I'm trying my best to give this game a chance, as I was disappointed at first. I do not have Playstation Plus but they offered 2 days free which I used to try the online racing. Now I want you guys to understand that I have a racing background outside of video games, and I can drive a racing line and know my braking points, I know how to carry speed. In every GT game but Sport, I have gold in everything. So that tells you I am average to ok driver.

In four different online races I have been hit from behind yet I received a penalty. [I did not brake check btw!] I have also been brake checked where I slammed into a car I was drafting on the oval, again I received a penalty. I have been slammed in the side by a car that did not bother to brake, yet again I received a penalty. I have been hit off the track by a crashed car that came back on the track and hit me. Yet AGAIN I received a penalty. I am driving clean and doing my best to not hit anyone even at times taking a loss for it. I figure, ok, first few races they will weed out the morons and I will get to race with clean drivers. Nope! THIS IS NOT FUN PD AND I'M DONE GIVING YOUR LONG AWAITED GAME A CHANCE!

This one time in online racing, I exited sport mode and entered a lobby whose title was Clean racing. In that lobby I found other racers who wanted great sportsmanship from the drivers on track. We drove, we smiled, we raced, we said good race after each race. It was a great time.

I felt the same way. I ended up just staying at the back of the pack behind everyone ( game always put me there anyway) and just did clean laps over and over avoiding everyone, letting aggressive people past until after about 28 races I got an SR rating of S. Now instead of 10 miscreants per race there's usually only 1 and they seem to get punished. Nothing beats finishing a second behind someone who nudged you out at the last corner only to get a 2 second penalty on the race result placing him BELOW you!
:D

This will help you, yes, different game, but same logic applies in many cases:

I've done 12 (that's twelve) races. My SR rank is at S and I recently got the second tier of the consecutive Accident-Free Races Achievement (for 6; I'm now on 7).

This has included Gr.4 at Lago Maggiore (which was a wreckfest), N300 at Miyabi, N200 at Blue Moon Bay and Gr.3 at Nurburgring GP/F.

Worst races were those I didn't qualify for. Best were those I qualified on the front row - but I just did the Gr.3 race at the 'Ring and started 9th of 15 cars, finished 5th and got my Clean Race Bonus.

One important thing to understand anytime you race against another person, regardless of the title, is that knowing the racing line and the braking points becomes only part of the story.

The racing line is the ideal way through a corner, but its not the only way and if someone is already on it you have to either follow at a slower speed or look for an alternative route. You also have to anticipate those behind you may be doing the same (or may be an idiot).

Its similar wit braking points, particularly at the start of a race if you are not at the front of the grid, that point is going to be a lot further back that you think, as everyone will be reacting to the car in front braking, and a ripple effect comes into play.

Experience of racing against GT AI is also more of a hindrance unfortunately, as they are very passive and will submit to you very easily. People don't and are arguably far more unpredictable.

Oh and use the radar and rear view - knowing who is where is critical.

I'm currently yo-yoing between C and B and I know when I'm going to get rammed! Even if I don't fight too hard because they have a run on me they still think they need to push me off! You see them in your mirrors as you approach a braking point and just know they're fully intending on barging past with no intention of a clean pass.

Some people defend way too aggressively too, did smile earlier though. Closing in on someone I moved towards the inside before straightening back up - they dived across to cover the inside and I tootled past as they flew off the track! :D

Well, to be fair, some people mess up their lines and brake to a crawl on some of these tracks. There have been racers parking in the 3rd turn of the n200 race this week. I rear-ended a guy there today, he had his bbq going and was opening up a beer in that turn. I guess technically it was my fault but it didn't seem avoidable from my end.

I have been bumped from behind several time today all in heavy braking conditions at good speed and i was surprised how my car react well to this, staying almost on his line, just needed a little correction at the wheel.
By another way, in the last right corner on Nurb GP, the guy in front of me brake very early and i was not anticipating staying on an alternative driving line ( my fault ) , then i bump it lightly , i was in second gear not very fast, and the other car for my surprise , fly away almost reaching an orbital high.
When i looked back , he was in the rail after crossing all the sand trap. Very strange move.

Probably caused by lag or latency. That's why it's always a good idea to leave a good space between you and a competitor when over taking or braking etc. Many times lag will cause a hit much harder then you did on your screen because the game calculated two cars in the same space and one get booted out of that Space quite hard.

Close racing is where the fun is in my opinion, i did this all the rest of the day without any problems. In the way to let a good space , i prefer changing my driving line to avoid a dangerous proximity. This is the main problem when you race sport mode. In an online room with friends that you know the way to drive and the guys your, close racing can take fantastic proportions in this conditions.

In his case , sure the gap could be extremelly small, but everybody have his own gap to fill during a race. One more time, this is where the fun is for sure. Drive clean and have fun.

I got a 10 second penalty because a driver crashed into wall bounced back on track sideways and didn't ghost out. Dropped from a blue A to a red A. I can get it back up no problem. Another issue online is people brake checking or braking early on purpose in hopes of disrupting the person behind them from overtaking or catching up. This seems to be a very common method employed by people. Even those with high SR ratings. Some drivers are very clean and allow each other to overtake when the driver behind is going faster. I am one of those, I'm not going to block someone or brake check them. The tracks are really narrow and hard to overtake on.

I don't mind all that, but most of all I hate that tuned setups are allowed on Sport mode. Should have been fixed setup everything. Now you have people who aren't better drivers than anyone else winning. Not everyone has time to play around with different setups on different tracks to see what is perfect. It's just really annoying, should be left for online lobbies only, not online Sport mode.

Unfortunately, he said this to try and justify him crashing out Prost at Suzuka.

For me, if you no longer respect your opponent then you are no longer a racing driver. We play these games together. Ultimately it's more important to walk away from a good race than it is to get one position higher at the expense of someone else.

Dropped from a blue A to a red A.
It doesn't quite work like that

Blue/red are indicators of your SR movement in that race. Blue indicates an increase in SR for that race, red indicates a decrease in SR for that race.

The letter is your post-race ranking.

So in this instance you remained an A-ranked driver, but lost SR in that race.

I'm pretty sick of being punted with no penalty to those behind. I have been punted 4 out of the last 5 races today. I actually lose more because I drive too clean. It's pissing me off. Plus...getting slammed off the road when I have the line and am ahead. Just run me right off and take the win, Seabass.

Its annoying, but its possiable to do.

If you are not already doing so, use the radar and rear view, most people don't bother, but they can help a lot with these kind of situations.

This is a race I recorded this week as an example:

As its an oval the need for situational awareness is vital, and while not as good as a spotter app (come on PD - open up GTS to UDP support) the radar and rear view were vital to making this a clean race for me. They are not going to save you from every idiot, but they do help a lot.

Your point of view.
The gap where there .
There is many way to crash out somebody . I prefer the Senna one.

If I'm in p2 and a driver is "faster" then me I have every right to respectfully close the door but many people online think this is "brake checking" when to block the inside you must brake more to stay on the inside line. And you actually have to exaggerate this because people will squeeze through an opening you didn't give them at the expense of sr. Not many people actually know how to battle an opponent properly. And most people are artificially fast with the help of a gtr so they are extremely inconsistent and run off track and miss braking zones and use it's unbalanced stats to make up for it. They almost never make good race pace. I'm usually very consistently paced less then a second variations between each lap that's being fast. Especially if fuel and tire wear were a thing. Just my. 02c

My method is to drive defensively and always to expect the worst can (and will) happen at any time. Look out for the other guy instead of trying to run everyone over. I’m not the fastest and probably brake for corners earlier than average especially at tracks where I’m less proficient, but this seems to work rather than forcing the issue and creating a pileup in the corners. Leave room when possible in the corners and take the wider line and go through the corners slower side by side if needed.

What it comes down to is, unless you are significantly off the pace, it’s up to the drivers in the rear to watch out for cars ahead. So,if you’re extremely slow and unsteady you probably shouldn’t be racing until you can maintain a reasonable pace. You should refrain from thinking (nor should you expect) every race will result in a win. Patience is a virtue but difficult to practice.

Your point of view.
The gap where there .

It's not just my point of view, it's also that of Ayrton Senna. He admitted in an interview that he was going to be first through the corner or he was going to make sure that Prost didn't make it.

https://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2010/10...t-prost-at-suzuka-1990-japanese-gp-flashback/

I said to myself, “OK, you try to work cleanly, and you get ****** by certain people. All right, if tomorrow Prost beats me off the line, at the first corner, I will go for it and he better not turn in because he’s not going to make it.” And it just happened.
Ayrton Senna

You're not arguing with me when you say he didn't crash Prost out. You're arguing with Senna himself. I think he knows better than you.

There is many way to crash out somebody . I prefer the Senna one.

And there's my problem with how you view racing. You seem to think that there's a "correct" way to crash people out.

I prefer not crashing people out at all.

Then again, your flag says you're Brazilian and Ayrton Senna is basically a national hero, so I don't expect you to be able to take an objective view and admit that some of his driving techniques were overly aggressive and dangerous. Amazing, amazing driver but a few times on track he took it too far (like most high level professional drivers, if we're honest), and it's just unfortunate that one of those times tends to get used as a example of good racing technique when it's anything but.

Did you know that a driver died in a crash at that corner in nearly identical circumstances just two years later? Look up Hitoshi Ogawa in Formula 3000 if you're curious. There are videos, but I won't post them here because it's distasteful to post fatal crashes directly.

I use the radar...oval really isn't comparable to the smaller width tracks. There are guys that literally run you off the road like Sea bass and Baxm.

Everyone blocks on the inside, I'm talking about blocking on the straight or when I take the inside and a driver on the outside decides to sideswipe me to try preventing me from going ahead. Believe me the brake checking happening is not in order to maintain inside line, it is brake checking before a chicane to try to disrupt rhythm of driver about to overtake. And because of setup tuning, they gain the speed back out of the corner and straights. Without tuned setup, they would mess up and lose their position.

Experienced this as well, whenever I overtake get sideswiped and pushed off the track by some drivers. One guy flat out punted me from behind after I overtook him. Messaged him about it, he responded : "You were getting aggressive, no hard feelings, lol". Well indeed LOL, dude. I was being aggressive because you kept trying to block me for 2 full laps with dangerous moves. Overall though the majority of my experiences have been good.

Ahh, lol I've had that too I just followed there pace and waited for a good moment to pass. Sometimes they just plain run off track especially in the gr3 it's 10 laps with fuel and tire wear. I usually run a 80-90% pace to save tires and get easy passes when all the try hards slide off track from lower weight and worn tires.
