Sick of seeing racism/xenophobism online..

I don't understand why American users kick me when I join their NASCAR Lounge.

But people just like me when I join a Japanese D1 Lounge.

Anyhow, racism is wrong, and it's a really pathetic thing to do.

I'm not racist, I abuse EVERY race with the same amount of venom, doesn't matter if you're Canadian, English, Irish, Spanish, French, Japanese, Aussie, Kiwi, American, Arab, Pinoy, Chinese, whatever!!

So, you don't like humans? Well, we don't like aliens neither ;)

Ii always seems to be French vs UK, or Spanish vs everyone...

Worst one i've seen is "NO PAKIS OR INDIANS" whoever started the room clearly didn't know how directly people of Indian (such as myself) and Pakistani origins react to this, so within 5mins of the room being created the room was flooded with vengeful asians and his PSN was spread all over the place. What was stupider was that the room then became India vs Pakistan and had to be disconnected BY PSN THEMSELVES!

Glad I've not experienced anything I'd consider to be offensive, I've been kicked from a few French and German rooms but I don't really mind that.

I just got kicked from a German room for having a U.K. flag next to my name, didn't even have time to load up the map properly

I got kicked from a UK room for having a UK flag next to my name, makes sense right?

I haven't read every post in the thread but i'm suprised by the thread itself. I can't say I've come accross much, if any racism online in GT5.

In fact the last couple of nights I hosted a room racing german make cars on the ring and we've had players from all over Europe as well as the middle east and the states and its been very friendly.

I find that just about all foreign players speak excellent english and just wanna have some good racing.

Hm, im from germany, but not a german. But I still get called "nazi race driver" sometimes in uk or french servers :?
Edit: Thats the reason why I always turn voice chat off!

Hey mk1junkie,

nmt here.. and maybe I have been lucky throughout the last months as well, but fortunately I haven't had any issues either.

I guess the GT crowd is a bit more mature than the usual online FPS population :)

I didn't knew about this issue but it is indeed very sad. I understand that some people prefer to race with home buddies (easy comprehension, likely less lag) but racist insults... It's very sad.

I guess I'm lucky being from a little country no one cares - not even their own citizens :dopey:

Always funny. People tend to equal German and Nazi but yet, we're one of the very few countries in the world that prosecute showing any gesture or sign related to WW2 or the Hitler regime at all. Showing the Hitler salute? Uh oh, you're pretty much done - hefty fine or, in severe cases, some months behind bars incoming.

And if you think we wouldn't do that and I'm just kidding: it just happened a few days ago, to a Canadian tourist. He's still behind bars while they're making up their minds how to prosecute him in that particular case. Read more.

Now, let's think someone would do that in the US or the UK: no one's even giving a damn. The only bad thing is that we can't even make fun of it, we even cut symbols out of video games like Call of Duty. It's part of our history and we have to accept that, keeping our eyes and ears shut won't change anything.

I think it's fair enough if people want to race against people from a certain nation or whatever, but by no means should they leave a room unlabelled and then abuse anyone who comes in.
Besides I find that playing against people from different countries is one of the best things about online play 👍

Thats probably why they didnt want any Pakistanis or Indians...

To an extent many people have stereotypes in there mind of how people from different nationalities exist. Continuing to further them by acting up does nothing to dispell this im afraid.

What I've actually noticed more than anything is an overwhelming hate of Americans by...anyone not American. If I even speak in a race or tell someone not to bump, cheat, etc I get flames for being from the US. Just last night I was in a room hosted by an Irish kid of about 13 who called me a dirty yankie and recommended I choke on my neck fat and kicked me for beating him.

Btw I beat him with a 650 hp mclaren in an 800 hp room with his color shift gtr :sly:

Isn't a lot of it because they only want people who can speak english/german/whatever the nationality of the host. Admitedly no need for the derogatory terms if these are happening, but it is annoying as a host when people join whos language you can't speak - and they start having a conversation over microphone constantly.

I have a feeling that language is not the only reason... it may be part of it but I highly doubt that language is fueling all of the GT5 racism.

I don't see a problem here. I kick euro's from my rooms all the time. I want to race against aus/nz only. That doesn't make me a racist and if some random spaniard kicks me I won't sook about it.

internet is serious business

??? I can understand what your saying but the OP wasn't necessarily saying never do (Insert specific country)only races, he was saying LABEL them so people don't waste their time entering them accidentaly. Also, your internet is sereous business quote makes zero sense.... how about some context... if you know that that word means of course.

💡

Start your own room

lol so using your genius logic there would be 10000000000 different rooms with no one but the host in them. Online does not work unless you get people to join a room with you. You really are just genius! Any other priceless gems?

That is NOT racism. Thats xenophobism.

and that makes it OK...? or are you the guy who has to correct every little usage error?

Once they hear my voice and find out im black the racism starts wtf this is 2011?

Internet anonymity is so cool to them because theres no consequence but just good humor with their buddies.

Exactly. I would bet that 90% of the people that talk trash online are kids between 13-20. Just stupid jackasses who would never say any of the stuff they say online to a persons face because in their heart they know they would get the crap completely kicked out of them. In my opinion every single one is a coward.

I would kick you if you turned up in my lobby. Purely because your a whining little child yapping from your soapbox. Just because he chooses not to play with certain nationalities doesnt mean anything, its called free will you dullard. Its people like you who run around labelling people because of your own insecurities that spoil online gaming. Do you know what irony is ??, you should because you throwing out names at people based on your assumptions is no different to people taking issue with someone because of their nationality or skin colour.

My brother thinks Halle Berry is gorgeous, I prefer Kate Beckinsale. Does that mean I am prejudiced against non whites ?? .. of course not, I just prefer Kate. In another online game I avoid lobbies with spanish and dutch players because in my experience the majority are campers and I dont like playing on a map full of people hiding in corners .. am I prejudiced against them ??, of course not. And the guy doesnt have to justify any of his choices to you by the way. But then it wouldnt matter what he said, I have met many people like you in my travels worldwide who would turn up at the opening ofg an envelope if it meant they could play the race/gender/gay card.

Wind your neck in and jog on please.

lol your Halle Berry Kate Beckinsale argument is RETARDED!

Racism is fun sometimes until you start kicking people and ramming them for it, haha.

Although I kinda disagree with that, the only thing that can be said in your defense is things like say stand up comedians. I was watching this stand up comedy last night called Axis of Evil and it was these 3 Arab guys and 1 Persian guy and they were making fun of themselves. That is really the only time I would say racism is okay. When it is someone making fun of their own race/nationality in good humor.

Oddly enough the only time I've experienced this is several times when running a room, after a racing altercation between a Canadian player and an American player, the American started tossing out a bunch of slurs and stereotypes against the Canadian for being Canadian. I've had to kick a few people for it. I'm thinking seriously, who the **** has a problem with Canadians of all people?

Canadians.... arent they the ones that have their heads split completely open at their mouths? So when they talk the entire top of their head separates from the bottom...? And they fart a lot right? lol

i've said this before in a previous thead but, you would be surpised how much hate i get going onto japanese drifting servers (tend to find them better). I don't think the realise i can understand every word they say, once called called a 🤬 american even though im from britan (shows you every country has its ignorant fools). Since you can typein japanese on a EU account i cant even defend my self.

Most the time it involves me being rammed off the track repeatedly or just kicked from the room, even though im just drifting like everyone else i just have a different countrys flag next to my name.

Then you get the rooms which are just awesome and they try to be more friendly because im from an other country. if someone rams me be accident the try to apologize in english no matter how broken it is.

I find this thread funny. You've got many posts here agreeing with the OP about being sick of seeing this sort of stuff, but then go on to list a handful of nationalities they believe to be the worst. Umm, hello pot, I'm the kettle and you're black.

Idiocy knows no borders. All you can do is just try to avoid the idiots and keep a open mind when meeting new people. Atleast let them do something worthy of your anger before you start hating on them. It's the internet, probably won't take long, and atleast then you'll have a better excuse than where someone is from.

I don't look down on the French, Italians, Spanish. Germans, Dutch, America, Japanese, or the Australians, because they are all equally worthless!!! (That's a joke BTW... :nervous: ) Seriously though, GT5 has a very handy mute feature. Whilst it will do nothing to stop you from getting kicked, it does drown out the 'lively banter' you may hear when you drop into certain rooms.

Personally, I have found the Japanese to be both friendly and very unfriendly. I've never been kicked from one of their rooms, but I have had to suffer the indignation of being puntered off the track by everyone on the server - It's as if they are too polite to kick you, instead prefering to make your stay so unpalitable, that you choose to leave of your own accord.

Then there are the NASCAR 'hick servers'... Oh my! There is a noticable drop in the IQ level of the people who populate these rooms! I was first put onto them by an American friend who, on changing his greeting message to something that showed admiration for the emancipation proclamation, would see how long he could stay in the room... Safe to say it wasn't very long!

Generally though, racism isn't as bad as the OP suggests, and lively banter shouldn't be confused with malicious intent. Trust me though, (and there are no hairs on my tongue), if you run me off the track, then you are a "Filthy [insert nationality here] ****!" 👍

Agree 100% I'm a french Canadian and when I first raced online I found a 'quebec only' room. I thought cool, I can play with some locals. Boy was I wrong. What a bunch of mongrels. All I know is more often than not 'exclusive' rooms are the worst ones. So please, label your rooms morons only so we can stay away from them.

Why does PD have the nationality flags displayed? It's the first game ive played online which has it.

But on the other hand it does add a more international feel to races when your racing against people from different countries. It's a lot more interesting when theres a wide mix of different nationalties all racing together.

It just a shame theres so many fools in the world.

i think its very annoying too, and it always works the same way, the room is full with people of one nation and one guy from another one and its always him being made responsible for driving "unclean" and **** like that. since i like to drive nascar i always experience this when i go to an american server even though i am familiar with the rules and drive cleaner then most of those who blame me for being "all over" mostly i rank 1-3 and many drivers soon realize that i am a very able and reliable driver so they stop at some point, still this is pure idiotism. this also happens when i am in a all german, french, uk or any other nations server.
i like to drive against people from all over the world and there is no need to hate against any nationality, those of you who do, are a shame. you have written dumb all over your forehead.
people have a name, thats where it starts, dont adress them with their nation but with their name.

Call me idiot but accusing someone of rasism based on kick or few mean words from someone is just stupid and way out of proportions.
