Sick of seeing racism/xenophobism online..

I've not joined any online lobby for random racing, I just race with friends on my list who I know are great gentleman drivers. I'm up for some light hearted tounge in cheek international banter, but outright racism & vicious nationalism are not things that should be allowed to occur in gaming communities or society in general imo.

I am totally shocked that this kind of attitude still exists in this day & age, I just hope that it is a stupid ignorant minority of neo-fascists that still think & act this way, I find it hard to believe most normal people are like this. By the way, I'm english/pink skinned & anyone is welcome to race with me as long as they're clean, competent & conscientious racers.

PS: I understand that some people might want to race within certain geographical areas just because of low bandwidth/lag & are not racist or nationalistic.

Seriusly, shut it man, dont complain... it happens but why do you even have to bring it up.

I'd hate PD to remove the flags of PSN IDs because of some petty issue like this, that cant be avoided.

IMO listing the country flags makes 50% of the online racing experience for me.

I find it very fascinating and interesting seeing what country the other people around me are from, especially if they can talk english and have a mic.
It takes the gaming exprience to a new level, instead of just playing withsame old faceless stranegers.

Actually a racing games is one of the few that is not very latency specific, if it was most other others games like an FPS you would have to play with local people only, within 1000 miles of your region due to the lag you would otheriwise get.

PD have done a good job not only stating what country peple are from but EASILY displaying the flag next to the user ID in a race.

If they were to remove this because of a complaint like this it would detract a lot from the online experience.

PD PLEASE DONT REMOVE THE COUNTRY ID FLAGS BECAUSE ONE GUY THINKS ITS RACISM.

P.S also its good for you brain. Makes you learn country flags...

I play people from all over the world without lag issues. Why don't you let people join and see what they are like before kicking them?

Simple. Lag can come no matter where you are from, so either he's a racist or a xenophobic.

Anes: please provide a good reason to kick people because of their nationality. That quote from the BUL shows why you were banned before- trolling

For the record, I can kick whoever I want from my room without any reason if I feel like it. Just because I post on this website doesn't mean I have to race against people from different continents. In fact, if by some miracle someone from the Maldives joins my room (unlikely as I hardly ever touch the game now) I'm going to kick them on sight and send them a message saying that's it's zedextreme8177's fault. Why? For teh lulz.

...and you're still doing it:rolleyes:

Go to www.speedtest.net and do a test on the eastern side of australia and tell me what your ping is.

And I have raced against internationals before hence me now kicking them when they join.

Still don't get your point. Don't call me a racist either.

This is modern civilisation and you will never change them... Scared of the unknown and why trying to get to know each other, when you can just kick them... Very sad but true!

I have played plenty of people from Australia online without lag issues. It's a poor excuse.

It's ok I did it myself

upload: 0.29
download: 2.46
Ping: 358

My usual speeds to Sydney (1000km away) is 17 download 10 upload and 34 ping.

I would kick you if you turned up in my lobby. Purely because your a whining little child yapping from your soapbox. Just because he chooses not to play with certain nationalities doesnt mean anything, its called free will you dullard. Its people like you who run around labelling people because of your own insecurities that spoil online gaming. Do you know what irony is ??, you should because you throwing out names at people based on your assumptions is no different to people taking issue with someone because of their nationality or skin colour.

My brother thinks Halle Berry is gorgeous, I prefer Kate Beckinsale. Does that mean I am prejudiced against non whites ?? .. of course not, I just prefer Kate. In another online game I avoid lobbies with spanish and dutch players because in my experience the majority are campers and I dont like playing on a map full of people hiding in corners .. am I prejudiced against them ??, of course not. And the guy doesnt have to justify any of his choices to you by the way. But then it wouldnt matter what he said, I have met many people like you in my travels worldwide who would turn up at the opening ofg an envelope if it meant they could play the race/gender/gay card.

Wind your neck in and jog on please.

Agree with the OP, it is a shame, it happened to me yesterday night, I was kicked off because my nationality was different to them in that lobby. I do not understand and I do not even try to. On the other hand I was in a lobby full of Aussies and I did not have any problem at at all so I guess it depends on the people and not the country itself, there are always respectful and shameful people no matter where you belong.

I tend to drive in British owned rooms because I know that I can understand someone in the room. I do get really annoyed by the racism and abuse that gets hurled around online. Most of the time in 'clean racing/free run' rooms these people get kicked. However in mess around rooms (top gear drag racing etc) they are often in the room with a lot of their friends, so they don't get kicked.

I was in a Nascar Lobby with the majority being French people.

It was me and this other Englishman and we were simply getting banged around and wrecked by these guys despite the title of the lobby being 'no crash nascar.'

It was quite humourous at first listening to their headsets but when it got to lap 40 of 100 and the mechanical damage on our cars was just horrendous and it became simply annoying.

This has happened to me twice now.

I played in an all Canadian room last night it was great. The host kept things moving, everyone drove clean, and they were friendly to me. I love Canada.

Racism from what I've seen is way worse in games with guns (COD, Uncharted, etc) I Used to play Uncharted 2 online and NEVER used a headset because the racial slurs flew non-stop.

Racism is nothing online compared to the profanity. I find it's humorous that some think they have to even type profanity online in order to make a point.

Agreed, Canadian rooms are the best:tup: I've had some of the best races there.

Japanese rooms are also really good. Although you might have communication issues, they usually drive very clean and you rarely come across rammers:ouch:

I remember one AUS room, which turned out to become an Anglo vs. American warzone over the chat, good times:lol:

Okay okay, I might have been a bit too hostile with my previous posts. Deal with it.

The biggest problem I have is with the spanish.
Whiny
cocky
loud
immature
use profanity in spanish i guess they think you dont know
ruin servers with drag race only/honda only
etc

It's a communication issue more than anything else IMO. I was in a room with a load of guys from the US, and we were doing NASCAR w/ cautions at Daytona. A non-English speaking guy joined, and he seemed to completely disregard the caution car whenever it was out. It may have been a language issue, he may have just been trying to piss us off - either way, he had to go.

If I want to start a UK only room I will, and you can't stop me. Same goes for any other nationality. I won't join a France only room or any other and expect a warm welcome. This whole problem would probably go away if PD made the multiplayer regions more specific (instead of just 'Europe/Australia').

Totally understand that, I just can't stand seeing French peop...oh...wait. Bugger, I'm surrounded. Oh, even worse - I am within the hive. /o\

But, seriously: racism has no place in the world, no matter what kind. Each of those incidents should've led to a report, period.

this is definately a communication issue. i have some great racing buddies in OZ/NZ and some from Japan and Germany...and loads in the US (i'm UK). i find that people are people wherever they are from. you get some great people and some not so great it doesn't matter where they are from. however i have been kicked from many rooms and have seen many people kicked because they cant communicate effectively. the fact that a language barrier can ruin the online experience and can easily be connected to a flag doesn't make it rascism. frustrating maybe, but not rascism.

just my 2 cents

personally i dont join rooms that specify certain regions (if im not in it) that way i cant complain if i get kicked.

I'm with you on this, I've also played people from all over the globe not just on GT5 but in other games and have no problems.

Bear in mind that if this is the reason for the lag you would be lagging on their end, it works both ways, so they have the right to kick you for this reason and I'll take a guess that you would whine about them if they did.

I can understand this:

-AUS/NZ only (or other countries too, far away from Europe and America) - lag when racing others is almost guaranteed, but it's not racism.
-(This country only)-rooms - if you want to meet people you can talk to with your own language who actually has a common interest in the game - not everyone has friends who plays GT5 too. Still not racism.
- Kicking stupid people (yes, some people are stupid, call me a racist :P)

This I cannot:
- Getting kicked when entering a room with nothing like ^that labelled and before they know how you drive.
- People that are rude against others for no reason.

But I must admit: I do not play much online in GT5 - I do in other games - and it's very rare this happens to me, but I see it happen way too often to others.

It's a shame really, I'm a casual British guy, and don't really get problems with racism. But I've seen some horrible things being said to people from other regions, it's rather sick really...

Strange thing is the best rooms are those hosted by French, Germans and Dutch people. Most of the time I have joined these rooms (I'm from the UK) I have been welcomed and had some good races with them. Sometimes the language barrier can be hard but you get there. That is when the game is at its best. I hate rooms where they kick people from the same country or whatever because they don't know the person joining even though it says "All Welcome".

PD should attempt to prevent such. It makes the online gaming experience pretty pissing off. I run into atleast one such room everyday where i'll hear/see open racism and see people and myself get kicked for their nationality.

you can quite often see rooms labeled "german only, no *****g english", "no dirty arabs" etc etc

Even though i wouldnt touch such rooms, its good that these people label themselves and let people know its a racist room where nationality and color matters. Its sad to see this in modern times.
