I think I know why they don't release it now. Its because they're working on the trophies system :D
Seriously I think they're waiting for the holiday season.
CAN I HAS PLATINUM TROPHIES PLZZZ !!!!111!!!!!11!!!

I think they are waiting to sell all the GT5p inventory now since they just reduced the price. Hope they sell out fast...LOL

I love gaming journalism, first a HUGE headline stating something (N4G needs this for clicks) and then the truth somewhere in the text.

Gran Turismo 5 Gets UK Release Date

.... We’ve checked our usual Sony press sources and there’s no confirmed date from them yet....

...so a late 2009 release does hold some weight - here’s hoping....

 Pure gold.

Sony and PD may well think they can continue pissing off gamers with an awfully expensive system and desperate lack of news for their major title, but the industry thinks otherwise.

At E3 Sony should have announced a PS3 price cut, while PD should have wowed the public and made Turn 10 weep with a stunning, in depth, GT5 demonstration, but neither occured. The system price and lack of GT Mobile back in the day are the two major contributing reasons the PSP has been a relative flop, history seems to be repeating itself with the PS3 and GT5.

 I will not start arguing about that one.
But i KNEW i would see this posted from exactly you in one of the GT5 threads where it really doesnt belong.

Im guessing some of the hardest work will be refining the performance point system. Assigning PP values to all the cars as well as various tunes for each car respectively. Nothing worse than having one car dominate every race within a certain PP range. I cant imagine how many hours it will take to test all the possible combination's to weed out these cars.

I hope their spending alot of time on things like this. The worst part of online gaming are exploits. No doubt there will be some but knowing KY is a perfectionist is reassuring. A polished game is a game with few exploits.

If PD polishes the PP system until its perfect, they will polish it forever and we will never see GT5, because i think it will be impossible...it depends too much on the track, so they would have to take that into their PP calculations for every track

You know what this tells me? I have not played gt5p in a long time, but I think I remember when A lotus was widely used. Now, for the life of me, I can't understand sticking with the best car in a game like this, just to win over other players. I play with the cars I want to, I try to adjust to other players by trying to choose a car on the same level, but I will never even think about getting the BEST car. This thinking is weird for me, relating to players of play the game like this...

We are the same... i have been racing online for quite some years and it always amazes me how people will ALWAYS stick with the same car.
Even friends of mine, same car over.. and over.. and over again, just because it is the fastest car of the game.

So boring, PGR2 for example.. what was it, the TVR speed twelve? everybody had the same car, and i always took pride in the fact that i would then take the A class pagani zonda and still get in the top 3.. that's fun for me, but to each it's own i guess.

Sony is ****** if they start losing third party support, so Yamauchi's claim GT5 could be released at any time, combined with the lack of news and release date, in the face of Forza 3 competition, show's a staggering lack of foresight from PD and Sony.

E3's come and gone, Sony were going to steal the show, GT5 was going to be the star of the show ('all will be revealed by E3 at the latest'), instead Microsoft wowed with Natel and Forza 3 hit in playable form with an imminent release date.

if they start losing third party support
IF, but they dont, Activision is talking nonesense.
You seem to forget that Quantic Dream is third party, Rockstar makes a PS3 exclusive because they need the tech for it and so on.

But like i said i wont argue anymore, because the whole thing is completely stupid.

I think this is the hardest part of developing the game itself. The man hours needed to actually drive all the cars to see who has the advantage and who hasn't. This is why I think the GT series is most successfull compared to other games out there they do try hard to perfect the physics more than anything else and that is why I think they are taking so long. Kaz has always said if there is bias between cars then he is not doing his job well enough. If he just wanted to make a quick buck he would have release the game a long time ago. But that's not his style.

I disagree with so many things you have said in your post.

For starters I don't think Sony or PD are P*ssing off gamers because I don't think the PS3 is an expensive system neither do I think Sony are relying just on GT5. I used to think the PS3 was expensive but since I have purchased a decent HDTV, surround sound system, I can fully enjoy what Blu ray has to offer.

I always said to my friends that the PS3 will one day overtake the 360 and in some ways the system was ahead of its time. That day is becoming closer because its becoming pretty obvious to me being a 360 owner that the system isn't moving forward with regards to games and seems to have reached its limit. However looking at PS3 games at E3 you can clearly see the system is starting to produce games the 360 could never do.

I was going to say this on the xbox forums but I didn't think It would go down too well!, but MS are making a big mistake which will become apparant in around 2-3 yrs time. I think its safe to assume that both MS/Sony aren't going to develop new consoles and will continue to upgrade the current generation. However like I say the 360 has reached its limit and unfortunately MS believe the future is digital downloading. Unfortunately this won't be the case for example why would I pay £5 to download a 1080P HD movie when I can rent a Blu ray film which will be far superior for £2. Furthermore I don't think many ISPS will be happy downloading this huge amount of data!

Remember me saying this but over the next few years the PS3 will become dominant and the sheer difference between 360/PS3 games will become apparant when GT5 is released. This is why PD are making sure GT5 is perfection because its really going to illustrate what the PS3 is really capable of. This is why I couldn't understand why Turn 10 made such comments at the E3 show because I feel they are going to regret it.

Just want to add that im not a fanboy of any kind. I actually play on my 360 alot more than my PS3 at the moment. However I have played video games since the mid 1980's and its pretty clear to me what is going to happen over the next 10 yrs and although I haven't seen GT5 yet I just know its going to blow everyone away.

Finally I will say that digital downloading will be the future but not for another 20-30yrs. When will all have 50-100mb connections which are completely unrestricted then yes this will be the way forward.

Natal was shown to be a lot of smoke and mirrors. As for SONY doing horribly at E3...

So that's 6 awards to Ms, 14 to SONY, who even scored on a PC game! But I suppose Ms does better for having a bunch of multiplat games which can also be had on PC and... PS3? ;)

Also, Uncharted 2 "Best Graphics Tech" at E3 for IGN + Gamespot + Gametrailers
In fact, SONY racked up far more awards than Microsoft did at this year's E3, and at the Tokyo Game Show, you know SONY is going to have a bunch of accolades which Microsoft can't hope to touch.

The only thing I can think of which is cheezing "everyone" is that many people want a PS3 price cut, but they act like it's never going to come, which is daffy.

Those are only nominations for the different categories, not the awards themselves. According to the article you linked to, the nominees will be judged against each other and the winners announced on June 23.

Back on topic: my guess is that they are waiting for the "opportune moment," whatever that may be in their minds.

I don't neccessarily disagree with much of what your saying, particularly on the Blu-ray/downloads side, but I'm talking about the PS3 as a games machine.

I'm buying a 360 to play Forza 3, Race Pro and Left for Dead, it's a cheap option to get some great games. How many 360 owners can afford a PS3, your not telling me the PS3 wouldn't be far better positioned if at E3, or the not too distant future, Sony announced a £50/$100+ price cut and a 2009 release date for GT5?

I do wonder why PD believe starving the fanbase of info is such a great idea, while MS/Turn 10 and EA/SMS release a steady stream of news.

Gran Turismo has mainstream appeal like a Mario or Halo title, but you can't take that for granted, the last few GT games haven't performed as well as earlier incarnations in the US, if that is replicated with GT5, and European sales are held back by a relatively small userbase compared to the PS2 days, you start asking questions, can PD devote 4-5 years to a single GT title if the rewards are not mega, Halo like, sales?

I really do believe Yamauchi believes he's teasing the GT fanbase and upping anticipation for GT5, when in reality he's pissing off many of the more casual GT fanbase, and fueling 360 and Forza 3 sales.

In this age of 24/7 news and instant gratification, the Sony/PD approach looks outdated, us GT enthusiasts will wait, but it's sales to millions of casual gamers that enable PD to invest, and spend so much time, producing GT titles.

Yeah, I know a guy who is a big fan of GT4 and the GT series in general. He was waiting for GT5 to get a PS3, and just a couple of weeks ago he finally caved in and bought an xbox 360 instead, partly because it already has Forza 2 and Forza 3 has a definate release date, and also partly because the Xbox 360 is about $450 for a pro console with a couple of games compared to $700 for an 80gb PS3 with a couple of games.

He's a huge fan of GT and has always owned playstations, though he's not obsessive enough about it to read into things like Amar's cryptic post and hang out watching E3 coverage just to be impressed by a short trailer and KY saying "we can release it when we want" but not actually giving a release date.

REAL GT fans, like myself, can and will wait because we know it's going to be a HUGE game and will blow anything else out of the water. I've waited before, I'm waiting now, and I can wait some more.

That guy is going to cry when gt5 is comes and he sees how cool(hopefully) it is.

Hehe, he'll learn his lesson.:):)

Call me crazy but I just don't get the excitement about Forza, especially Forza 3. I have Forza 2 for the 360, I played it when I got it (it came with the 360 I got, I bought the 360 to play Halo 3), and I found the game to be very average, specifically because of the sheer lack of varied tracks and the EXTREME lack of drivers per race. The game only had 8 cars per race, both Off and Online. Yet none of the Forza people ever want to mention the fact that their beloved Forza game has a laughable 8 cars per room. I figured with all the development time put into Forza 3 and all the hype surronding it, I thought for sure they would have upped the drivers per race. I was wrong! What kind of "next-gen" game can honestly be boasted about when it has less drivers online then Mario Kart Wii? They couldn't even manage to put more than 8 cars on the track offline. As a matter of fact, I do believe the Forza series has the dubious title of having the least number of cars per race for ANY next-gen licensed racing game. I don't care how good any other part of the game is, the core of the game is racing, and if the racing is totally uninspired with only 8 cars on track, why buy it?

Well to be fair to Forza if Gran Turismo 5 still had 6 cars on track at a time I would still buy it just as I will with 16.
It seems Forza devs decided they needed to increase the eye candy to try and compete with other "current gen" games visually which probably put a hamper on adding more cars.

You do realise that up until GT5:P the GT series never featured any races with more than 6 cars on the track don't you?
