Intresting topic tbh but sadly it has no logic to stand οn *Disclaimer some of the points ill make may be wrong anyone who know's better please correct me.
Now to my knowledge short shifting works as follows , by shifting early the engine dosen't have to be worked as hard = less fuel required = saving fuel of course it depents on the track , car , driver etc. This strategy has the pay out of making your accleration slower thats why its more effective when you are behind another cars draft as it helps to minimize that loss but you are not losing any power it just comes a tiny bit slower due to the smaller amount of fuel going to the engine at that time so 2 foul's already. 2 You said you saw pepole going all the way through an "Endirance" race but my quastion is this how big was the length of this races ? 30 minutes 1 hour ? etc etc & what where the fuel consumption settings? because in my eyes an event less than 2 hours in length is not really endurance also keep in mind the FIA evants are 30 minutes in length at the most so not even close to endurance. Now because of these things you said is safe to say you are using automatic
(Like me) if this was GT5/6 where AT users had almost zero ways to save fuel i could understand you slightly even tho its your choice but in GT Sport you have different fuel map settings you can use accordingly so no exuse there also you said you are watching replays of races trying to understand but as far as i know you can't see what fuel map someone is using on a replay so maybe these drivers are using a lower setting + short shifting to save as much fuel as possible. Lets go to the real racing part of your post in all of these classes you mentioned short shifting is used & it is a big factor especialy in endurance races like le mans 24h etc where everything can be lost in the pits or think about F1 fuel stops have been banned for years (since 2010 i think) & they rely on fuel saving to even make it to the end of a race so not every pit stop in real life is a fuel stop , one last thing to keep in mind is that the fuel consumption in GT Sport is not based on real life & changes accordingly in every BOP update. So is it a "cheat" at the end of the day ? No its a tool given to the player & he can get as much advantage of it as he likes , should be removed from the game ? Of course not & honestly i can't see how anyone can stop it.
If you can learn how to use MT (unlike me) just do it. One last thing please don't say/right thing like " I dare" etc etc to do
(Insert thing here) on
(Insert where here) because you are not & you can't do nothing about it especialy when you are in the wrong.
