Steam sale thread: Summer 2017 Edition

And that's why you're supposed to wait! Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for The CrapZ? I mean Infestation: Survivor Stories? Last time it was Steam's featured daily it was something like £2.40, which would be what, $4-5 (US)?

i paid metro 25, i found it on a site, i never though another site would have put it a 1penny, i paid survival for 7$, it was at 50%. i know its a bad game but i guess some future updates will get this game a lil better..

Yeah, true, 0.01 of any currency is way too cheap, but it seems it was a pricing error anyway. Well, I hope you get some fun out of Infestation or whatever people are calling it these days, I have strong doubts that it'll ever be worth playing over DayZ or even Wasteland (the Arma 3 custom mission) though. Have you heard of The Dead Linger or Project Zomboid? They're both zombie survival games too, though PZ is quite different, being isometric and all.

I need to work out my strategy for this sale. I'm umming and ahhing over adding my budget to my Steam wallet and then refusing to use Paypal for any actual game purchases after that, so I just rely on Steam credit to prevent an overspend. But what if I don't even want to spend £30 on games? So then do I add it in £4/10 chunks? But if I do that, what's the point?

Then, do I buy games I'm less sure about as gifts so I have the option of keeping them if I want to play them, or trading them with someone else if I decide I want something else? But then there's the issue of other people not actually having anything I want to trade for so I might as well keep it anyway.

Finally, which games do I really want? I mean there are the ones I know about, but what if Tomb Raider comes up at under £7.50 (as unlikely as that is), would I buy it? Then what would that mean for the rest of my planned purchases? All I really know for sure at this point is that if I don't spend anything I'll buy Gunpoint and Monaco on the last day, assuming they aren't daily/flash/community deals at any point.

This is serious business!

To The Moon is the only game that has made me nearly cry. I didn't though because I'm a man, men don't cry! Cars, guns, women, steak. See? Man. Explosions.

Sounds like you had a case of the Feels.

Three of my four orders for metro have been canceled by best buy. Hopefully I at least get one.

My one is still in process.

ya the dead linger looks funny, but i prefered buying infestation, i didnt play yet i still have games that are in the installation process, since yesturday night -_- ill let you what i think of it !

edit : grid is fun, but i find it to be an arcade game like NFS most wanted, you turn a coner, the car loose grip and you have to handle a drift, its not easy with a wheel but after an hour i feel more comfortable playing with a wheel, just practice.

I voted for Portal 2 but I almost don't want it to win because then I "have" to buy it.

Actually... My brother bought it for PS3, so I'll see if he still has the steam code for the PC version.

So there's quite a few good games on today.

The Walking Dead is awesome, I've only played the first chapter so far though but it was great.
Surgeon Simulator 2013 is probably one of the funniest things I've ever played; note that the 'simulator' bit is pretty much a joke, of course.
Just Cause 2 is one of my favourite games of this generation, I'd (obviously) recommend it over Far Cry 3, though that is quite good too I suppose. If you ignore the story (kind of goes for both games). JC2MP is going to be incredible when it's released, you mark my words...
FTL is great too, difficult, but a lot of fun and very 'just one more go'ish.
XCOM, well it has a demo so you can see for yourself, but although it's not typically my kind of game I have had fun with it so far.
BIT.TRIP Runner 2 is a slightly more accessible take on the first game, it's very pretty and has a nice feel to it so I'd also recommend that.

And I appear to be unable to log in to my Steam account.

The game I'm curious about is Anno 2070. Does anyone here have experience with it good or bad? I'm a pretty huge Civilization fan but not sure if that would be down the same line or not?

My wallet hates Steam. :grumpy:

EDIT: I just grabbed Just Cause 2, The Walking Dead, FTL, and XCOM.

Wow, Steam's site is down for me right now. These guys know what they're doing, they are freaking printing money.

All great choices! Ah, to be young and Steam library-less again. I'm still trying to buy Surgeon Simulator. I kind of want the new BIT.TRIP game too, I've enjoyed all the others so far, even though I absolutely suck at them.

Boom! Just unlocked my level 2 Steam Sale badge. I'm not sure whether to be proud or ashamed.

Between last year fall sale and now this one, I have spent a bunch of money on many games I have not played. Well I guess I know what I am going to be doing on vacation this next week.

I've just picked up Just Cause 2, and I've just finished playing Bioshock: Infinite for 2 hours straight! It doesn't sound like long but when I'm playing games for 8 hours a day it takes something very impressive to get me hooked when I come home. I'm glad I bought it on PC too, it's so damn beautiful.

What do you get from those badges? The cards were selling for so much the other day I couldn't not get rid of the seven I already had and the subsequent five I got from Hotline Miami badges...

Edit: finally made my first purchase; £10 of Steam wallet credit (to assist me in sticking to my budget) and Surgeon Sim for £2.60. I've decided the only other instabuys are Monaco, Gunpoint and BIT.TRIP Fate with Fist Puncher, Ultratron and Trials Evolution Gold being probable buys if they get cheap enough. I have no idea what'll come up in the meantime but I can't think of anything I particularly want besides the above six, Kentucky Route Zero interests me but it's astonishingly expensive for what it is; I've heard it's barely a game at all.

I'm surprised at how many games aren't discounted at all this year, it seems like quite a few. Last year basically everything was at least 25% off, if I remember correctly.

Also savygamer.co.uk is posting loads of Amazon US deals today, Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3 are £11.50 or something right now. I'd be interested if they were £9.50 as I have a £1.50 bank charge to pay when I buy stuff from there but it might be worth checking out.

I've officially become a victim of the summer sale.

First Purchase: Tropico 4 Collector's Bundle.

IT'S SO MUCH CONTENT FOR $10.

I really want to get Fallout 3 but I'm holding out until it either pops up in daily deals/community choice/flash sale or the final day.

I subsequently discovered I need a bigger HDD ASAP as 500gb is not cutting it for me anymore

I'm playing the same game for New Vegas, which I will buy at current discount if it doesn't flash sale/community choice.

Nothing much has grabbed me so far, I've got a list on watch which is on discount until the end of the sale that I'll buy if discounted again but other then that it's just a waiting game.

I did buy Dark Souls at 75% off (the same discount as the community choice would yield for it, as it was on Flash Sale at one point). Even though I own it on PS3 I wanted a more crisp version as I love it, after some fiddling to get the port to run as it should rather than idling my 7970 and tanking, DSFix gave me exactly what I wanted.

Wanted to buy Just Cause 2. Tried the demo to make sure it would run on my PC, and I get some error code, making it impossible for me to even start the game. Don't remember the error code, but I can't be bothered spending hours to get the full game to work, so no buy.

Wanted to buy the original Bioshock. Again I try the demo to make sure it works. Can't start the game normally, as the game just says "parental control access denied". Can start the game in Windows XP compatibility mode, but then it just crashes if I change video settings. Meaning I'd have to play it at a low resolution... No buy.

PC gaming in a nutshell. :grumpy:

Sick and tired of the fact that half the games I try/buy for my PC don't work from the get go.

Do you update your drivers, to well, everything? It seems like often times when you get an error from a PC game it's because your drivers are out of date for something. Steam will automatically check you video card drivers too if you tell it too.

Yup. Everything up to date.

Do you have a DirectX10-capable graphics card? Just Cause 2 requires DX10, it has no DX9 mode.

My graphics card is a Radeon 6870. I believe that is DirectX 10 capable. Perhaps even DX11?

Considering buying Digital Combat Simulator: Black Shark and the A10 game by the same company. Love helicopters, and who doesn't love an A10? Seeing just how many buttons you have to press to just take off in the Black Shark. I can totally imagining myself spending an hour flicking buttons until I finally get results.

Does anyone have any experience with these games? How are they with just a mouse and keyboard?
