I seriously doubt this. The boards are a pretty good microcosm of the millions of fans who get into this game, and a few grouchy journalists let their views be known to the world as well. I don't think upgrading at least some of the Standard cars and making them all moddable was on a whim because PD had some idle time.To those who are ok with Standards - this is the problem. I know that only 4 or 5 people have said so, but being ok with Standards may give PD the impression that we don't mind them, and I fear that this could lessen PD's reason to upgrade them.
A bunch of us love the Standards. I do as much as anyone, and from what I recall, every one of us said they should be improved, as well as Premium-ising significant cars as they go along, like the Supra MkIV, Countachs and Veyron. Reskinning them should be a top priority because that can be knocked out fairly quickly, but I also think they should get a modeling facelift as well, not just on-the-fly tesselation. With the Countach being made Premium, I can see that the team is listening to our concerns.
Now the question is, how many can be race modded?
Well, there were two kinds of "crappy." The Nomad Diablo seemed to have a reasonably good model but heavily compressed skin. Cars like the Opel Speedster (which I believe is an unrefined GT3 model!), and Astra Touring Car have pretty bad faceting. I don't think that PD should rely on tesselating on the fly to help them, but rework those models a bit, or make them Premium. Reskin them too. I just don't see "TOTF" as the solution.if we see a quality like the Bugatti Veyron ( which was one of the best standarts in GT5 ), or even better it would be quite ok. I don't think we'll see something like the (Nomad) Diablo again, this car was really crappy ( but good to drive ).
I've been saying this a lot too. For many of us, the cockpit view is too low and far back, like we're driving Lambo style reclining way back, and this is one of the key reasons I insist that PD give us the options to adjust all driver views to suit us. I might change to cockpit view if I can fix the darn thing.i don't drive with interior view because to me it's a bit unrealistic and more difficult to drive. if you drive in a real car your viewfield is much bigger than you've with the interior view in GT5.
On the bold part, I think a few million of our friends who drive on the left or righthand side of the car might differ on this. As a Yank, I can adjust okay to driving on the right side on those rare occasions I do the inside thing, but some people struggle with changing their real life views.I was expecting there would be less overall cars and specifically less or even no standard cars. Not that I thought there would be that many receiving the full scan / premium upgrade but I was hoping some of the unnecessary model / country variations of Skylines, RX-7s, MX-5s, S2000s and such would have been removed.
I figured there would be around 500 some odd cars myself, all Premium, but I went out on a limb and predicted 1100, which of course would require a good number of Standards returning. I'm delighted, because most of the cars I race in GT5 by far are Standard, and I'm looking forward to trying them out with the new physics modeling.
I got over the shock of Standards in GT5 pretty quickly. Clearly others haven't still, so I say let them rant. Blowing off steam is therapeutic. Now if they never stop giving us a hard time about it, especially after it ships, that's a bit much.
