Stadium beers at the Angels game. First one officially. Feels good man.

It's pot luck whether the staff in your store are competent and give a damn or know sod all about bikes and couldn't care less what state it goes out in. The Carrera, Boardman and Voodoo bikes are very good value for money though so it's still worth buying from them as long as you're aware they may have been assembled by a shelf stacker. Also in case you not sure about sure about any spannering the Park Tools repair guides are very good.

I have a friend who was a "bike-tech" at JJB sports, he got in trouble often for refusing to sell stuff that simply was not fit for purpose and telling customers that the bikes were, in some cases, dangerous.. also, some of the bikes that were sold off on offer/sale, cost, to the store... £1. He did give a s***, but the fact is, with substandard cables, and plastic, or monkey metal, fittings will only stay correctly adjusted for a few days.. my point is.. it doesnt matter how good the staff are, if you buy a cheap bike from a place like Halfords, Argos, JJB etc. etc... you will probably end up with a crap bike, and only yourself to blame.

That doesn't look the right colour :odd:

Completely agree. I work in a supermarket and am the go-to guy for getting displays assembled. Garden furniture, bedroom furniture, exercise equipment, Gas BBQs, bicycles, done them all. And the first thing I reply when a manager tells me to do it is "I'm not trained to do that, so it's not my fault if it breaks." The managers thing I'm joking most the time, but I'm deadly serious.

Luckily, we don't sell ex-display bicycles, because those things are really poor quality. The adult road bike, on a small frame, weighed nearly 18Kg alone for christ sake.

Don't worry, the Carrera bikes are actually decent bikes for the money (great bikes for the money in some cases!) so if it is set up correctly it will stay like that. I get what you are saying about the BSO (Bike shaped objects) ones though, like Apollo bikes... They are mince.

I refer to them as bike shaped objects (edit: tree'd!), the stuff they sell in supermarkets and JJB etc are utter garbage and a complete rip off for what they're worth, I'm not even slightly surprised they cost the store £1. The worst thing is people buy these bikes as an attempt to get back into cycling and to get fit but when the thing grinds to a halt and the local bike shop can't fix them because they aren't made with proper components it puts them off cycling completely.

I'll be getting my son his first proper bike this year and will likely get a Specialized from ebay which will be an infinitely better bike and a better investment than pretty much any else you can get from the usual shops.

It's odd how awkward some of the Apollo bikes are harder to put together then they are to take fall apart, taken from my experience working at Halfords some of them were really difficult to build when it should be simple.

Edit: In ref to Aldo.

Yup, Specialized is the best bet, don't need a big budget, but its good starter for a decent bike.

He's only 3 so by first proper bike I meant a 12" wheel bike with stabilisers instead of his trike rather than first proper full susser, I'll be getting one of those before he does ;) The Spesh kiddies bikes are pretty cool though, my first bike was a budgie  :ouch:

Edit: Actually it was kind of cool, if you squint it looks a bit like a chopper :D

My first bike was an Alien Quest just like this one.

After lifting it out of a awkward space recently I cannot for the life of me work out how I ever managed to turn a pedal on that thing. It weighs more than both my current 26" bikes combined.

I've gotten completely use to my road bike, which weighs a bit over 20 pounds. People always say "oh, I have a bike too" and I go to pick it up and it is like "how is it so heavy?"

Spokey Dokeys?

Neal, we can't be friends anymore.

Have you seen your avatar? :sly:

Spokey Dokeys were even cooler if you had an ice lolly/popsicle stick through the callipers to make an awesome motorbike braaap noise on the spokes :dopey:

I concur, I love my Specialized bike, pricey but well worth it and you stand out from the crowd (well in the UK anyway).

Regarding Halfords I always wondered how competent the guys who assemble the bikes there are, something tells me there isn't a dedicated bike builder at every store .... :nervous:

Robin.

Contrary to my mental age, yes :indiff:

Aww I'm sowwy :(

Just bought some new Sennheiser CX500 earphones as my last CX500s just died on me.
They lasted a tad over 2 years though, and they sound great so I'm perfectly happy with them! :D

Spokey Dokeys FTW! :)

Personally I used a cable tie to make the awesome motorbike brrraaaap noise as they didn't break as easily as icy pole sticks.

Because I really hate painting those window trim. I love S13's in this color though, so it's perfect. It would be absolutely perfect if I bought the S13 with the engine and slap the engine in the prepainted one. All I need for this one is my Gundam marker ;)
