I have already read it 3 time, that´s why I´ve made that question...

I believe that the question in this thread was "when can we expect a sound upgrade?" and not
"How do you guys record yours sounds?"
You'd almost think it will be talked about in the upcoming parts.

I get the feeling there's going to be more than three parts.

In order to lay down some context for what things have been done differently in the new method, it seems only sensible to explain the old method first.

This actually surpasses my expectations; that is, I didn't personally need any of this. It's interesting for the, uh, "brand", certainly.

Anyway, I can't wait for more technical postings. Part 2 mentions intake, and part 1 shows a clear demonstration that they understood what they did wrong for their first attempt at sample recordings (before GT4). :D

I'm curious as to whether there are any cars in GT6 already that has engine sounds recorded with the new method. I see the LFA being recorded presumably with their new method, which is worrying because the LFA doesn't sound right.

Nevertheless, I am surprised that Kaz is the one answering these questions (I assume with the help of a translator). I would've expected someone to write on his behalf. Definitely a good move by PD and KY.

The LFA still uses the old method.

The Senna and Red Bull cars are the ones to watch. Something tells me these blog posts were prepared some time ago.

First off, I'm done with exams, which means more videos and more nonsense for me to write on the forums:dunce:

Second off, the news of the updates and PD paying attention definitely is a good start to my holiday.

Third off, I'm happy this is being addressed. Kudos to all. Now my favourite Subaru will growl like the real life beast counterpart

Fourth Off, I'm positive about this. I think in the later parts the breakthrough will be explained. For now I rate it 'sounds' promising.:gtpflag:

It says it is to be continued, that means it will be continued. Do you not know what happens when things are split up into parts? They get continued later. That doesn't mean they gave half an answer and just stopped working on it.

Well stuff like this always happens. I've seen people on this site who never respond positive to anything. What really baffles me is that those three people fail to understand ''to be continued''.

total missunderstanding, I was simply explaining it to you, since your comment very much made it look like YOU didn't know the meaning of continued.

I didn't know the meaning of continued because I said there wasn't a half answer since the post was only one part? Sure.

It does sound promising, this is the start of a great era for GT if they take advantage of this community and leave behind old ideas and ways of thinking, not with GT6 though, GT6 is what it is and they will continue supporting it but their real "quantum leap" starts on next-gen.

Obviously english isn't your first language so please understand that you statement is misleading, that is all.

I never said or implied that you don't know the meaning, only that the wording of your comment made it look that way. two very different things.

Your comment was "how do you know its half an answer" which I took to mean how do you you know theres more. but really you're just refering to a sort of "percentage answered".

Hope that can alleviate the confusion.

What method does Polyphony Digital's sister studio Evolution Studios use?

The Gran Turismo 6's Lotus 97T sounds fantastic.

The link above just gave me eebee geebees, I wish GT7 would have these sounds as I am not investing a PS4 other than perhaps Driveclub, PCARS, The Crew or GT7 is out, I don't touch GT6 because I would love to drive the cars around but the off putting sound just puts me off and doesnt give me that satisfaction at all. It's one draw back I have against GT6.

Glad they have the pitstop website now to show us the progress of how the engine sounds have progressed over the years.

If GT7 does not match or better driveclub or Pcars for sounds, no way I am getting GT7, I reluctantly got GT6 and disappointed, don't touch it even when there are updates, I don't care for new cars or tracks, if the sounds are not there, does not give me that immersive feeling that I have with the car.

Even if the old cars had good sounds, id be happy driving around, doing races, but i've not bothered with raes that I can do as the sounds just annoy me, knowing they don't match to how it should sound!

I am the same. As much as I love the physics of GT, there are cars in the game that I just cant drive. The Holden Commodore SS (being an Aussie, I had to buy one) with the racing exhaust sounds that bad that I cant bring myself to drive it.

It doesnt even sound like any car engine I have ever heard.

It says "Answered" but where is the answer? Do I have to find the blog to find the answer? There should be a link in here to it if that's the case, no?

Or am I just missing the "Answer" somewhere in here? LOL

I saw the question marked as answered and had the same thought, that I was finally going to have a rough timeline or date. The question marked as "answered" led to a let down (of sorts), for me.

We have a response from Kaz. Very Cool....Informative...but definitely not an answer. Positive is...... Kaz is responding and hopefully we'll have something more soon.

If this offends someone, it just my opinion. I'm not trying to hate on Kaz or Poly. I'm pretty sure Kaz didn't mark the forum as answered. I'm also not trying to hate of the site admin either.

Before you type you rage response, consider this -

You go to the doctor because the results of a test to determine if you have cancer are in. The Dr explains how tumors grow, and explains the difference between malignant & benign tumors. Then tells you we'll talk more in a month. Would you consider that "answered"?

TBH no need too far looking at GT7. Just hear the Lotus 97T.

Now our only hope is they updated the rest.

The 97T is a step in the right direction but IMO they have much more work to do relative to other next gen games. I'm looking forward to Kaz continuing with the background of GT sounds to date, and then helping us look to the future to see what's coming.

I came here to post the same thing. There have been no answers from Kaz to any of the questions posted in the OP of this thread. Very premature to say the least for the mods to mark this as answered.

I mean for the example, most of the new cars in GT6 sounds just like PD left the "placeholder" (CopyPaste) sound present from the Demo. PD said it just a "placeholder" to be replaced in the update.

That's what I'm worried about. Where is it? When we finally get an update for the sound? If PD can't update a small group of cars, how can PD provide for the rest?

None of those questions have been answered. At the moment Kaz is just posting stuff about how they capture the sound.

Sad isn't it, PD are so silent that when they finally do say something we automatically assume that they're answering our questions!

Answer the actual questions that were asked here please Kaz.

Wait for the part three then. It will be posted not far from this day.

OP updated for your convenience.

Agreed.

For comparation, this is how Forza sound recorded:
mazda787bforza.jpg

Its, pretty much the same actually. But the big difference is Forza has a fan thingy (to create wind sound?).

no that fan is just for cooling

It's on the blog. The blog answers the questions.

The question is answered in multiple parts. How did you forget to read the part where it says ''to be continued''? Did you not read it to the end? If so, how do you know there is no answer?

Thank you. 👍

Sigh.... I actually LIKE the sounds as-is....

Can we have an option for "real" and, for those who want to lose their hearing, "loud"?

Maybe I'll make another question.

But the current sounds are nothing like 'real' with a few exceptions.

The 97T is indeed decent but it's still missing all the extras, the pops, the crackles, the spits, the 'imperfect' sounds of a combustion engine.
Those bits will be easy once the new method is up and running properly. I got a simple pop generator working within 5 minutes, then hacked in a pseudo fuel-map and ignition cut etc. and tuned it all together well within half an hour. But the thing I was feeding those pops through took years (on and off, in my spare time), and it's missing most of the sophistication PD's incomplete "new method" shows already in GT6.

The big achievement is that you think the 97T sounds decent, and I mean that without a hint of sarcasm, because it doesn't use samples - it uses said incomplete version of the new method. That is, as best as I can tell.
It's kind of a big deal, for me personally as much as anything else (it means I'm probably right about the direction sounds need to take in future games, assuming I'm right about PD's achievements).

With that kind of model, running with the full complement of controls and individual sources (intake...), PD will have achieved something quite amazing (technically). How it sounds overall, and from case to case, is another matter, and we may still have to wait until the PS4 for the full potential to be realised. There's still the accuracy of PD's data entry to consider, also.

But the 97T, the Ralt and the Red Bull cars all demonstrate the potential, and the direction PD is headed, if only technically. Where they're headed aesthetically is probably best inferred from other parts of the game; I personally doubt the over-saturation of the above mentioned cars is the end-result they have in mind, and that means they should be introducing more sources in order to better balance the overall result.

Do you think it's more than a coincidence that all of the cars using the new method are higher pitched Formula style cars?
