I ran a few laps of Silverstone in the FGT earlier today.
I did enough laps on Softs to need a tyre change & then did the same on Hards. I covered the same distance with each.
I found the Softs easier to control so that's what I'll use for the race.
I don't know what the time setting will be so I started at 1700 & then ran the Softs again at 1500 which was around 1-2 seconds faster per lap. Though that could be partly because I'd acclimatised to the car a bit more by then.

I'm nowhere near @tarkus1's lap time but if we're racing at 1300 & the time of day trend continues, I might get a bit closer. Or maybe I just need more practice. I might get chance to drive the car again tomorrow night before we start but I reckon the hour of casual races beforehand will throw any gains out of the window.

I've deleted & re-installed the game data on the M_Mallet_Jr PS3 & swapped the discs over, so I'll be on my regular machine/account after all. That should ensure the tarmac doesn't disappear on me again. It does mean that I've lost the anniversary edition cars which is sad & all but I didn't really use them anyway.

I cannot drive with the DualShock. Well to be honest, I was having problems with my wheel too. Not sure I'm brave enough to attempt an hour race with this car on a DualShock. :nervous:
A "dislike" that you're having trouble with it & thinking about not racing.
I've just "liked" the post out of friendliness & moral support.

Edit: Similar thing to Gordon, I'm just dishing out likes out of friendliness.

Further testing earlier tonight. I ran a 20 minute race with @jr4737. It was the first time I'd tried TCS (at 1). It took some getting used to but I got into the swing of it. I didn't beat my best lap from this afternoon but it could help with the tyre wear. We started early morning (in game) with time progression at 20 (if I remember correctly). Weather was at changeability 10, it didn't rain but the light seemed to change a bit. If I get a chance to practice again with TCS switched on then I'll be happy to use it for the event. I was pleased that I stayed on track for the whole race & hope to do so for the full hour tomorrow.

We haven't had much talk of teams & sponsors since we haven't had the main events running very often.
I'm asking these fellas to sponsor me for tomorrow in honour/remembrance of Team Vodka.

Wow, I'm away for a day and so much to try and catch up on.

@S_Bridge , don't worry about my lap time. I think it was just a fluke. I will almost guarantee I go the full race without touching that time. Also don't worry about running the casual races and screwing with your mojo. There will be practice time prior to the actual race.
@Blackmagic60 , I for one would like to stick it out and wait for you. I don't think an extra 20 minutes of casual races will be an issue.

We'll see Tarkus i talk to some people who were at the meeting last night some got out at 8 but some didn't leave til 930 so maybe im a lucky one and can get out earlier, its only a 15 minute drive so ill be hauling home Formula 1 style ill try to give a 15 minute heads up here on the planet

I was hoping to do an hour in the FGT now to keep getting used to the car & to help with staying on the track without crashing.
I already feel too tired. This doesn't bode well for when it's stupid late & my eyes are closing. :nervous:
I could rest or I could go ahead & run a practice anyway.
Maybe coffee & vodka would help.

P.S. @MannYhAvitZ I got your PSN message earlier. Great stuff. 👍
Check again though. :sly:

It turns out I can do a full hour without any hint of a spinout or of running wide onto the non-track (ie cheating?).
That is, when there's no traffic, when I'm not pushing too hard & when it's not 3am. :scared:

I've also learned that I probably don't have the best pit strategy but I'll stick with my first rough idea anyway.
I'm at the stage now where I want to keep going because I've become consistent enough at getting round the circuit to have spotted some places where I'm losing time (everywhere really, to a degree).

For now though, I'm happy to settle just for being fairly comfortable with the car.
In traffic, I think I'm just going to fall to pieces anyway. :nervous:

THat's how I feel. On my own I did fine but when it counts I feel I'll be lagging way behind the pack. When the dust settles we'll see Tarkus sitting in the back of the pack.

I noticed something last night when @jr4737 suggested we do a 10 lap practice race.

The room was already set for endurance (time limit) racing & it wouldn't let me change it to a set number of laps. That is why I set it to 20 minutes instead, mazda.

As we're doing casual races first, we might need to either do them with time limits or close & start a new room for the FGT. If we close, everybody should shut down their PS3 & clear the cache again before joining the new room. Just in case that really does help, as we've always suspected.

Great stuff everyone.

I've bought rain tyres for all my FGT's now. :ouch::dunce:
Oh hell yeah. I would have won if it wasn't for the tires and @PaulGrey of course. I believe he was the reason Kingdom was booted also.

Very intense but I did have a blast and no drinking either. Can't wait for the next one in a couple of weeks.

Way to go @Blackmagic60 , you proved to be truly from out of this world!:bowdown::bowdown:
