Buxton I could swear is not directly employed by SPEED. I believe he works for someone else and is "on loan" to SPEED.

Well I hope they do a good job there at NBC/NBC Sports Network, perhaps sending Hobbs and Matchet actually out to the races instead of calling it from the studio in the US. I thought Will Buxton did a good job bringing some young energy to the broadcast.

I'll miss Bob Varsha's commentating for sure. For us here in Canada, it's been nice to watch BBC's coverage Live through TSN (Toronto Sports Network) then SPEED Channels replay which I PVR'd during the night.

Now with NBCSN I'd have to get an additional cable upgrade package which likely won't happen. It was always nice to re-watch races. Oh well, good things don't last forever.

Just heard on Radio Le Mans' podcast that Varsha will be doing Grand Am next year on Speed...
No written source for this.

Good, I was wondering what would happen to Grand Am. Now it looks like FOX is going to keep it.
(Not that I watch any race outside of Daytona)

Why? I found his commentating to be bad compared to Diffy.

I just found his personality, and the fact that he's the only American on the team, to be more appealing. To me, he was the voice of F1 in America.

Agreed. Varsha will be sorely missed here. However, I love the back and forth between Hobbs and Matchett and Diffy won't lessen that. I can't wait for the 2013 season to begin.

For those who missed it today, SPEED's final send-off to their seventeen years of F1 programming.

Not sure if this is a sign of things to come, but the logo on the website has been shrunk and placed below a "Fox Sports" logo.

I'm still pretty young, but I can vaguely remember Speedvision. And boy do I miss it.

One night when I was very little, I was with my mom watching some sports cars or something on Speedvision. That was the night when I officially found racing and cars, and I've been completely hooked since that night.

I remember staying up until 8 (which was late for me back in the day) watching all sorts of weird races and stuff (I now know that these were WRC races and Road Course races, as I didn't know anything other than NASCAR existed at the time)

Even in the first few years of it being called Speed, I remember watching the Rolex Sports Cars in 2004 when Christian Fittipaldi ran out of fuel with only a few laps left at Barber Motorsports Park. It was times like these that made me want to do something with cars when I grew up.

Now, I can't believe it. While I like NASCAR, it's far too one-sided in how 9/10 of every show has to do with NASCAR. They don't ever really show the boat drag races or any of those crazy cool shows that they used to. Now it's just re-runs of old NASCAR Race Hub.

That makes me sad, I barely remember Speedvision and even I miss it, as well as the first few years of Speed. Despite my young age, my mom isn't here anymore. But in a way I'm glad, because she'd just be in pain to hear that the channel which has officially defined my life, is now going to be replaced, so lonely men in their man caves have another football channel.

But I'm just a stupid kid who's watched the channel my whole life. My loyalty doesn't compare to money in FOX's pocket, does it?

ESPN has gone through a different but equally lamentable evolution over the years. I miss the days when they broadcast Aussie rules football.

Very odd, I already have a dedicated Sports channel from fox. Why would they have to take my speed channel away? :grumpy:

I seem to have access to at least one, probably two. What's wrong with working on Fox Sports Net? We don't need Fox Sports 1 or whatever they'll call it.

I prefer ESPN myself. The only thing they have up on anyone else right now is that they have the Cavs games. I dont watch the NBA anyway so I dont watch FSO. Pac 12, Big 12, and Fifa wont do anything to attract me to Fox Sports. I guess they do have UFC which I enjoy, but if they take away my only motorsports channel I wont be watching even that.

The problem is that FSN is a network of regional channels which have contracts with pretty much every major sport outside of football. It would cost a ton to get rid of all those contracts not to mention the insane amount of fan backlash as most MLB, NBA and NHL games are broadcast via the FSN networks.

You can see all the deals they have here.

Granted they could still just leave Speed alone and make a completely new network.

Apparently they are still under contract to carry a motorsports channel with some cable providers.

Surprised no one has already mentioned this but the commentary team for F1 on NBC will be Leigh Diffey, David Hobbs and Steve Matchett. And as a bonus, Diffey will replace Bob Jenkins on the Indycar Broadcasts.

Having watched those races when Bob Varsha wasn't there, I think its a great fit and it tells me NBC is already deadset on doing F1 Justice 👍

At least I have NBC Sports Network so I can catch every race that's not on local NBC. Has anyone heard about where the other races (Touring Cars, etc) are going to be broadcast from?

Well, there is speed2.com for live racing events of the most popular types (f1, wrc etc), but if speed is completely dissolved along with their internet programs...I'm s*** outta' luck for racing.

I favor Varsha over Diffey, though. In fairness, that may just be because I'm used to his voice over my F1 broadcasts.

I feel the same as you on this. However, despite F1 not being the same without Varsha's unmistakable voice, I think Diffey is the best replacement there is for the position.
