Steam sale thread: Summer 2017 Edition

Just picked up Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army (because the name was cool) and Just Cause 2. Already had Tomb Raider and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone even remotely familiar with the series.

So I got the RPG Maker because I've been eyeing it for quite a while now. I've had an idea for a gaming floating around in my head since one really boring class back in my college days. I have dialog, character, a setting and a story all wrote down in a notebook and it would be cool to see it become a game. I realize it won't be easy, but I figure I've wasted time on less lofty goals before.
That sounds pretty cool, I wish you luck. I probably couldn't be able to figure it out, as much as I'd like to.

I would say... Nay if you're expecting it to be anything like the previous Hitmans, but if you haven't played them, then yay, it's a decent enough game in its own right but it's not a true Hitman sequel. If Blood Money is also discounted I'd say get that as well, or instead perhaps; that's a proper Hitman. Not quite as good as Hitman 2 but that hasn't aged all that well.

I played all the Hitmans, and I loved Absolution. Sure, the series evolved over the years, but I think it's a true Hitman, especially at the harder difficulties. 👍 It has some pretty awesome levels.

Didn't buy anything in the Steam Sale yet, but did get Deus Ex: The Fall for iOS yesterday. It's awesome, but I so hate playing FPS on a touch screen.

To be fair I didn't try it on the hardest difficulty, but I thought Absolution had more in common with Splinter Cell: Conviction than Blood Money. Some hits were cutscenes, a few missions had no hits at all (although I skipped Codename 47, there were only two missions from previous Hitman games that featured no hits; the first Japan mission from Silent Assassin and the first mission from Contracts), there was the 'mark and execute' feature, all missions were linear with checkpointed sections... That's forgetting the Instinct thing. It's not that it was a bad game, but Blood Money was closer to what made the Hitman series unique because, as I said, Absolution borrows a lot from SC: Conviction (which I also enjoyed, by the way) and diluted the formula a step too far, in my opinion.

Fair points I guess, though most of them (linearity, checkpoints) no longer (or less) apply at higher difficulty levels. Never used the mark and execute thing BTW, that's definitely something they borrowed from SC.

That said: for anyone who likes the stealth/assassin genre, and a good little 'Thief' mixed in as well, Dishonored is also on sale. 👍

Also, I caved in and got Universe Sandbox and the Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings Enhanced Edition. :D

Yeah, Dishonoured is great. I need to pick it up again, it's been too long...

So another flash sale, another load of dreck I don't care about. Well, no, Metro: LL would be nice but that's too expensive, it's two thirds of my budget in one sitting.

System Shock 2 for £1.74 is a good deal though, I already have it (from GOG) but I haven't played it yet (shocking, I know). From what I've heard it's Bioshock meets Dead Space, I can't remember if there's a bit of Deus Ex in there too or not, but apparently it's incredible. I'll get round to playing it at some point.

A friend sent me Civ 5 on Steam...

I was like "o_O, ok?"

Oh well, free game. :D

Bought Surgeon "Simulator" 2013 aswell. :sly:

Anyone up for trading? I have a spare Bioshock Infinite card and would swap it for any other card (except Reus). PM, please. :D

New deals:

Kerbal Space Program -40%
Arma II -66%
Sanctum 2 -50% (I love Sanctum 2!)
Fallout: New Vegas (franchise sale) -75% - Very highly recommended, this game is awesome. Some people prefer Fallout 3 for the plot, but I didn't really care too much about the story and played it a bit like a survival game so I appreciated hardcore mode, the various mods (check out the Fallout Nexus) and generally tweaked gameplay.
Remember Me -40%
Hitman: Absolutely Fabulous -75%
Total War: Shogun 2 - 75%
Eador: Something or other, etc. -40%
Portal 2 -75% - Also very good
The Sims 3 -50%

Flash sales:
NBA 2thousandand13: Jay Z edition -75%
Impira (thanks Joey) -75%
Ace Combat: Shouldn't have bothered -70%
Doom 3 Big Fudging Game edition -75%

Deadlight is the community choice with a 75% discount, but I've heard this game is decidedly mediocre.

New votes: Gunpoint (please vote!) -40%, Torchlight 2 -75%, Don't Starve -40%.

Tempted by KSP, otherwise I'm hoping Gunpoint gets voted. Also peeved the Sanctum 2 DLC isn't discounted. This sale has been, by and large, the worst I've seen. So far, anyway. Loads of things aren't discounted as much as they have been previously, lots of things have no discount at all when they have had previously.

I would highly recommend Sanctum 2 if you have some friends to play with, the game is pretty difficult if you try to solo it.

Also I was really disappointed with NBA 2k13, so if you're looking for a basketball game I wouldn't recommend it. About the only thing I liked about it was the music. I've played the game quite a bit, but that's only because a couple guys at work do and we have tournaments.

**Oh and the hard to read game is Impira, it's a dungeon building game I think.

I've been soloing Sanctum 2 so far as no one I know has it, and yeah, it's tricky. I haven't gotten to a level I can't win yet though, but I imagine that'll change towards the end... I only just managed to kill the first boss before he got too close to the core - that guy really took me by surprise - and the last map I played spawned something like four armoured heavies in one round which was a little unfair, but manageable. Feats of strength, though? Forget it.

Speaking of interesting tower defence games, has anyone tried Anomaly 2? I'm interested in that as well. As far as I can tell it's a reversed TD, I guess you'd call it a tower offence game actually.

Sorry Neema! Voted for TL2. Interested in Shogun 2, but I think I'll pass because I have a backlog of strategy games with Rome TW2 on the way. Gonna check my brother's PS3 copy of Portal 2 to see if there's a steam code, if not I'll probably get it

Sorry Neema! Voted for TL2.

Gunpoint will probably still come up as a daily or flash sale, but I want to play it now now now not then then then, so I'm shaking my fist at you anyway.

So it turns out that even if all the games I really want aren't discounted any further than they are - excluding Trials Evolution Gold - I'll be able to grab them all and only be a hair over my budget. That's nice. They're also all indie games though, so if I wait even longer I'll be able to get them in a pay-what-you-want bundle.

Games I'm thinking about buying today:
Hitman Absolution
Audiosurf
Fallout New Vegas (Never played a Fallout game so I guess it is timee to try it)
and any other game you guys recommend

FYI, Sims 3 is on sale on Origin for $5.

I'm glad I waited.

Just purchased Fallout 3 GOTY, Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition and Portal 2 all for less than $20.

Now eyeing remember me.

Someone on my friend list send me this. Pure awesomeness.

Any reason why beyond that? Because as of right now, it's the best basketball game out there.

Not as great as NBA2K10-11 (12 lacked a lot), but it's more than passable for a basketball game.

It just feels clunky to me and the controls are kind of wonky too. I use a 360 controller for it but I still can't seem hit shots like I feel I should. Also I was really impressed with the graphics of the game, I know graphics aren't everything but NBA 2k13 just comes across as really lacking.

I just wasn't impressed with the game in the way past 2k title have done.

So I got Fallout New Vegas, Hitman Absolution (It also comes with the Sniper Challenge), Tomb Raider, Audiosurf, and Test Drive Unlimited 2 all for under $30 today. I feel accomplished even though I'm probably going to spend even more later this week.

YES, thank you Valve, they finally put Fallout series on sale, just pucked up Fallout 3: GOTY and Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition !

Sorry Neema! Voted for TL2.

Looks like you got your wish then, 51% to TL2, 25% to Gunpoint, 24% to a game that's already had a particularly mediocre discount. A bleedin' travesty. I recommend: Everyone try the Gunpoint demo then hang your heads in shame. Then say five Hail Marys.

Are you shooting with the stick or the buttons, and paying attention to the light beneath your player?

The game's shooting does have a bit of an annoying learning curve, but it's not that bad. It definitely gives the game a more realistic feel to each player than some of the Live titles that played like straight-up arcade games where shots were pretty easy to hit.

New flash sales:

ShootMania Storm -40%
Spec Ops: The Line -50%
Poker Night 2 -33%
The Swapper -25%

Community choice winner:
Torchlight 2 -75% *spit*

New choices:
Mediocre Zombie Game 2: Riptide -50%
Left 4 Dead 2 -75%
Sub-shovelware swill made by liars, conmen, hackers and thieves that doesn't deserve to win the vote but probably will because it's the cheaper than Dead Island Riptide and everyone has L4D2 already -75%

Kerbal Space Program at 40% off is the only purchase you need to make during this sale. $13.79 for KSP is such a steal it should be illegal - it's a giant explodey sometimes-flying bomb simulator that thinks it's a rocket builder. With little green oblong-headed men. Need I say more?

I'm currently looking for fun games I can play in my PC just to relax and have a break from driving with the G27. I saw GRID is really cheap right now and was wondering how good it actually is and it is fun to play with a keyboard. What do you guys think? Also, what other driving games are cheap at the moment and can be enjoyed just sitting down and playing with the keyboard??? EDIT: Also considering Dirt 3 and I'm not sure if Dirt Showdown as well: are they any good fun? Not really looking for realism right now.

Thanks in advance for the help 👍

To be honest there aren't many good driving games that are playable with a keyboard, but I think Driver: San Francisco is quite cheap at the moment. Problem is, if it isn't on the front page, I'd advise against buying it until the very last day of the sale because if you were to go and buy Driver: SF now at -35%, there's a risk that at some point it'll be even cheaper and you will have wasted money. Keep an eye out for Driver: SF though because it's really, really great. I'd also recommend you get a 360 controller for when you want to play driving games without your wheel because that massively expands the list of games I'd recommend. Also Burnout Paradise probably plays quite well with a keyboard, I have no idea though.

As for Grid with a keyboard, a quick google suggests you probably shouldn't bother.
