Software Update v1.01 pops out... **UPDATE**

Just realized, this will be the first (full) game in the series that a notorious "fiddler" like Kaz will actually be able to tinker with after release. Could be a good thing.

True, probably some polyphony guys are looking now at our forum, taking notes and creating a new patches

It wouldn't suprise me at all. Alot of game creators get lots of feedback from online forums. I don't think they are creating patches as we speak based on this forum....but rather taking notes for future patches.

They have a valid point. Stop whining.

So do I. Get your priorities straight. This is trivial BS that has been in Prologue for years. It wasn't mentioned in reviews and shouldn't be in reviews of GT5. If every second of GT5 the shadows are bothering you, you shouldn't be playing this game. Patching the shadows? Fine. Just patch other issues first.

Physics > Shadows. Fact. See PC racing simulation games.

So you're saying physics need to be patched? If not, why are you bringing it into a conversation about things needing patching?
You're really just being childish now. Let me join.

I'm saying people should concentrate on the actual gameplay rather than trivial issues that didn't bother players in the first place. What don't you get about my statements? Hanging to every word is a sign of being desperate. You're dissecting me like they're doing with GT5.

Am I being childish? Really? I'm sorry your maturity level only includes your own satisfaction. I'm speaking for the people that actually want PD to concentrate on the physics to be improved. If you think that PS3 physics calculations are the most prestigious and superior, even in the upcoming years up to PS4 and PS5, then you're delusional.

Unless GT5 measures brake fade, there would be little-to-no benefit to upgrading the brakes in GT5 either. GT4 was unrealistic because it didn't measure brake fade. It was not unrealistic because the upgraded brakes didn't decrease stopping distances or whatever.

Of course there will be a benefit in upgrading your brakes. You're telling me a little mini cooper caliper has the same stopping power as an eight piston brembo caliper? Even if fade is not present we should be able to upgrade the brakes to stronger ones don't you think?

You do know that the brake upgrades were basically useless in GT4. There was extensive testing done, and the brake upgrade did little to nothing to help the car slow down.

You obviously have no clue what brake upgrades do. Racing brakes don't make your car stop any faster than normal brakes until you've used them for 2-3 laps. The TIRES determine how fast you can stop, upgrading brakes it to stop fade.

The reason it's one of the first components people upgrade is because a few laps on stock brakes cooks them all to crap and they either fade to near uselessness and almost get you killed or outright fail and definitely get you killed.

Upgraded brakes are just bigger, have more thermal mass and a larger diameter which pumps more air though the vents keeping them cooler.

I've seen many tests of bbk's that actually increase the stopping distance due to increased unsprung weight and brake balance that is a bit off from stock, but they always greatly out perform stock brakes on the track when the extra cooling keeps them from killing you.

Let's not turn what's otherwise an important, informative thread into another bout of telling other members what they should and shouldn't deem "trivial". Problems are problems, and they should be patched regardless of which portion of the game they are found in. It's a fair assumption PD can see at least as much as what we all can, y'know ;).

Keep it civil, guys.

I agree with everything but one thing. Upgraded brakes do help you stop quicker. If on street tires you slam on the brakes with stock or racing brakes most likely they will both lock (no ABS). But if you have racing tires on, the bigger brakes are gonna stop the car in a shorter distance.

I thought this stuff was common knowledge guys.

Anyone know if this update will unlock the game saves? This is huge for me because my PS3 is broken and i will have to borrow my nephews for a few weeks until i can get my own.I am going to be mad if i have to start from scratch when i get my new PS3.

You don't understand either, yes we're telling you it has exactly the same stopping power, if you can lock up the tires/ activate the ABS which 100% of cars can do from the factory, you are capable of using 100% of the tires grip to slow the car.

The only reason the brembos have 8 pistons is because they are huge to have enough thermal mass/cooling for racing use. huge diameter rotors require a pad with more surface area in order to not provide too much torque and be super touchy, bigger pads can wear unevenly, hence the 8 pistons of different sizes which equalizes the pressure applied to the giant pad. Larger calipers also give you more thermal mass in the brake fluid in the caliper, and more caliper surface area both of which reduce the risk of boiling the fluid and getting fade.

Some rally cars used to actually run water cooled calipers and some race cars actually use recirculating brake fluid systems to keep fluid temps down.

I predicted a patch coming out...I'm sure I posted it already on another post.

Well at least I can do everything in one go before I start playing...Jus waiting for the postman.

I think the lucky folk who have got the game prior to the update will be able to comment whether there is an actual improvement on the physics. For the rest of us it will seems as if thats just how it is. Either way I can't wait....lets get GT5 rolled out to everyone...waited long enough...The whoile reason why I bought my PS3 is finally here

Na, you can lock racing tires on stock brakes, you have a lot more braking torque than needed even in a stock setup(on any decent or modern car, obviously we aren't talking muscle cars which had drums at the front stock...). Additionally racing brakes usually size the pistons/pads/rotors to give you a brake torque close to stock level (usually very slightly more to reduce throw/ increase ease of modulation), if you don't you get an overly twitchy pedal.

The only way racing brakes would stop you faster is in a car with no abs and if the driver felt they had a better "feel" than the stockers and thus could modulate them better, but that is entirely subjective and depends on how the driver wants his brakes to feel. the point is the full grip of the tire is available to both brakes so an abs system/good driver could stop equally fast on both of them.
