Sound improvements

i'm speeachless .. DTS 7.1 , PCM...

as i said earlier every aspect of sound changes when you turn from living room to Small theatre/large theatre ....

Especialy you can hear better animal roar with doppler effect in tuned z .. it is just soo good :)

kudos PD !!!

AND THIS IS 200 MB Demo !! Flower takes like 600 megs ,demo of mushroom wars like 300 mb ...

I think to judge sound, you need to hop in prologue again. I was playing prologue as i was downloading the time trial. So my ears went from A to B. The GT5t has a serious sound improvement. Dare I say, the first thing that came to mind was GTR? The transmission whine is there, the wind noise, the engine/exhaust tones aren't as synthesized. Just the "cage" of the vehicle, the bumps, the rumble strip, yes it was all upgraded. The tire screech really depends on your driving. You can even observe this watching KY himself(as he seems to be a pretty careful driver) on the ring. Yeah, you get it in some long stretch corners, but if you're screeching the whole time, the problem is user input. Even then, the tire screeching isn't as obnoxious. The flyby Doppler noises are great, and im sure it can only improve with a higher res file.

I was definitely pleased to hear the sounds. The difference in depth with the 370z, to the race spec one is definitely distinct.

I too am denying the claim about tire noise. Try not being WOT through all turns.
This.

God damn it I can't wait, the more I heard the more impatient I get!!
What is transmission whine anyways? Anyone care to explain?
Well, while I am waiting for the demo, I will be playing gt5p using a regular 350z and a tuned 350z on the modified Daytona course...that way I will be able to compare it well. Can't wait!!

Dont have sound on my PC atm but i think you can hear the transmission whine pretty good in this video (please tell me if not). Its that high pitched noise you hear while accelerating.

Of course GT5 doesnt sound that brutal though. ;)

Does changing the dynamic range to large theater do anything if you dont have surround sound? I have it hooked up to a powerful sound system but not surround sound, what setting should I put it on?

I have a pretty good stereo sound system here and used small theater in Prologue, tried that in the demo but it didnt sound right (too damped), i just use living room now.

The best would be to try it out for yourself.

Top Gear laps are a more apt demonstration of real-life tyre squeal imo.

Real-life squeal mostly depends on the surface the car is on and to a lesser extent the tyres that are fitted. You can't pin point one type as realistic or unrealistic and thats it.

Simply put, the transmission whine is caused by "Spur" gears (commonly called "strait cut"). The noise comes from the contact patch between the two gears, which is much bigger on "Spur" gears as opposed to "Helical" gears that you find on a normal road car. "Helical" gears have only a single contact point rather than a patch, which is why road cars are more quiet.

I hope that answered your question!

So many people complain about the tire noise... I have to assume many of them have never driven a real car through a corner at the limits of their tires' grip.

Actually, I've drifted the following cars:

Audi S4 (unintentionally, using Michelin Pilot Sports and Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position S03s)
Porsche Boxster - intentionally, Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position S03s
Nissan 350Z - intentionally, Kumhos (high performance summer ones, forgot their names)

My key is that Polyphony Digital should provide different tire options. Not all tires scream at the limit once traction is broken. In fact, only the Michelins were annoying loud. The 10K mile lasting but best grip S03s make kind of a tire "shuffling" noise when traction is broken. The noise isn't very loud, but people still keep their distance if they see your car sideways. The road was cold and it was unintentional...:)

I have also rode in a old Porsche on slicks (full race setup, roll cage, multiple point harness belts, etc). It also made the "shuffling" noise when drifting 180 degree turns at 60mph. Polyphony, are you listening?!

I don't know exactly what a 350Z sounds like IRL, but the sounds are feeble compared to Shift. Of course, the 350Z probably isn't the most exciting-sounding car IRL either. I'm a bit surprised they didn't choose a little sexier car to feature in the demo, but then again KY & Nissan have a thing going ...

But the Z in the demo is a 370 ;)

Stock:

Not the most inspiring, I'll admit, but not boring either :P

I like how there's this whole thread about sound, and the games share exactly 0 cars in common. :D
Tire noise is different, but different tires (IRL) make different sounds, so anyone claiming this ones better than that, etc, is just uninformed. Some of you would be very surprised to learn some tires don't squeal at all when sliding. ;)

The wind noise seems quieter, which I like, because whether that sound is there for real or not, it's not something you conciously hear while racing, so it should be toned down.

Somebody wanna give me a clip of the sound improvement from the 370Z in GT4, GT5P, compared to this demo?

So many people complain because the screeching is STILL massively overused, and is invoked at slow speeds that even a Fiat Panda would not screech at. Not only does it still sound unrealistic, it still isn't triggered correctly.

Seems like PD focussed so much on the driving that they forgot about graphics and audio. Those in denial will argue that only the driving matters. Those same people would be jumping with joy if the graphics were massively ramped up, claiming just how good they are blah blah blah. The rest of us just want a balanced game.

Excuse yourself. I can squeal my tires turning at 10 mph if I yank the hweel as fast as I can, you know, like pushing that button over so quickly?
Show us the game with better graphics, and maybe we'll care, until then, you're just another blabber mouth FM fanboy trying to piss off GT fans.

And for you guys above, could we please recognize the difference between a 350Z and 370Z?
And also, FYI, the 350, 370, and GTR all share a common engine, so yes, the GT-R should sound very much like the 370Z, maybe a bit quieter because of turbo's.

This is the internet. I race F1 cars for a living, so I am God all knowing. Of course, without solid proof, it doesn't mean squat does it?
But, nonetheless, your point is extremely valid. However, is multiple tire brand compounds, and their respective sound something you'd like to wait even LONGER for?
There's probably 1 brand they used, for it, and if I'm not mistaken, Michelin has been a GT sponser for... maybe for the entire existence, so they may very well have used michelins.

Sounds are very good way better than GT5P the tires sound way better, the exhuast and the idle are scary real!!! Some of my friends think its real cars park outside lol. The transmission whine sounds soo good very please PD thank you! When cornering hard the tire skip sound is sick it really sounds like your pushing the car to the limit. This is only the demo i know GT5 is going to sound better.

Set up 5.1 optical connection small theater 👍

I can't speak for you, but I hooked it up to a Sony 1000-watt home theater, and honestly, it sounds awful.
Not because the tires, engine, or anything else doesn't sound real, but because wind is the only thing you can hear over 60-70 mph.
Just one big constant drone of a woofer, droning along, god forbid you hit a rumble strip BBBBBBBBB!!!! holy crap that'll wake ya up.

hahah i know what you mean but this was more with GT5P then the demo. In GT5P the sound of the wind was just to loud and deep in the Demo this is not the case. only thing i hear is moto,r transmission, and exhuast, it sounds so damn good!!!

Not for me, all I get is droning, vibrating wind still.
I guess maybe I'll try "large" home system in GT-TT demos settings?

Try the different settings. You mayt have to adjust volume levels on your amp?

Mine is stereo, through the hi-fi on the top audi setting in the GT options. Sounds very good. Hooked it up to my brother's 5.1 system and changed to small theatre and that was incredible.

The bass when revving between 1000 and 2000 rpm is insane.

:nervous:

Ooooh, FM fanboy eh?! Do I own an Xbox 360? Er, no. Have I ever owned an Xbox of any kind? Er, no. Still, you won't believe me anyway, nor the fact that I've owned every major PlayStation console and release of Gran Turismo to date... Grow up.

So you can squeal your tyres at just 10 mph eh? I guess my bog-standard Golf GTI and its low profile 18" tyres must be a bit more capable than yours... They have improved things in this demo, but it still doesn't take much to get the tyres screeching.

Generally speaking, Dirt 2 has better graphics than this time trial. So what? I guess if I was a blabber mouth FM fanboy trying to piss off GT fans, my time would not have been wasted judging by your childish overreaction

Take it easy boys.
GT5D sucks in terms of physics, who cares about the sound..

My dad's old e-type is just like that in speeds after 70 mph. You can hear some engine noise if you are between 4700---6000rpm. But anyways if car does not have very good sound insulation, wind is the major sound component in high speeds.

When i did kick-down one time to overtake two cars at same time in c-class merc (2008), major noise at 160-170 kph was from the supercharged four pot. I think tyre noise should be higher than wind noise in new cars but it is quite hard tell the differense in those. And as i said engine was the loudest in this case.
