Speculation/Rumor: GT5 C-Spec

I'm not sure why anyone would think this was viable yet alone fun.

GT tracks since the first edition have always been glass corridors, the world footprints have been as small as possible to allow the greatest texture fidelity in the surrounding areas. Depth and distance are just illusions, they are just hi res sky domes and the likes. It is all incredibly well honed and this has meant the look of the game has always been superior to competing titles and other peer games on the platform - why would you lost a USP by making it open world and having to reduce down your model and texture details to cope with all the extra stuff you have to draw.

Then for the user there is the fun element. Why would open world be fun, most real life open world roads are not fun in the slightest and would not cater for high speed or indeed multi-car racing. Where you do have sections of real life road in notable places that would be fun, well PD have made tracks out of them already like London, Paris, New York etc.

And if there is one area of GT5 which does have a free roam element it's the Top Gear Test Track. Is that fun to see people scattering cones pointlessly and having to ghost so they are not running into each other on the runway at 200mph for laughs?

Yes, yes it is, as long as there are no idiots trying to drive X1's. I spend a lot of time "free roaming" on TGTT, it's a great place to meet up and chat or show off your cars, drag race, hot laps etc.
I can see a C-spec free roam mode being quite popular.

Not too keen on the livery editor idea, as someone has already pointed out, I do not want to see flames going up the side of Supras or rainbow unicorns.

Has no one seen any movies as American Graffiti or Dazed and Confused? Does no one have an imagination anymore? Cruising, even if in a videogame, is pretty fun. Also, I'd wish people'd stop comparing every free roam to GTA. There's more to open world driving than running over people and stealing cars. As detailed before, it'd be cool to just go along the coast by the ocean and through the dirt roads of the mountains or rural city streets. Obviously, I can't say what'll happen as I don't work there, but y'all have got to just relax and trust in Kazunori to do his job. Of course, there's online, you're not alone, for the most part.

I think this is a mode that has to wait until the next Playstation comes out.

A mode of that caliber just screams "MEMORY HOG" all over it.

Very good way to start off a bump to this thread, although I don't know how much longer this will last. Cruising is a lifestyle. Not seriously, but cruising is just enjoyable. Not having to be on edge all the time like in a race, C-Spec will be a dream.

YUUUUUUUUP. The next GT just might come out on PS4. If, as a lot of people say, the Vita is any indication of how devs will be able to make their games (with ease), then GT6 as a launch title for PS4 is realistic thinking this time around.

I don't think GT6 will be a launch title for the PS4. Think about it, GT1 and 2 came out on PS1. 3: A-Spec and 4 came out on PS2. And since Kaz said that GT6 will be made in less time, we could expect it to come out on PS3 (remember, GT4->GT5 was completely from scratch. GT3->GT4 wasn't).

What!!! you mean I could get to drive around on a racing game, not racing thanks; - eww imagine all the geeky role play servers, I think I just did a little sick in my mouth!

I understand that, it's just with the PS4 release being unknown, speculation about when GT6 will be released is worse/more difficult/more not possible than speculating anything GT5.

I would like for GT6 to be on PS4 because of the limitations PS3 has had on GT5 which was kind of why I wrote that. If the PS4 is as hard as it is to program for the PS3, so be it, GT6 should be on the PS3. I think if the 10 year life cycle of the PS3 means we won't get PS4 until after that, then it's definite that GT6 will be on PS3. If PS4 is released in under the next 2-3 years, it MIGHT be likely GT6 will be for PS4.

It comes down to/Bottom line is, does Sony know when they're going to release the PS4? I'm sure they'd let Kaz know, too, so the GT5 dilemma doesn't happen again. Also, PD were one of the first, if not the first, to get a "dev kit" ("tractor beam") for PS3.

My first racing game!!! (Well it was my dads) I remember calling it 'drive the beetle' and thinking the Panoz was the fastest car in the world, happy memories :)

Ummm, I dunno if this habe been discussed......but I have that copy of game informer and it's the "April Fools" edition. I was all hyped up too for this but then at the very bottom of the page in tiny writting it says it's an april fools joke......

We were able in prior versions to share driving with our B-spec drivers. Why did this go away? We also had better playback controls. Our transmissions were not settable right away. GT6 might not even have cars and tracks.

GT6 - the real walking around in a grassy field simulator.

Highly unlikely given that were now getting a Spec II to keep GT5 afloat until their next generation console, with GT6 no doubt to be a launch title (or within half a year at most). If you think about it GT5 released so late, there would be little point to release GT6 before PS3's life is closes (about 2 years from now).
Just because we had two previous GT's per console doesn't mean anything, cause we are now in High Definition times and it was said that GT5 already utilizes almost completely all PS3 processing power. So to release GT6 with no major room for improvement, it's gonna have to wait 'til the next Playstation to meet Kaz's standards.

I'm crying full of nostalgia *crying* This was the best game ever made, when games where fun and the Panoz was the legend 👍 I remember trying to jump that london brigde with the red bus

IMO is GT5 engine, look at the vectra and the corsa comfort.

I think is crazy but interesting idea.

No, there's no speculating.

It was a tech demo for The Getaway 3. Fact.

The Getaway 3 ended up being cancelled.

It's mixed really. Because Kaz said that GT5 is the "base" for GT6, so production time for GT6 would be shorter - this leads one to think that GT6 would be a PS3 title, but that would make little sense.

What the PS3 lacks is memory. It has a 512MB RAM. When it came out in 2006, that was poor for a PC at the time, and even worse for a games console that was dubbed "all-powerful".
The PS3 can barely run GT5, people will expect a lot for GT6 and with the PS3's limitations (didn't think I'd ever be typing that, especially 5 years ago) GT6 would turn out more like a GT5.5.

GT6 belongs on the PS4, maybe not as a launch title (people speculated that was a certainty for GT5 on the PS3 and it never happened, wasn't even close) but the game would be more suited to a more powerful console.
GT5 Spec 2.0 and the DLC will bring a lot to keep the game going, plus online gives the game unlimited potential (especially if you join a racing league).

Personally I'd rather have GT6 on PS3, that way my money wouldn't go to waste.

You think you'd have wasted your money because you only got 1 full GT game on a PlayStation console?

Considering each other system has 2 gamess per console I'd feel a bit ripped off. IDK

The PS3 is hard to develop for. The PS1 and the PS2 were considerably easier. As well as the fact that games these days generally take longer to make, it's highly unlikely we'll get GT6 on the PS3, in my opinion.

Times have changed.
