Found this in the glovebox of my car, I thought it was pretty cool. Wonder if I can still take advantage of it.

Then I really had the urge to rip the car down some dirt roads this afternoon. Reminds me why I bought the car in the first place. Though it was pretty laughable how bad I am at sliding this thing. Hey it was my first time. XD

Annnnnd the car has been sold. :(

It's very sad to see it go, considering it is actually one of my dream cars and I wanted to keep the car until I die, but my reasons for selling it completely outweigh that at this time in my life. It's officially gone this weekend, so I still have a few days to enjoy it at least.

The dealer that inspected it for the buyer said it was (not even exaggerating here...) "the best maintained and cleanest STI to come through the dealer at that mileage (85,000 miles), which made me very proud and the buyer very happy. It's going to a good home, the buyer has a 996 Turbo and a 968 as well.

What's next? I buy a beater car for a while until I sort things out. It's been fun, thanks all of you that spent the time looking through this thread. I'll come back with something good someday.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

:(

I command you to go and buy it back.

And regardless of what 'beater' you buy still post it here, we're interested whatever car it is.

Yesterday I started with post 1 and over the course of several hours worked my way through this thread. I enjoyed watching what you did to the car and learned alot as I went. At two am this morning with great anticipation I finally made it to page 11. I was going to simply post  but then I saw your last post.

Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

Get an older Legacy, they're inexpensive but not cheap and fantastic fun in the winter without the worry of winter damage. IMHO

At least you had her. Better to have loved and lost...

I am going to miss your car. It is one of the cars on this site I always watched that kept inspiring me to get my blue 04 WRX.

I fully understand and I am in a similar situation. I mentioned before, I have been thinking a lot about selling my 04 WRX. Its my dream car and I loved it especially this brutal 2014 winter. But I am still in the process of either looking for newer WRX or an STI. I just don't like the 5 speed in my 04 WRX at all. It REALLY needs a 6 speed or need an automatic. The 5 speed is just junk IMO. Regardless it must be 05 or newer and blue. The other problem is mine is the "premium" edition which is very rare and almost impossible to find around this area.

Let us know which beater you get. Maybe it can still be a fun beater. Is it at least going to be AWD so you can enjoy the winter?

Thanks guys, I'm going to miss the car like crazy. It hasn't totally sunk in yet, since I'm still driving it for a few days.

Well, I may have bought my "beater" car today. Deal isn't finalized, but I gave the seller a deposit until my car is completely sold and done.

A 2.5 RS Coupe! One of my personal favorites and hard to find too. Not big on the color, but it looks better in person. It's also an auto, but whatever. Not bad for a beater :)

Will clean it up once I get it, slap on the WRC plates for evidence this weekend!

A little sucky that it's an auto but that car is no beater, looks like a proper car 👍. It looks like with a couple of minor things, a nice wash and some detailing could look very nice indeed. Keep us posted on what you do, as small as it may be.

I suppose this is goodbye to one of the most awesome cars on GTP. I often drooled over this thread and i'm sad to see it go, but i'm sure you'll feel a lot worse when you see it drive off into the sunset. You've done the right thing mate, you'll thank yourself in a few years time.

It's no STI but I reckon that coupe is pretty bloody cool in it's own right. I actually like the colour too, i've always been a sucker for maroon. The auto isn't ideal but for an A-B car it's probably for the best.

Keep us posted champ 👍

Manual swaps are easy one these cars, the hard part is finding one of these cars without rust.

Plan is to clean it up real nice, new front wheel bearings, new tires, and maybe new brake pads and just drive the hell out of it for a while. Whatever I do down the road I haven't decided. Could be a fun project car! The STI didn't really have room to work on just for fun.

I suppose this is goodbye to one of the most awesome cars on GTP.
Whoa that's a big comment there! Thanks!

So sad to hear you've sold it. I'm biased though because it's my dream car. At least you replaced it with something that still looks good.

Nice another Subie and it looks pretty dang good! Smart move going AWD for winter again as you already know. Really nice that it has the 2.5. I prefer the 2.5 over the 2.0. Also I would not beat yourself up over having an automatic. Now you can put in a remote starter for winter. :D I am actually looking for an automatic.

👍
I agree with that statement.

I don't know that much about Subarus but I take it a 2.5 RS isn't turbo'd?

I drooled over you WRX STI.. I mean I looked at this thread for couple of hours a day. Looking at all your pics. I'm sad it's gone. You still have a Subaru though. :) Any Plans for your Impreza?

The deal fell through on the RS. I pulled out actually... just didn't like the price with the amount of work that needed to be done right away. I'm still looking at other RSs, so I'll update soon.

Thing with evos si that they're just as expensive as the STi. Would a 4th gen legacy stretch the budget too much?

Well the car is officially sold this morning.

I've got my heart set on an Impreza, I've never been big on the Legacys.

Yeah, cant have 2 people with STi's on here can we? Well, still in the boxer family!

The thing with the evo is that it is a LOT easier to work on. A LOT easier. Just something as simple as plugs can take a few minutes on the EVO. On the WRX/STI you are looking at hours and a huge headache because of the h style 4 cylinder boxer engine. The engine places 2 cylinders facing each wheel well leaving no clearance. The evo has all 4 cylinders up front because its an inline 4. The WRX/STI boxer engine is truly a pain in the butt to work on. Valve covers are even worse to get to.

I was also looking into an evo but they are even more impossible to find in this area than the WRX/STI and more expensive. :dunce: Plus you can never make an evo sound as good as a WRX/STI. Again because of the boxer engine design.

Yup, changing the spark plugs on the STI was a massive pain in the arse. Even a simple compression test takes a long time on the car. But at the same time the boxer engine setup, and the sound it made, was the reason I preferred the STI over the Evo. Besides, the only Evo I would truly want is the VI.

On another note I did get a car, a 1990 Passat 16 valve, because I needed a car fast and it cost me next to nothing. I'm still looking around for something fun, though I might just stick with the VW for a little while to save up for something real good. I'm thinking I need to get a 911 I've wanted my whole life. :sly:

If you end up with a 2.5 RS with a manual or swap it, keep me in mind when you want to get rid of it. My car is starting to cost me.

Also would prefer a 2001 for the rear LSD.

This is going to be a little weird, but I'm definitely in the stage of regret. I hope the new owner is lurking in this thread and can see how important this car was to me (new owner did actually find this thread... I hope you are enjoying it!)

Me at 15, I went to the dealer to look at the car and drive it with my dad and me 10 years later on the day it was sold. Not the same car, obviously, but still.

It really is inevitable especially when it was your dream car and you had cared for it. The same happens to me from time to time with the IS, that car was absolutely perfect and I know my current car will never be as sorted out (still think it was the right decision though). Don't worry about it too much, I'm sure even better things will come with time. Also, make a thread or change the title and update us on the passat with some pics and anything you do to it. I'm sure people will be interested.

I know it was the right decision to sell, there are more important things for me to do in life than own the STI. Still a tough decision.

Interested in the Passat? Nah. Here is a picture I took of it last... it's been in the shop for a week trying to solve an issue with the car not starting up. Might be an electrical nightmare. Yes, I kept the WRC plates.

It only makes sense to fall in love with these cars. They truly are incredible.

I went through the same exact sellers remorse when I sold my 1996 Firebird Formula with V8, leather, 6 speed, T-tops and just loaded. Loved that car. Truly one of the hardest decisions I made when it comes to selling a car. The 67 Fastback was a bit painful too. But life goes on.
I must say you are so lucky to even have something similar to that at such a young age. I cant even comprehend having as awesome as an STI at 15!! That's mind blowing to me. Or were you a bit older when you purchased your first STI?

It wasn't his first car, I know he had an Audi S4 before the STi anyway.
