Sick of seeing racism/xenophobism online..

I joined a room with 8 spanish guys and beat them all first race, and they said something spanish about Irish people then kicked me. ... I thought it was funny, they were just sour about losing

Thats not racism though is it? As a nationality does not equal a race...

But beside that, its probably that they simply dont want someone jabbering on in a foreign language whilst they are playing.

Or they dont want someone from another coutnry with a stupid ping coming in and ruining everyone elses game?

Sometimes people choose to drive in retarded manner, you speak to them and they either dont talk abck or talk in some foreign gip. So you kick them. its pretty simple really..

Racism and nationalism are 2 seperate things (although they're more than often linked), both are xenophopic and although a certain form of mild nationalism (if there even is such a thing) based on language barriers, and expressed in the title of the room, could be excused perhaps (although I don't enter a room which states "exclusively for Dutch") as a narrowminded bunch of weirdos (or who posses limited linguistic skills), expressing racism can obviously not.

I've seen some very offensive titles given to a room, there was one called "No African Americans" and one even used the N-word in big capitals....
Aside from unfortunately not being surprised these sort of ignorant folks also populating the online section of a highly popular game, I was very suprised this was even possible to write as the swear filter when chatting is extremely strict.
I've been censored (without warning which would be helpful PD...) when typing a perfectly harmless Dutch or English sentence (probably including a word which, unwittingly, is offensive in for example Uzbekistan) making me seem like an angry foulmouth whilst these clearly offensive, and offensively meant, room titles are somehow given free reign.

Maybe, and hopefully, this isn't possible anymore with these new updates.

I just got kicked from a German room for having a U.K. flag next to my name, didn't even have time to load up the map properly

Most of the time its not any form of racism, more to do with latency over the network. Dont take it personally, I often go to rooms that require nz and aus only. Being from nz I have a ping time to aus of 35 ms as apposed to 140ms west coast usa. When you get too many people with high latency (ping times) you often get a long black screen at start of race and their car appears to jump around the track.

Oddly enough the only time I've experienced this is several times when running a room, after a racing altercation between a Canadian player and an American player, the American started tossing out a bunch of slurs and stereotypes against the Canadian for being Canadian. I've had to kick a few people for it. I'm thinking seriously, who the **** has a problem with Canadians of all people?

Im sorry but your all moaning about encountering idiots in publics servers and then creating threads about them in a forum??

Why the Hell do you join them?!?......you can race friends online in lobbies without these so called idiots you seem to meet and it stops pointless threads about something you can control but choose not to for arguments sake!

If I'm ever the host in a room I only kick people if there being idiots (ramming people, continuously cutting corners, even after warnings) or if they can't speak or type in English, even then I say sorry I'm going to have to kick you, there's too many hosts that just because their host, they act so obnoxious and arrogant, if you bump them by accident, and don't give you chase to explain. I was in a room the other day with a friend, it was just yanks beside me and him, it was in stage 7 so naturally me and him had a drag race, the Americans were parked in the middle of the road and we crashed because we couldn't slow down fast enough, they assumed we were ramming them on purpose, didn't give a chance for us to say sorry, which I was already typing, and then we were subject to a hugely racist rant and then the classic "we saved your ass in WW2" line cropped up, we were hen kicked. Some people get power hungry and seem to forget the common rule of decency.

it will always be this type of stuff online.imo just a bunch of cowards who hide behind mic and wouldnt dare say anythig to you in public all you can do is beat that ass and laugh at em. or mute or report em for what they are saying to you

If you have any that play GT5 - and then they need to be competitive at the same time. Open your eyes, mate.

Apart from 4 who are close friends the rest are people ive met online in lobbies where good clean racing has been going on and thrown out friend requests....its not hard to meet friends to avoid public lobbies so you can have a moan....So open your eyes, "mate"!

Racism exists everywhere in all shapes and forms.

I happened to catch one in the act in my own lobby once, which I was actually recording too, I warned "no red bull or kick"
With which he started shouting profanities over a microphone, which was followed by a prompt kick :)

hence now I just run rooms without microphones enabled.

Exactly, you can't change their mind anyway. I like to have fun with everyone, any country, if they're unable to do that, well, who cares.
You want to know a funny thing? I have more problem with italians.

Fools. Leave their lobbies as soon as possible, report them if necessary.

There will always be idiots who believe they have the right to take the moral high ground based on their own nationalities and beliefs. Leave them to it.

that dude in your video is a d**k.

maybe...someone should make a list of known racist/d**k PSN ids. people could postup their bad experiences and flag em for others to be weary of.

But..it could end up becoming a huge list, which might make it confusing to use.

funny thing is I couldnt understand half of the gibberish he was spouting lol.

I've got nothing against players in the international communities though, I just hate that a fair few of them go into rooms from other countries and shout on mic or type in chat in a language many of us wouldn't be familiar with, the one thing that gave him away was A. the tone of his voice, and B. the words "Puta" , instantly made me realise he was using his language to insult me ( or at least TRY TO ).

If any of you do happen to Join my room anytime in future, you are all welcome, I never kick without a genuine reason.

I.E griefers/Ramming on purpose / verbal abuse ( typed or spoken ).

I don't think it's too much to ask that we've paid for the game and play online for fun races, not to be involved in slanging matches just because players disagree with a host's decisions.

I don't have a problem with any nationality race or gender, but i do have a problem with the ghetto, rapper wannabe's in GT5. Half the time i don't understand what the hell they're saying with that wierd gibberish they call english.

Other than that i think 90% of the people of found in GT online have been cool.

Saw a server saying "No mexicans". But I joined anyway to see what they'd say. They said to speak so I tied a "white accent". But it wasnt convincing so I got kicked lol.

The whole thing sickens me! Just look at top-end motorsport... No one cares about nationality. Yes, its nice to be able to cchat with your opposition, but i got into a japanese room by mistake once. But they were okay with it. Tone of voice and google translate is all you need for communication.
So is making the rules obvious. Is there actually an unwritten law that you must never ever take a veyron to a serious drift room? I get kicked every time i take it out. But thwe hosts are happy to leave some loon running around in a dodge ram. Backwards.
I think we have to just have to get over the whole nationality thing and just be nice to people whatever language they speak.
