Not too late imo, PD need to employ a community manager more than any other company on the planet :)
I had hoped for some kind of big Dlc/features update announcement at E3, nothing doing, I can't really see them adding too much to the game at this late stage.
Would love to be wrong though.

You're wrong! haha I don't see PD stopping any time soon.

I think we'll see significant game changing updates before FM4 comes out. If we don't get them by then, well, I think that'll be sad.

I still don't think we're even that far along in terms of updates. Although, I find it hard to believe PD hasn't added the leaderboards and such things that were promised a long time ago.

Sometimes I wonder if they were just afraid of hacks/glitches and delayed leaderboards as long as possible, until it's no longer a "high value target" for hackers.

I think it will be too late add matchmaking and leaderboards when GT6 comes out. But until then there will be many of us playing GT5 and any changes will be welcomed. I think KY views this as an ever evolving product and in a few years it will be hardly recognizable from what we got this past November.

It's ridiculous that it wasn't there from the beginning. On the other hand, I was thinking that racing online is bad enough as it is, with everyone bumping and rear ending each other, passing on the inside and using you as a guardrail etc., I can't imagine how much worse it's going to be if it actually means something in the online stats. I can only think it'll make everyone even less courteous and more likely to pass without any thought to what happens to the guy they are smashing into on the way by. I think it'll be total chaos...these online stats actually mean something to a lot of people.

The leaderboards in Forza are awesome and the lack of them in GT5 is unforgiveable. So much information can be obtained from scrolling through them, matching your friends records, the veterans, the best and worst out there, what assits they do and don't use and of course the car used. Truly shocking.

Basilea
Isn't the GT5 Prologue leaderboard still up? I think/hope that after this is closed the start it for GT5!

This is what I think will happen as well. I just hope it's correct.

Since this game came out it has been what interested me the most, I brought gtp and my dfgt for last years gt academy, then no gt academy in nz this time so the only way i can really test my overall skill, would be the promised leaderboards, cos the time trials seem to be tuner trials, would make the game ALOt better for me. im a good racer like many others but it seems theres nothing to actually work towards

The game has only been out 7 months... clearly PD thought this game would have a much longer lifespan.

In my opinion the lifespan of this game is in PD's hands the longer they leave it without implementing leaderboards and other features, the more custom they are going to loose.

I came to this game from the Forza Motorsport series because FM3 was a big let down, I still held onto my Xbox in case something like FM4 happened. Turn 10 have payed close attention to what the community wanted this time round, and it looks like it's shaping up to be a great game.

PD on the other hand don't seem to pay much attention to what we want the most, they put features like remote B Spec, helmets and suits and other features that could have been added to the game after all the other important stuff.

Don't you guys think these little features should have come after the things that was promised months ago?

Nahh, there are people like me who play just to win online... It's the same reason people play call of duty over and over again when they have reached the max level.
I don't think they have left it too late... think of GT5 as the first of it's generation. It's the first true seventh generation driving simulator, there hasn't been a simulator of this calibre on the xbox 360 or ps3.

They can only patch so much, as Kaz said... he wanted much more time to develop this game. They didn't have 6 years, before anyone says that... as the PS3 dev code wasn't out 6 years ago, nor was the ability to create the quality of premium cars.

Hmm, PS3 Dev Kits were out 6 years ago, u think the fairies came along and created the launch titles? :)
btw, read somewhere that PD were the 1st studio to recieve Dev kits from Sony too.
lol

I think simply, it's better late than never. I'm sure PD planned GT5 to have a long lifespan

Why are some of you saying "PD planned GT5 to have a long life span"

GT5 is dying as we speak, from what I have seen on other threads, there are a lot of people that have been here throughout the GT series that have had enough of waiting for all the things PD have promised. As we all know these are features that should have been in from the start.

PD don't seem to have a clue what features are needed in a game to keep customers coming back, other game developers have it right as they listen to there customers (Turn 10) Instead PD implement stupid features that could of waited until after the main things were put in.

PD wouldn't last 5 minutes with Lord Sugar as they are clueless when it comes to the customer, and how to run a business :sly:

I like that last bit about Lord Sugar.
You've got some good points there. I agree that PD should've implemented various things from the start! I wouldn't say it's dying though. Personally I love it & apart from when the PSN was out, it's never left my console. I'm pretty sure looking at the activity on this site that I'm not the only one who feels this way. Don't get me wrong, I do have my frustrations with GT5 & plenty of them, I just wouldn't say it's dying

another retarded PD fanboy. It IS funny that it took PD 6+ years to deliver such a mediocre & disappointing game.

This 👍

Yet it looks like it takes Turn 10 2 years to come out with a game that has god knows how many more features than this game, the shocking thing is those features will be in the game when it's released. Not 7 months (and counting) later.

Used this as an example, please don't turn this into a GT5 vs thread

They started with Forza 2.

And OH BOY!

Well there is no information to show when dev kits were released, but I suspect it was around 2005-2006.

Firmware changes have happened numerous times so the graphical capability of the PS3 hasn't been the same since the 2005 prototype.
Seeing as a single premium car takes month to make, I think they did a pretty good job in that respect.

I defend PD because I know how much work they put into it compared to every single other game dev. The support GT5 gets from it's developers surpasses every single other game on the PS3, even Epic games who give away free map packs.

Most games take at least 2 years to make, therefore the dev kits had to have been in the various developers hands at least 2 years before the Ps3 launched.
The Ps3's RSX & Cell processor cannot be changed via firmware updates, at most Sony may have reduced the OS footprint and freed up a small amount of memory.
From what I can see PD working process is either very inefficient, or they're
just riding the Sony gravy train. :) i.e I don't see any evidence this amazing work and commitment of which you speak.

Hi folks let me start by saying i LOVE this game it has hijacked my life the last 6 months, but will we ever see time trial leaderboards for each track ??? With forza 4 looming which i must admit looks like if the physics are as good as gt5 and it feels like it, looks as though it can take the crown of best console driving game it does make you wonder in 5 years what polyphony was doing after all forza have put out 3 games in that time and the car models on the latest one look awesome . It would be good to see daily time trial challenges set too as project gotham did . :ill:

No, I doubt it. PD gives us season event time trials (which most of them suck because there is always one odd car like the Citroen GT in recent french TT) and I think according to Kaz`s logic, this should be enough.

They should atleast make a TGTT time trial for stock cars only on comfort softs.

Lets hope so i think he kinda missed the point with time trials as everyone loves a certain track and likes to know how fast they are on it .

Buy new: $54.35
58 new from $43.78
47 used from $33.99

After my first copy was stolen by the directv guy, I picked up a used one for $44 off Amazon warehouse, and that was early March. This game dropped it's price faster than GT4 or GT5P.

Many updates... month after month...
where are the leaderboards? What's the point in GT5 online races if there are no prizes? No official championships, no rankings?
It is a great game... it has a fantastic driving system... it has mechanical damage in online races... it could be the best racing game ever.
I can't understand why they don't work on leaderboards, it's very disappointing

I think because they don't know how to implement them. If they consider only the best lap on each circuit, X2010 will be on top everywhere. So they need to find another way.

Leaderboard for each car? Well... 1000+ cars... 50+ tracks... srf on/off (?)... tuned cars yes/no... You see, is not that easy.

GT5P had a few cars and tracks, no tuning...maybe there was a distinction between the Physic used (I don't remember)... stop.

That said, I don't know how it works on other games. But I think that after all these months, leaderboards will never come.

(sorry for my enrgish)
