Steam sale thread: Summer 2017 Edition

To be honest there aren't many good driving games that are playable with a keyboard, but I think Driver: San Francisco is quite cheap at the moment. Problem is, if it isn't on the front page, I'd advise against buying it until the very last day of the sale because if you were to go and buy Driver: SF now at -35%, there's a risk that at some point it'll be even cheaper and you will have wasted money. Keep an eye out for Driver: SF though because it's really, really great. I'd also recommend you get a 360 controller for when you want to play driving games without your wheel because that massively expands the list of games I'd recommend. Also Burnout Paradise probably plays quite well with a keyboard, I have no idea though.

As for Grid with a keyboard, a quick google suggests you probably shouldn't bother.

Burnout is actually pretty good with just keyboard. I've put a bit of time using keyboard & it isn't really difficult at all to get the feel of the car. However GRID is different and might be more enjoyable with a gamepad or wheel. I dunno about Driver: SF.

Really? Hm alright I'll get that then to see what the hype is about.

If you ever played the Uncharted series, TR will bear a resemblance to Uncharted's mechanics.

Completed To The Moon and Thomas Was Alone, 2 great little games well worth the (small amount) of money.

Yesterday I bought Fallout New Vegas, new deals will be up in an hour.

I'm sure everyone already has Portal 2 but if you don't I highly recommend it.

Driver SF is a great game (I have PS3 version), good story and side missions and the way you can drift the cars through the city streets using a controller never fails to put a smile on your face.

I didn't, so I bought it. :D

Really enjoying it, apart from that FPSs give me motion sickness so I can only play for twenty minutes at a time. :(

Of the new deals, I'm getting Organ Trail and probably Natural Selection 2. If you like Minecraft then Terraria is a pretty decent alternative, Killing Floor is pretty good too and is one of those games everyone has. Dishonoured and Max Payne 3 are both well worth it (I haven't tried the multiplayer in the latter though). I hear good things about Dust, but it (and all the other deals) aren't really my cup of tea. Oh, Mirror's Edge is great too, and KOTOR 2 has a pretty comprehensive mod which restores a lot of cut content and is apparently vastly improved by it. I have yet to play my copy, of course.

Not a ton jumping out at me, lots of games that would be nice to have but I don't really "need" to have. Think I'll probably pass on this round of deals, might grab Terraria or Natural Selection but I really just think they're both games I'll buy but never play, and that's what the winter sale is for.

I feel kinda the same way. I bought most of the games I was interested in last summer sale, and not enough awesome games have come out since last year. I've only bought CS:GO, Skyrim: Dragonborn and L4D2 so far. I don't think I'll be buying anything else this year.

I hope Monaco becomes a flash sale. I was really hoping people would vote for it.

Me too, but it was never going to win; it was the most expensive and least interesting-looking (I mean graphically) game of the three. I'm sure it will come back as a daily or flash sale and when it does I'm going to check the developer's site, if they have it similarly discounted I'll buy it from them so they get a bigger cut from my purchase. Same with Gunpoint.

I just picked up Organ Trail and Natural Selection 2 for a total of just under £6, I'm considering the Knife of Dunwall DLC for Dishonoured but I still haven't actually finished the story yet. I also just redeemed my Takedown: Red Sabre pre-alpha code and I'm now trying out the KSP demo. PC gaming!

Edit: I think I'll leave KSP for a time when I can be bothered to learn how to play something. For now I'll wait for Takedown to finish downloading and try that.

Also I've just bought Knife of Dunwall, so there's that. I'm up to four purchases in five days, rather than the usual four purchases per day.

Edit some more: I love Organ Trail! It's worth 99p for things like this alone:

Dishonoured: A bit like what would happen if Bioshock met Deus Ex and occasionally Hitman. I like it, but haven't finished it yet because I forget to play it.

Max Payne 3: Egregious over-use of weird interference effects to emulate Max's perpetual hangover, egregious over-use of cutscenes instead of actually letting you play, but lots of awesome gunplay to make you feel like the baddest of asses. Also some replay value in the arcade mode, but I can't comment on the multiplayer. It's also very pretty, I enjoyed the writing ("I now had a hole in my second favourite drinking arm" will stay with me for a while) and, yeah, it's interesting.

First purchase of this summer sale: Deus Ex: Human Revolution + all its DLC.

Good choice, I love that game. General note to people: Deus Ex: GOTY is 50% off at the moment, weirdly that means it's more expensive than Human Resources but it's one of those games, you know, like Doom. Genre defining, still unsurpassed, a bit ropey-looking but still a great game. There are mods to make it a bit prettier too.

Almost finished the new Tomb Raider. 90% completion at the moment. Great game and I think a rather classic one too. Loved it so far. :)

New flash deals:

Don't Starve -40%
Galactic Civilisations II -75%
3D Mark 11 -66%
Carrier Command: Gaia Mission -75%

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 won the vote, new options are Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider and Skyrim Legendary Edition. Three games that have already been daily deals.

Just came back to confirm Neema_t's opinion on GRID. I don't think many others are looking forward to an old game like this, but if anyone reading this is considering buying it do yourself a favour: don't. Against Neema's judgement I bought it and it's the single thing I regret doing the most this month. What a steaming pile of 🤬. It's not a fun game by any means, just one of those arcade racers that pretend they're sims and take themselves too seriously without the physics or the profile to match. Avoid at all costs, you're better of spending those $3 on a cup of coffee.

Well at least you didn't buy it at full price I guess. Were you driving it with your keyboard or did you try it with a wheel as well? I bought it a while back for about £4 (for a currency reference, it's currently £2.49 for us) when they were doing a charity thing, i.e. buy this game and a cut of the sale goes to charity (as far as I'm aware it's the only time I've seen such a thing on Steam). It's really not great, no, but I didn't hate it. Then again I did give up on it quite quickly. Shift is better, but still not amazing. There is a definite gap in the market for a competent GT/Forza-like racing game on PC, maybe Assetto Corsa or Project CARS will turn out to be that game.

Yeah, it tries too hard but it's still arcade, and I think that alone makes me avoid GRID 2. I wish I could trade GRID off, but I was really curious of the game's physics & AI.

NFS Shift (not to be confused with S2U) is a fun game in vanilla form an funner with some mods installed.

Yawn. Sleeping Dogs and Mark of the Ninja are the only two things I consider worthwhile today, though I've heard good things about Orcs Must Die 2 so I might look into that. It seems similar to Sanctum, though (well OMD was) because you place traps and control a character to kill stuff.

Serious Sam 3 is pretty good for an old school shooter style thing, it's got co-op too and I imagine a vs mode as well.

I'm interested in Amnesia but there's something about paying to have the privilege of soiling myself that makes me apprehensive.

I know plenty of people who have it but have never actually launched it for that reason, I am one of those people. I WILL do it some day, just not soon.

I've played it on a friend's PC before, it's one of the few games that is truly scary outside of the initial jump when the zombie/demon attacks you.

I bought Shift 2 Unleashed the other day, and am enjoying it quite well.

Hopefully I'll get my wheel setup on PC soon so I can download some mods to make it a lot better in the wheel department!

YES! I can finally get 75% off Aliens: Colonial Marines!

Said no one in the history of mankind.

Also:
F1 2012 -75% (I suspect these discounts will change as F1 2012 as been 66% off the entire time)
Mars: War Logs -50%
Dragon Age: Origins -70%

Civilisation V won the vote, new options are Forge which I've got but not played, Surgeon Sim which I've got and is pretty good (and will win, mark my words) and Primordia, which I've also got but not played, but really want to get around to doing so as it's a WadJet Eye game and they publish some really great point and clicks; see Gemini Rue and Resonance.

I really need to stop working and go to bed.
