@TheCracker - I've had my f/1.8 for a few years and have never had any problems. Unless you're constantly changing lenses or if your hard on your stuff, I think you'll be fine.
The mkIII version of Canon's 50mm f/1.8 is out now and it has a metal mount and is still priced around £100. Could be just what you're after? That had been my initial thought, but reading the reviews had led me to believe that the connector, being plastic, could be quite brittle - leading to plenty of instances of the lens getting stuck to the body, so I may end up looking a little higher up market than that (although that one is indecently cheap) But then you've got to weigh up the benefits of higher end lenses with lower end bodies, I guess.

In my opinion, no.Speaking of which, I'm due for an upgrade.
If I have an S4, would an S5 be a worthy upgrade, or a waste of money? There's honestly no 2015-model phones that interest me...
I looked at the specs of the G4 and it certainly interested me, but I think 5.5" screen is just too big for me. And I'd love to have a removable back cover for the battery and SD card, which is why nothing is really standing out for the newer phones. In my opinion, no.
If you skip a model you'll notice an actual upgrade (though still not very signifficant in 90% of the cases), whereas with just the next model is basically the same thing with very slight changes and a waste of money.
If you can get/afford a good deal for an S6, it's a decent upgrade (though still, nothing major). Otherwise, as far as Samsung, leave it alone and keep your S4 for longer if it's still working as it should. That's what I'd do.
Only phone I'd consider (if I had the money) trading My Galaxy SII right now would be for an LG G4. The camera and its software on that thing are beasts, and that would seal the deal for me. As for all else, I wouldn't take advantage of it over my current phone.
