.

Is this a wind-up?

And, what source did you get these statistics from?

The gun control debate can stop in this thread because the guy bought the gun illegally.
Silly man, you don't think the facts can get in the way of an anti-gunner with the bit between his/her teeth do you?:sly:
